  1. People like you don't deserve internet access. Or oxygen. Yeah, I was kinda thinking that this guy spends most of his free time slobbing his daddy's knob in a closet somewhere rather than contaminating his mind with independant thought. I don't like Obama but these claims are spurious.
  2. Just thought of a new toy for your kitchen...a dehydrator. You can make various types of 'jerky' as well as dry vegetables...most notably, I noticed that you like habaneros. I've been drying and grinding them for a bit lately as I've found a good source/price. I'm up to a little over a kilo of dried ground spice. A most excellent seasoning.
  3. Oh hai. I'm here to collect my winnings. God you suck! I've been watching and expecting this moment. Just waiting to see if Hillary pulls something out of her ... this. I'll be contacting you very soon about payment after tomorrow's announcement. Cash, Visa or PP. Your choice. Once again in case you missed it the first time...God you suck! My only consolation now is hoping to see Obama get beat like a baby seal in the November election! Still hope to buy you a beer or few at the convention though. We can talk trash about each other while we witness the backroom deals of the Dems as they eat their dead and direct Denver's new toy on the crowd. I want to take some readings and would enjoy your company nearby when the millimeter wave weapon fires . Dr Taks...a gold 'wedding ring' wired to the 'collector' ( don't remember the term ) of an SCR powering a DC growler...( currect to ground ) Congrats BTW.
  4. I'm not a big fan of cats but I see that you have two options...shoot him out of the tree with a 12 gauge or sprinkle some of his favorite cat-food across a floor fan and fan it his way. Either way it's a win, win situation  . BTW - I have a cat that is approaching 22 years old. If he pisses on my stuff again, he won't see 23! I'm tired of having blood work done on this cat and they draw fossilized dirt instead of drawing blood.
  5. I live in a single story home mostly made of brick. Sadly, I have few firearms ( a .32 acp, a single shot 20 gauge shotgun, a single shot .22 and a lever action ww2 vintage 308. I should work on this ). However...I do store a large quantity of varied chemicals and varied gases on site ( enough to void my homeowners' insurance if this were known ). Keep in mind that I tend to hoard stuff and I had at one time had an explosives handlers licence issued by the BATF. Knowledge is a wonderful thing! . I have hydrofloric acid, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid and on site as well as gaseous chlorin ( a novelty that I ran across ) and have the ability to pump it into my sprinkler system. I also have a large amount of oxygen and acetylene on site. Blasting caps can be made out of simple materials like citric acid ( vitamin C ), camp fire tablets and such ( no...I'm not giving you the freeking details ). I do however, have a lot of bladed weapons ( ask Eldar ). I have 2 Katanas and a Wagisashi and my wife's Damascus blades ( all sharp as Hell! ) as well as some ugly-assed defensive blades. Pretty to look at but ugly if I am swinging them in your direction. I also have oven cleaner ( sodium hydroxide ) in spray form. Try it in the eyes and see how you fair. Undead or not, ya gotta see yer food. Looters are usually stupid. Intellect trumps all. This is a fantastic idea. Instant adaption/theft of this idea. I once stored a pistol in this manner. A hollowed out section of wall in my apartment bedroom with a paper-mache section covering the weapon. Easy reach if needed. Luckily, it never was. This is called 'burglar bait' BTW. Poison it with nitromethane or dimethyl sulfinoxate mixed with rat poison, snake venom or some other interesting toxin.
