  1. Heh, I don't think there's a card on the market today that can play newer games at 1600x1200 with 8xAA/8xAF (not that you'd even really need that much AA at that res). Even the Ultra and XTPE would choke to death on those. But I don't think you'll regret your purchase. 4xAA/8xAF at 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 looks pretty sweet in most games, and the GTO should probably be able to handle that.
  2. At those settings you should be fine, the GTO is a pretty powerful card at stock. And if you unlock the extra pipes you'll basically have a full fledged GT. I think Kotor1 was poorly optimized for PC (maybe because it was a console port ). D3, HL2, NFSU2 and Tribes:V all run better for me than it does at similar settings, and I think others with top of the line PCs have reported that as well. It's certainly playable, but kinda disappointing... Hopefully K2 will be coded better *crosses fingers*
  3. I can run it pretty smooth with 4xAA/16xAF @1280x960 (though I usually don't cause that res doesn't fit my LCD so well) and I have an Intel P4 3.2GHz/ 1GB DDR-400 RAM/ 6800GT set up. Even so though I still get noticable fps drops when there are lots of particle effects going on, and in some of the larger outdoor areas.
  4. I know it's probably waaay too late to be bringing something like this up, but I'm kinda curious as to how well KotOR2 is expected to run on todays top of the line hardware. I know it's using the same engine as K1 but have any new optimizations been implemented for better performance? I ask because on my pc (P4 3.2GHz w/HT, 1GB DDR400, 6800GT) I notice a surprisingly frequent number sub 30 fps drops in outdoor areas using maxed settings with 4xAA/8xAF in K1 (especially on Taris)... which I find a little strange seeing as they don't occur nearly as often in D3, HL2 or even Far Cry, all of which seem like more graphically intense games. It doesn't run poorly, I mean it's certainly playable and it never dips below the 20s but it didn't run as smoothly as I'd expected. I'm hoping it can just be chalked up to inefficient coding in K1 since it was a console port, but since K2 will be as well I'm kinda curious if it will run any better? Thx
  5. Prolly Guardian/Weapon Master (f-jump was my fav feat in the first game). Although Sentinel/Weapon Master might make a good combo too... Sentinel was kinda gimpy the first time around, but with skills being more important now, and the ability to cross jedi classes, Sentinels might finally get a chance to shine. I'm thinking good skills, and immunities + uber melee power = headache for the baddies :D .

  7. that revan & crew pic/caption in your sig is awesome!
  8. (w00t) I hadn't heard about that! Finally a reason to have more than 10 INT :D
  9. I voted 4... for no other reason than the fancy saber twirls Revan does in the cutscenes...
  10. That's true. But I think it was the intent of Bioware or LA to make players recognize Revan as "untouchable". <{POST_SNAPBACK}> See, as far as storyline continuity goes, I always got the impression that Revan was comparable to say Mace Windu in the power spectrum. One of the best of the best, legendary even, but not completely untouchable, as say a prime Vader or Exar Kun. That little rodian dude in the game rather bluntly states that Revan, pre-mindwipe, was not as strong as Exar. I still think Revan was meant to be one of the more historic figures of the SW universe, but not quite on the same level as Palps/Vader/Exar/Markos Ragnos etc. in terms of raw power.
  11. ... But he wasn't wrong... both official endings have Revan beating Malak and both endings have this same plot element in them. In order for the game and the storyline to be complete Revan (possibly with his crew) has to go through Malak's troops and apprentices.
  12. Speaking of storyline based fights, lets not forget Revan's defeat of Darth Bandon... I know, I know, from a game mechanics standpoint Bandon was crap, but mechanics aren't the issue here. According to his official LucasArts Bio, "...Darth Bandon has proven himself to be an excellent choice (as Malaks apprentice). Many Jedi have fallen beneath the blade of his lightsaber, and he has yet to meet his equal in combat. In time, Bandon may even challenge Malak for the mantle of Dark Lord" As an unavoidable part of the storyline Revan kills Bandon, and (despite his craptacular showing in his little ambush) he's supposed to be someone of great power and skill in the story. Just food for thought.
  13. Unless... Revan dies and the new PC absorbs Revan's spirit and becomes uber!!! *dun, dun, dun*
  14. I agree with GoA! Revan was supposed to be legendary. But if the protagonist in this game is stronger than him/her and the next one is even stronger that'd make Revan just another Jedi.
