You can relax. The genre is called cRPG for a reason. Obsidian guys are not stupid, they've seen the track record. There was that infamous situation with BG1 and PS1 and after that failiure (but leaked version is still floating around) consecutive IE titles stayed on their home ground. Same deal with AE titles. There was a recent attempt to bring Witcher 1 to consoles (which could've worked in retrospect since Witcher was not as hardcore as NWN) but still ended in failiure.

what to do few question
Plutone00 replied to okkoko's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
When it's done. No release date yet, obviously. Almost every RPG nowadays has multiple female companions. So most likely, yes. -
Could be a good thing since generally the only class with potential use outside of combat is rogue. But the problem is the more abilities you give to ranger and rogure, the more useless other classes will be. So if I were to implement this idea of yours, I would give each class an ability outside of combat : paladin would receive divinations, wizard would read the stars etc

And that's exactly the problem with modern games and movies, as I've said before. All the fights are regular monster fights even if a bit tough and they can't make you scared. Writers nowadays have to rely on the element of suprise. They may make you a bit startled the first time, but this is not fear. Afterwards you will be ready for it and won't even flinch. The very definition of undead is they are already dead so you can't kill them. Let's say that your quest is to cleanse a tomb full of spirits. That would require to renew the seal deep inside. You can't hurt spirits themselves, but they can hurt you. You journey to the tomb and as soon as you step inside you feel unwelcome. You have to avoid all the spirits trying to hurt you and cursing at you with horrible sounds all the while trying to desperately reach the seal as soon as possible. It could be argued that the key factor here is quick decision making, not fear. But nothing really scares people of the information era.

Fable 3 had that system. Your weapon stats changed depending on how and how much you used it. Weapon's look also reflected it's use and it became nasty if you used it for evil. I remember Obisidian using similar system with name crystal in KotOR 2, but I doubt it would be implemented in PoE. Would be nice though.

playing "evil"
Plutone00 replied to Michael_Galt's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
You've got the right general idea, but in the end it's still obvious good vs evil choice. The problem with this kind of games is they present a simple problem and a simple solution: if you want to good do so-and-so, but if you want to be evil do something else. And you know (you may not be sure the fist playthrough, but you still kinda know) that no matter what path you choose, you are gonna succeed in the end. So most people just follow the good path, because it's kinda obvious and it's clear that everybody will like protagonist for following it. I don't think the paths should be so obvious. The devs can still leave the choice on the table, but they shouldn't make the "right" path so clear. There have to be more risks involved, there shouldn't be a gurantee in success of either path. If you stubbornly stick to chivalrous ways, your path should not be easy. You're gonna make sacrifices along the way and no matter what there is not going to be 100% approval. You may end losing some people close to you and the rest branding you a hypocrite. All you are left with in the end is your chivalry and happy ending is not guranteed. The same with the evil path. You can't just betray your companions and there comes a crown waiting on a plate; all that's left is to put it on and you are new Prince of Darkness. The pursuit of power (does not even have to be dark power) will make you lots of enemies. Not just the "good guys" but also your ruthless competitors for the same power. And they are not all sitting in the same room or in same castle waiting to be defeated by you. They are all out of your reach scheming against you and there is nothing you can do about it. You can't go to the "good guys" for help either, because they are also on the hunt for you. So you have to play smart, slowly building your own power and faction while avoiding your numerous enemies, but you have to keep in mind that if you take too long, the prize will go to someone else. There is no 100% gurantee here either. -
Would be nice to have this option. I remeber making Mantides embrace faith of Shar in MoW and turning Jaesa to the darkside in TOR. They did not just change the way they speak, they almost became different characters altogether with new look and abilities.

This is not a relevant problem anymore. Modern Macs support Windows OS. Just install it and play windows version of KotOR 2. Official guide http://store.apple.com/us/browse/guide/windows

From progress reports at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/wasteland-2 obviously. If you do not believe them, their "brainwashing compaign" clearly failed, or did it?... I sincerly doubt that, but It's all a matter of taste. I'll not argue. Once again a matter of taste. Simplifications had to be made in accordance with tight budget and in order to make game accessible to new fans. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Seriously, if you've got something constructive to say (and you don't from what I've seen so far) head on over to http://wasteland.inxile-entertainment.com/forum/index.php (unless you've already been banned there for trolling) and voice your very valuable opinion to the devs. Ranting here is pointless.