  6. i'm guessing there's a point at which the "skin effect" takes over and microwave radiation won't penetrate certain materials beyond a certain depth. the same thing happens with current in a wire, and is a big reason most electrical cords are braided rather than solid conductors (besides flexibility). more, smaller, strands equates to a higher cross-sectional conduction area. mm waves range from 30 GHz (10 mm) to 300 GHz (1 mm), btw. taks Ever cook a burger in the microwave  ? The gathering of electrons as a surface effect of a conductor is different from the penetration of a sinoidial waveform. Intensity at point of reception and duration are the key factors here. These waves ( like microwaves ) work by increasing molecular activity by stimulating the water in a substance. Even if the 'skin effect' were in effect here, the skin would soon boil off all of it's water and become dead. As the outer skin was being heated, it would conduct heat inward ( and some outward ) in the form of simple heat ( BTUs ) causing further damage to the interior of the body. The resultant 'skin' might act as a barrier to further exposure but having 1/64th of an inch burned off of my body sounds like a 'really' bad case of sunburn. Been playing with my microwave oven and various metals to see which ones react when grounded and hit with microwaves. Gold, tin and iron break down the waves into radio waves and current ( voltage ). Aluminum, copper, brass and zinc do not seem to break the waves down ( at least to the point of creating current flow although all except aluminum 'warm' under exposure ). Just remembered that I haven't tried silver yet.
  7. And Denver buys a Ray-Gun... http://www.khow.com/cc-common/podcast/sing...show_boyles.xml I am having problem finding a good source to verify this but it seems that Homeland Security is paying for this little toy. I'm going to see if our techs working with Raytheon can verify this. Probably not. In any event...I'm going to be at the DNC to take readings on this weapon ( I'm not sure if use of this weapon violates the US Posse Comititus laws or not ). If Denver possesses this weapon, I'm quite sure that they will fire it. All it takes is a little encouragement  . Hey Pops!...want to come to Denver for the convention? I'll buy you lunch ( or dinner, whenever I can convence these Democrat maggots to fire their new toy. ) How about a side bet? I'll bet you $50.00 that our s***-stain Democrat Mayor and our equally butt-sniffing Govenor fire this weapon on an unarmed crowd of protesters within the time-frame of the convention. I further predict that it will be in Civic Center Park. I'm gonna be there to take readings on Denver's new toy. Can I expect to see you there ( if you want to take this portion of the bet, your ass needs to be there with me when the gun fires. No guts no glory m****r-f***er )? I believe that I know how to shield against millimeter waves. Unfortunately, my shielding will deflect the waves off of me toward those nearest me. That's just a risk you will have to take . I also think that I can reflect the millimeter waves back at the transmitter ( and those operating it ). Do you have the stones to take the chance? Come on Pops...pretend that you have a pair! You're a liberal. Quit buying your underwear at Victoria's Secrets and join me at the Great Peoples' Protest and see how liberals treat their fellow man when the chips are against them. Libs are supposed to have a 'record' of demonstration against authority. This is your chance to give 'The Man' the finger. Where's your nuts? Where they belong or in the hands of Homeland Security? My guess is that, as a liberal, you've handed them off to the Goverment for safe-keeping.
  8. 165 degrees for 15 seconds is considered industry standard for prevention of foodborn illnesses like E. Coli, Norwalk, Wisteria, et cet. Burgers and such I usually just fry in a pan and temp as I go until it's ready. I would choose Damascus over ceramic myself, if only because they are sturdy and will last longer. In fact, any steel from Japan will be a little higher quality than some other places, due to the naturally higher carbon content. Certainly. I only offered the ceramic knives as an alternative because they are about 1/4 to 1/3 of the price and are still excellent blades. Most people are not willing to upkeep their blades as Wals mentioned by keeping them properly honed. Cheaper metals will not hold a proper edge for long on their own but with good maintainence, can give a good edge for quite a while. I have a belt-buckle knife made out of 440 carbon steel that I sharpen yearly whether I use it or not. However, continued sharpening will change the overall shape of the blade giving it a curved edge instead of a straight one. The difference is obviously the quality of metal used. A good Japanese damascus blade is very expensive for the average homeowner but will have a very long life. The difference in cutting quality would only be noticable to someone that has handled both ceramic and damascus. The difference between a regular store-bought blade and a damascus however is night and day! I kinda figured that. If you were having a 'Manly' pig-roast, you would be using a machete to carve the servings . Global is a very good set of knives. I could have saved a lot of money by purchasing them for my wife instead but she had looked over the Global set and didn't like the grips. Since she would be using them for 8 or so hours a day, her complaint was understandable. Being a mechanic, I understand these seeming minor complaints about a tool that you must handle daily. Since she has not once complained about what I spend on tools, I could hardly skimp on hers.
