Journalism and sexism in the games industry
Start of old thread End of old thread Like the death scene in a bad stage play... it just goes on and on Edit: Last words in the previous discussion by ChilloutMan: --- Who's being censored, and by whom? Noone yet - but that guy wanted Rockstar to change their product because of his opinion/political agenda - it is censorship if it goes through and Bruce promoting censoring game content on moraly questionable actions

US tortures
Just a thought experiment inspired by the "living in a world without the US" bit... that would mean North America being part of the UK the same way as Northern Ireland, QE2's face would be on the dollar bills and everyone playing bad to mediocre football (since nobodys around to call it "soccer" anymore).

SW: The Old Republic - Episode VII (J.J. Strikes Back)
Nope, no legacy xp. Just doing the flashpoints multiple times. My assassin tank is now on Yavin and have to chose between an ops or a solo mode. I picked the "I'll decide later" option. My powertech tank is not far behind, almost done with Rishi and level 59 (that one does have the legacy exp boost). Started on pubside too, just wanted my smuggler to finish Ilum first. Skipped Makeb. Both Ilum and Makeb are mindnumbingly boring when you've done them a few times The start on Rishi was fun. When facing the Rodian gunslinger, in true Han Solo style, one of your dialogue options is simply "Shoot First!". Made me laugh. Greedo Gorro never saw it coming

To the best of my knowledge, the US uses 110v 60hz. the rest of the world 220v 50hz. The power outlets in the walls have different shapes and forms in various countries though.

Shadow of Revan, the lame ending for Revan (thoughts and opinions) SPOILERS
First off, I'm no Revan fan. Always hated him since he forced my scoundrel to change class to Jedi in Kotor1 (yes, I'm petty like that). Thoughts... the inclusion of anything lorewise from the first two games never made sense in the mmo. Especially not when the Imperial and Republic sides have mutually exclusive versions of what happens (defeat/kill him versus free him and bring him on your side). Lacking a Kotor3, Revan and the entire story arc should have died with Kotor2 never to be touched again in any shape and form, as it could only ever end in weird stuff mixed with mediocrity. No pre-written story line can compare to the one you experience playing your own characters.

SW: The Old Republic - Episode VII (J.J. Strikes Back)
Not sure exactly how, but I suppose a mix of rest xp, 3 hour xp boosts on cooldown, doing the flashpoints (soloed manaan and rakata leading up to it, the two Rishi ones with guildies in a group) and the side missions(everything except the one with the meat tree). Dinged in at 60 when getting the last reward telling me to go to Yavin. I'll double check when i get home, as it's possible I also had the legacy xp boosts from when I started that toon 2 years ago. Edit: The legacy xp adds 30% xp on top of everything else for most activities if maxed out.

I didn't get free shipping, but I saved the GST (VAT/Sales Tax) a few years ago when i bought my gfx card that. An Australian peculiarity, they don't bother with that particular tax at customs when buying stuff less than $1000. The card was around $998 or so (the two currences were around 1:1 at the time) I would love to upgrade the board/cpu/memory part of my pc now, but... where are the next generation of motherboards??? Seriously, those old intel chipset things with sata2 and usb2 is a joke.

Xmas and NY Plans?
I'll fly to Denmark and spend the week there with my family. That will probably be the first time in a decade that I spend Christmas with family. I don't really care about Christmas, over commercialised, over hyped celebration of market economy, but I look forward to seeing my family. Previous Christmasses usually consisted of getting together with friends, collegues, getting drunk, getting... things you sometimes do when meeting new people and everyone is a bit drunk... playing games (Chinese games of chance, card games, board games, *not* videogames).

SW: The Old Republic - Episode VII (J.J. Strikes Back)
I saw the damage nerf to a limited degree, doing some 55 HM FP's (the 2 CZ ones). Dps friends who normally dont have a problem managed to have the droid in the water enraging. Healing has also been notably nerfed (just a guess based on "feel" by around 30% at least). Oh, and mobs? Those mobs guarding the terminals towards the end of Meltdown killed my poor tank in their *opening* salvo Yeah, just jumping in doesn't work anymore, better get your defensive measures up first, then throw accuracy and damage debuffs on them as first order of the day, then burn them down. It is actually fun not just wading through them (that was my old powertech tank at level 55 and in optimised 180 and dread forged) gear I completed Rishi on my assassin tank and made my first level 60 with that one. Trying to decide if I should do Yavin next, level up my powertech tank next or also push a republic character through the process (got a guardian tank and a dps scoundrel as candidates there, as they are the only ones being close to finish makeb, i like to take those things "chronologically").

Dragon Age: Inquisition
Actually, since Bioware started using their "metrics" to design games, you are sometimes left with a feeling that they try too hard. Not a single group, but trying to please all gamer groups (action game fans, social issues fans, roleplaying fans, multiplayer fans, single player fans etc.) that they have reached a point of being decent at most things but no longer master of anything? Never underestimate name recognition when measuring sales figures, it's not always the best laundry powder that sells the most.