Strengths and flaws?
Plutone00 replied to amycus89's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I'm all for it. But the story should make those options at character creation to actually mean something aside from just selecting a bonus from a list. -
Oh, boy... I does not. It just makes it not suitable for your particular tastes. The fans of the original Wasteland and old-school Fallouts that I mentioned in my previous post which you apparently did not read... First of all, there was no reception yet. The game is still in development. Secondly, the purpose of the beta is precisely to collect feedback. So head on over to http://wasteland.inxile-entertainment.com/forum/index.php if you have something constructive to say to the devs instead of ranting at me. I do not deny that some backers may have been dissapointed, because they were expecting isometric New Vegas, but that's the way it is with kickstarter-type projects: you take a leap of faith and it does not always pay off the way you expected. Nice game, I agree. Spent it on different aspects of the game, obviously. Taken from http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/wasteland-2 sounds like a lot of money, but in normal AAA video game development it is less than 7% of what a big publisher spends to make a game. The last game you bought probably had a game development budget of something closer to $15,000,000. Wasteland 2 will have a team of programmers, character artists, environmental artists, animators, writers, designers, sound designers, musicians, and level designers working for 12-18 months. Where did I say anything about not having faith in Obsidian? Please, read messages carefully before posting replies. They have not yet profited anything. All donations have gone to fund their projects.

Strengths and flaws?
Plutone00 replied to amycus89's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
True, but it would be nice to see a story or some purpose behind it. Doesn't even need to be anything major. Let some event happen and have character start hating undead or whoever, recieving a bonus to attack against them as oposed to simply choosing abilities at level-up screen. -
There are plenty of mmo RPGs out there. PoE is running on a tight budget and dedicating resourses to multiplayer will damage the overall quality of other game aspects. So no, thanks. Can't be done. Once again, tight budget. There are only 2 cities and 1 stronghold in the game and invading small settlements wouldn't make much sense. But that does not mean there won't any stronghold battles at all. So no, thanks. There are no equipment restrictions in the game. If devs were to give characters acess to all class abilities as well, why have classes in the first place? So no, thanks. Have nothing against epic music, but yet again PoE is running on a tight budget and I think the money is better spent elsewhere. So no, thanks. I believe (or I'd like to) that's already in the game. Yes, please. PoE is not an open world game.Making it such would mean lots of restrictions have to be put on story and choice-and-consequence system. So no, thanks. I'm all for it. Yes, please. Jeez, I hope not! I'd rather devs concentrate on true expansion pack. So no, thanks. Didn't really get the meaning here. So no, thanks.

IMHO. It's more of a case people being stubborn and refusing to change their gaming habits. Once you've played nothing but console games for year, returnig to K&M is uncomfortable. Same thing if you've been a PC gamer all your life. That being said, some games like Alpha Protocol (which was not a port) are actually more comfortable with controller. Your fingers are quicker to react in certain situations, because of the button layout. But that's all there is to it. RTSs and CRPGs are just not meant for controllers. And it's coming from someone who actually tried to play Starcraft on real N64. You will able to manage CRPGs (due to pause-and-play), but controller will remain a handicap.

I'll assume we're talking D&D here. If there is no option for re-roll, I'll take the point buy. Otherwise I'll roll and re-roll until I get the stats I want.

Wasteland 2 is aimed at specific audience. While some aspects of it may look obsolete by modern standarts, it does not make it a bad game. It is paying homage to original Wasteland (and to old-school Fallouts by assosiaton), which I'm sure is appreciated by fans of the classic.

playing "evil"
Plutone00 replied to Michael_Galt's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Not countimg japanese stuff I mentioned before, Obisidian is actually good at that sort of thing. I would say evil paths in KotOR 2 and New Vegas were plenty sociopatihc and selfish. -
playing "evil"
Plutone00 replied to Michael_Galt's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
It's a whole branch story arc, one of the 3. Your protagonist's persona changes depending on your choices (kinda like DA2 and AP) and if you have enough "jerk points" by a certain point, you'll have an option to betray your companions and join "bad guys". Afterwords you are going to lead an army and battle your former companions. You can spare them or literally slagther them all. Long story short, there are more options after that and if you take completely "evil" approach, you are going to be dictator "president for life type" of the unified empire. But you do not absolutely have to if you do not want to. There are total 40 possible endings, accounting for all possibilities. Growlanser 4 is one of the best at choice-and-consequence type games. Pity western developers do not pay much attention to japanese stuff. -
http://eternity.obsidian.net/backer/tiers 50$ - Boxed copy (+extra for shipping) Once you've selected all rewards you want, you'd be taken to your payapal page to finalise the pledge. If it does not work, you'll have to contact backer support. Keep in mind that they are currently on holiday break and you may not recieve a reply for a while.

Well, there are some japanese RPGs like Growlancer 4 where you can do exactly that.