  9. Just heard about this new type of oven. http://www.turbochef.com/residential/products/overview.aspx Looks good if it isn't all hype... When we remodeled the kitchen several years back, we made it a pseudo-commercial kitchen. Bought a very nice convection oven with all the trimmings. Cost about 1200 USD ( I think ) and does everything but sing and dance. This one looks really nice. As knives go, if you are willing to spend some real money for your kitchen knives, go with ceramic ( brittle ) or damascus. I just had a set of 53 layer Japanese VG10 damascus knives made up for my wife for Yule last year. Cost about 2300 USD for a set of 11 items ( 8 knives and 3 other utinsels ). These knives are far sharper than ceramic and since my wife now possesses them, I would never want to be caught cheating on her ( read - John Bobbitt!!! ). If you buy them regular they won't cost you near the amount I paid. I had custom handles made out of purple heart wood ( stole one of my wife's favorites so that the maker could make a template of the grip ), her name acid etched into the blades, custom mosaic pins, that sort of thing. Ask Fionavar for the pic of the blades. The knife-maker I used was one of my customers. When he was making the handles ( he bought the blades and built around them ), he cut himself down to the bone. He said it never even hurt it was so clean a cut! :F**k!: I shaved a single layer of skin off my fingertips and didn't know it until I washed my hands ( ouch ouch ). Ceramic blades are much cheaper and are excellent blades. The only drawback is that they are brittle and can break if you drop them. You really cannot sharpen them either. The steel blades you can and I would recommend a good diamond sharpener to keep a fine edge. Even with these 'drawbacks', ceramic blades are impressive. If you like fried foods, one of the kids bought me a covered frier last year for Yule. It is very similar to this one... http://www.t-falusa.com/tefal/products/pro...36NB5PBQN700DC7 I love it for it's speed and cleanliness. My wifes loves it because I no longer make a mess when I fry french fries ( chips ). It's covered so you don't spatter oil. You fill the basket, put the lid on it and then lower the basket into the oil. It regulates temperature as you cook.
  10. Firefox has a good add-on called 'unplug' that works well. It finds or rebuilds the imbedded links in the webpage and downloads the video directly from that link. The add-on places a green fish in the upper right corner of your screen. See a video, hit the fish, it displays the new links ( or best guess ). Hit the new link and here it comes.
  11. OK, and now we are here? I found a program that allows me to use the cam over a network. This http://www.webcamxp.com/home.aspx is way cool. Now the first thing to do is to set up a network. The Vista Online Help had a lot of information I did not need because already I have two machines connected to the internet by way of a router. It seems difficult to go through this information and know what I do need to do and what I do not need to do. So here I am. I have found out what the IP address is for the two machines and they are both connected to the same internet connection by way of a router. Now what? How do I make them see each other? Open 'Control Panel' and run 'Network Setup Wizard'. It will walk you through the process. You may need to buy a 'crossover' cable and connect it to the individual computers. It is an ethernet cable with the wires reversed at each plug. Cost is very low and I think the transfer speed is 400 Mb/s. You can buy these at most any office supply store. Once your Local Area Network ( LAN ) is set up, open control panel on your old computer and choose 'printers and faxes'. You should be able to 'share' your printer connection here. BTW...Anything 'shared' into the network will be seen by any other computer networked into the LAN. This generally means that you probably shouldn't 'share' your porn files ( unless of course you intend to share them with us  ). 'Share this drive' will give anyone on the network the ability to alter the drive fundimentally so choose wisely if you intend to open the 'drive root' to others. If you choose this option, the computer will warn you and ask you if you truely wish to do this. It's not a big risk but will give others on your network the ability to add/delete stuff from your drive without limitations. It does however provide a 'hackpoint' for the internet to attack if your firewalls are not sufficiently protective. I personally do not share my drives to the network. As far as your camera goes, if you are able to remove the media, throw the cable in the trash and buy a multimedia reader ( as your friend suggested ) and install it. The internal reader installs into the face of your computer costs around $30 USD ( depending on features ) and plugs into one of the 8 pin USB connections on your motherboard or directly to an external USB port. If you don't have any internal ports available or are unsure how to do this ( plugging your connection into an 8 pin Firewire connection could fry your new device and possibly damage your motherboard ) just buy an external reader ( plugs into an external USB port ). They cost about $40 USD and have the convenience of being able to use on other computers. What's one more piece of digital crap in your room right? The multimedia readers are nice because they read the media much faster than most of the cheap camera cables will transmit. When you plug the media reader in, open 'My Computer' and the reader will show up as a series of new drives. Each type of media available to the reader will show as a separate drive though. You will have to learn which one is the 'drive' that reads your particular media card. Not a big deal though. Another option is to buy a converter to USB device. My wife's camera uses a SD card for media. I bought her a SD to USB converter at Office Max for $10 USD. Not as versatile but just a thought. Depends on what media your camera uses.