Dragon Age: Inquisition
Bruce... I think the issue was with your interpretation. I've bold faced the most common (in my little world) use of the word propaganda. I.e. usually to promote an idea (or "agenda"), not to destroy governments. But this is really a discussion for another thread Edit to add: From the same link, the origin of the word (supporting the idea that its about spreading a message): C18: from Italian, use of propāgandā in the New Latin title Sacra Congregatio de Propaganda Fide Sacred Congregation for Propagating the Faith

Dragon Age: Inquisition
I havent bought the game yet(waiting for bargain bin deals), but pretty much agree with that sentiment. I liked how it was handled FO:NV. I.e. a non issue, it simply "was" and nobody seemed surprised or awkward because of it. I generally prefer games to be games and not the tooting horn for various lobby groups. Just sayin'. Reality is bad enough sometimes, games are supposed to be fun and remove you temporarily from reality (if it does its job well) Meh, enough side tracking. Some day I'll probably get the game and discuss specifics (although i suspect its fate will be the same as Witcher II)

SW: The Old Republic - Episode VII (J.J. Strikes Back)
So, 3.0 hit the street. Only tried it for a handful hours and... Was completely underwhelmed. Technical issues I expected, so my expectations were well "managed" in that regard. No biggie, the next 20 hotfixes released the next 10 days will probably address the worst of the perfomance, stability etc. stuff. Story has been unengaging so far. Didn't really expect anything extraordinary when they had to fall back on the Revan name. Worst part is the feeling of having wasted the last year gearing up though. Effecively bombed back to the stone age and I just can't find the motivation to do it all over again. Not because I don't like progress and gearing up would feel like improvement, but because whoever genius designed the expansion got the idea that you have to do it all over to get back to were you were a few days ago. It's not good psychology. Nevermind the new skill and utility system whose main purpose seems to make the choice of class irrelevant as the goal now seems to be to make the all "play and feel" the same. There are pretty much 3 advanced classes now, dps, tank and healer. Only good thing I can say about 3.0 at the moment is, I had a blast with the 12x xp boost, just playing class stories for a few weeks.

Star Wars Episode 7 Thread
Just when you thought a Star Wars movie couldn't get any worse than with Lucas in full creative control, they show lightsabers that makes you laugh for all the wrong reasons. I think my interest died just there and then >_

Nextgen Kotor 2 Graphics
It is indeed impressive. Not just the technical side of things, but that people care enough about what is no longer a new game to put that kind of effort into it. Hope to see it as a released mod in all ist beauty some day

The culture of Rape, Bill Cosby Story
Which is probably one reason the law is the way it is. First impressions are always hard to shake off and an accusation is a "first Impression". It sticks in peoples minds and the thought that maybe there is something about it, can be almost impossible to get rid of. Even when proven 100% innocent by hard evidence, the ghost of the thought still lingers in peoples minds. Which is one reason false accusations of things like rape, child molestation etc. ought to be punished to the same degree as the crime the victims of the accusations were accused of (because a false accusation can ruin a life as effectively as the actual crime). That being said, there are a number of creepy people who have gotten away with too much for too Long, protected by their status and not least their connections. Australia had a case recently where a once popular actor turned out to be another "Jimmy Saville" abusing underage female cast members for years, whatshisname the Director hiding somewhere in Switzerland or whatever hidey hole, Hands in the air those who think Woody Allen didn't go where no man should go... etc.

What you did today
I'm living in the dark... literally. I finally got my own roof over my head in a nice sizeable townhouse in the outskirts of Berlin (technically the state of Brandenburg) and it's all good. Except the place had no lamps, no curtain and no kitchen. Guess what 3 items are Gorth's Shopping lists (or Christmas wishlists for that matter)? I also don't have internet at home, so I'm improvising and using my mobile phone as a wifi hotspot. Bye bye monthly highspeed data allowance. Of course, my brilliant plans to go shopping in the next few weeks (Ikea and Bauhaus, here I come!) didn't survive the first Encounter with a new project either, so flying to Paris next week and staying there for a few weeks. The worst part was having to cancel the appointment with the Telekom technician who were to come and enable my internet connection (after almost a full month of waiting time). Next available appointment is mid December >_ Ah well, some day... The stories I could tell about paperwork, forms, customs, address registration, medical insurance, tax id no... welcome to Europe

A Renaissance of 4X Fantasy RPGs
There seems to be some misconceptions about ship to ship combat in MoO2 here... Attacker doesn't go first. Unless you leave all settings on default that is, but who does that??? "Ship Initiative" means ships attack in initiative order. Smaller, faster and higher tech ships move first, slow, lumbering low tech behemoths last. "Auto" button turns on AI for both player and opponent. 'z' key Speeds up auto combat. I.e. pretty close to instant resolve combat if you dont want to micromanage your fleet in this encounter.

Dragon Age: Inquisition
Poor Gromnir I think I stay by my original "Position", waiting for some months and see where the game is headed, patch, UI, DLC and expansion wise.

Dragon Age: Inquisition
I think I'm going to sit on the fence for this one for a least 2-3 months. Too much DRM, too little PC Support and apparently all of Biowares weaknesses and none of their strengths present in the game in its current state. Maybe it's something like NWN2 where the expansions are better than the original campaign...

Rate your 2014 games here!
I've only played it a few times. The mechanics seems Ok, but the User Interface is a step down. Too cluttered and not independently scalable. The latter is a big issue for me on large resolutions, as the microscopic text and tooltips are completely unreadable. So "user friendly"?... not really I might dig around a bit more and see if there are some settings somewhere I have overlooked. At the Moment, its unplayable for me.