  12. It's already f****d up! What's the worst that could happen? He has to buy a new PSU?! Arkan...stay out of anything that does not relate to the fan circuit and you should be fine. Blow some 'dust-out' through the fan bearing mounts and possibly spray them with WD40. You can do this without opening the unit. The bearings should be sealed so if blowing them out does not clear up the noise them the WD40 probably will not either. Even if it does, it will be temporary so plan on replacing the PSU. If you do use WD40 or any other oil, use the tube so as not to allow the oil to enter any of the circuitry. It's low voltage so the oil will probably not be conductive but why take the chance. Do not use anything lighter than '3 in 1' oil as you start getting into the 'solvent' range of volitales and could 'melt' the fan blade hub or bearing covers. It's 120 volts. Yes it can kill you if you are careless. I know that you know to keep your mitts out of a live circuit. Don't tinker with it live. You're not stupid so I don't expect you to have any issues with this. Simply determine if it is the fan bearing or not. If the bearing noise stops after clearing the bearing of debris, cool. If it doesn't, plan on buying a new power supply.
  13. Dear ~Di, Lurk Moar. Speak less. Signed, Abraham Lincoln, one-term US representative, best president ever. I think I have a right to express an opinion without being singled out and told to basically shut up. That was uncalled for. You have the right to be called out when you're impressively wrong. Unless you're honestly willing to argue that my old friend Abe really was an undistinguished and unsuccessful president as a direct result of his lack of experience, which I suppose you could, except... no, no, you can't, really. That would be well stupid. You have the right to disagree with my opinion. Elections are nothing more than a counting of opinions, after all. An opinion, a choice, cannot be "wrong". You do not have a right to tell me to basically shut up. If you want to go back a couple of centuries, sure, we can go back even further. George Washington had no governmental experience whatsoever. Neither did most of his immediate successors. However, we are not talking about the 18th century, or the 19th century. We are talking about the 21st century, where foreign affairs really are a big deal, and a lack of experience thereof can be catastrophic. We are also talking about issues, clearly stated, that we may disagree with versus issues not articulated at all, so we can't really figure out if we agree or disagree with them. Between Obama and Clinton, I think Clinton is the stronger, more experienced candidate. If you disagree, swell. I won't tell you to shut up. If you want to delineate what Obama's positions are on basic policies versus Hillary, great. I'll listen. I'd love to know what his positions are, since he hasn't managed to tell me yet. So go on. Let's see a lovely comparison of Obama versus Hillary, position by position. Let us know exactly why you feel his positions are superior. And try to do so without ridiculing me, since I'm actually not running, y'know. As someone who originally told Di to "shut up" at one time long ago...I'm siding with her here. While her opinion is that H. Clinton will win the Dem nomination may or may not be correct, her summation is sound. The nomination will be made according to viability to win, NOT the popular vote. The Dems are more concerned with winning the Presidency than anything else. If this means kissing the public booty then they are more than willing to do so. I'll make a wager with you. Watch the local Dem convention with me. Lincoln didn't start the civil war to free the blacks from slavery for reasons of morality as much as for economic reasons. As it looks like the Democratic nomination will be decided here in Denver ( as it may be too close to call ), I will wager you a $100 Visa card that ( no matter what ) Hillary will be the nominated candidate for the Dems. Decision to be arbitared here by the members of this forum. I will send you the account numbers and ex date of the card I purchase to support my claim. I'm up for it...are you? Walk the talk or don't piss away our time ( other denominations , (lessor or greater) available as long as a confidence in a candidate nomination is shown). $100.00 on the table...pick it up or walk away! What's yer choice? Pops, I haven't heard from you on this...My offer is still good for the next two days ( it's been nearly a month and I've not had a response from you ) and I'm lookinf for a response from you. Hillary is on the ropes and Barrack is looking strong...my offer is good for the next 48 hours. Again, I must ask...deal or no deal?!?
  14. It's a complete myth that closing long threads helps the forums run smoothly. The forum software doesn't store a thread as a whole unit; each post has a unique key and exists independently of a thread, meaning you can make a thread as arbitrarily short or long as you want and it won't speed up or slow down the forum. The only thing that significantly slows down a forum is search, which is why you disable it for guests, impose a time-limit between searches, and don't allow searches for less than 5 characters. However, search efficiency still remains independent of thread lengths. I'm kinda responsible for this policy Krez. When I was modding at UnForgotten Realms ( and Interplay ), the admin at UFR found that the server load started to bog at around 500 posts. Because of this, I kinda spread this policy as 'gospel' whenever long threads were created. I started this at Interplay when the Iraq war threads started in an attempt to alleviate server load ( and hence protect the YOP forum ) and carried the policy wherever I went from there. The 500 post recommendation here was mine. Probably the best member to ask about this would be the Guildmaster.
  15. People are usually asked about their nationalities in a more friendly context than "why, are you Asian?" as if it were a challenge of some kind. You phrased it like I must be Asian or something in order to ask the question; that's why I didn't feel compelled to offer you a proper response. But fair is fair. The answer to your question is **** yeah! Now, you got some rice for me, bitch? Oh look, I've gone out of character That's 'Fried rice you plick!' If I remember correctly, HPV occurs naturally in a large percentage of humanity but may be passed along sexually. I'll bet these media maggots didn't even check on the likelihood that this is a 'normal' event. With the media slurping up the public butt for ratings, I wouldn't wonder too long at this since butt-sniffing seems to be the public norm for the media. And guess what!?!...you people are believing it in the usual sheep-like manner. This story reeks like recently squeezed manure. It would certainly lead to increased sales of the 'anti-virus' injection offered by the friends of Baby-Doc Bush. Golly Gee, I'm shocked if this is true. Let me run down to the local clinic and get a HPV shot for my daughter!!! Gimme a freeking break! Don't let others do your thinking for you!
  16. I've had excellent results with my Dewalt cordless tools over the last 10 years or so. As power tools go, they are fairly reasonably priced for what you buy. They were purchased several years ago by Black & Decker but B & D had the sense to leave them alone and market them as their industrial ine of power tools. I have the reciprocating saw, circular saw, drill with hammer-drill feature, snake light ( all 18 volt batteries ). I also have a line voltage drill and 4" hand grinder. Both have enough torque to separate you from your nuts if they 'grab' the surface that you are working on. Batteries can be pricey though. If you catch them on sale you can find them for about $100 USD for two otherwise they run about $80-$90 each. You will want to have a few if you are going to be using them extensively. I have a dual battery charger in my work vehicle and keep batteries on charge regularly. The dual charger came with one battery and cost me about $100 USD. The present batteries have a fairly good charge life but the Ion batteries ( when Dewalt finally gets them out ) should be much better ( and more pricey! ). I've not used Riobe but have heard good things about them. Makita has gotten better. I still like my Dewalt stuff though. Had used Makita when they only had a 9.6 volt battery and cussed them regularly. When I bought my first 18 volt Dewalt drill, I charged the battery and started the drill with my hand on the drill chuck intending to 'bog' the drill to check the power. I earned 'skid-marks' on my hand for my trouble ( Freeking Ouch!!! ). Buy an adapter for your drill that will allow you to use sockets with it. Cost you a couple of bucks for this. You can thank me later for this advice  Craftsman ( if available ) is a good choice as they have a very good guarantee. I definitely recommend the ratching wrenches for ease of operation. Once you use them, you'll never want to use a regular wrench again. I don't recommend Snap-On becuase they are over-priced and no better than Craftsman and you usually will have trouble getting replaced unless you are on a salesman's regular route ( or are willing to drive to their warehouse ). Proto hand tools are also excellent. Malco is okay but nothing special. Lennox makes very good hole-saws. Greenlee electricians tools are good but over-priced. Ideal are cheaper but just about as good. Gardner Bender also makes good electrical tools. Also pricey though. Any tool set that advertises a recommended price of $XXX.XX but will sell for $XX.XX is crap. Don't buy it unless you only intend to use it a few times or don't intend to 'stress' the tool. I beat the Hell out of my tools so I buy very durable tools. My regular tool purchases exceed $2000.00 per year. I've been at this for over twenty years so this should show you where I'm at with respect to tools. This doesn't include the tools that I design/build myself when I have an odd application that I need to meet. Don't buy hand tools that are 'Drop Forged'. They are cast steel crap. Don't buy tools made in 'USA'. Note that there are no periods between the letters USA. These are make in Usa, Japan to encourage Americans to buy and feel patriotic. They are mostly crap as well. Electrical voltmeters for home repairs, most any digital multimeter will work for your needs but Fluke is top on the line. Field Piece is very good and considerably less money. I use both and have not noticed any difference. For your home-owner needs, pretty much any multimeter will work. You don't need precision to read if voltage is present or not. If you intend to read a GFCI circuit ( ground fault circuit interupter ( used in kitchens, bathrooms, anywhere water may be present ), you will want a better meter for this application. Buy one with 'high impedance' or 'low meter loading'. Otherwise your meter will false trip the circuit you are trying to read. Most any propane or MAPP gas torch will work for soldering copper pipe and they are cheap. Buy one with an auto-light feature though as they are wayyy more convenient to use. About $30 for a good one by Benzomatic. Don't spend the extra money for Turbo-Torch brand. A good torch but overpriced and I've had worse luck with them the the cheaper Benzomatic. If you are feeling especially 'manly' the day you make your purchases, an oxy-acetylene torch is handy. It will reach temperatures of 6000 deg F though so it might be a little much unless you intend to cut or weld/braze steel. Can be handy though once you have one but not something for the average homeowner. A cheap bench grinder will become invaluable once you have one. Christ, between being able to put different wheels ( cutting, buffing, grinding ) on them and their safe, stable application, you can hardly go wrong with even a cheap one ( $30-$50 USD ). Buy safety glasses though as you can throw crap in you eyes with them. Avoid tools that market using terms like "Professional Grade" ( no such thing ), "Master Mechanic ( whatever ) " as they are appealing to your ego rather than actually making a decent product. You will be sadly disappointed.

  18. I both shred and burn. I kinda like both my privacy and fire. Years ago ( '70's ) I hacked a federal site I had no business hacking. I was so scared afterwards I burned the printouts and then flushed the ashes down the toilet. Target missle sites. Oh S T!
  19. Let's see...with this info ( in the US ) I could gain your home address, social security number and probably your phone number. I could then dig through your rubbish and learn all kinds of interesting info. I could then call in your credit cards as stolen, change your utility ( electric/gas ) accounts to a different address ( with you paying for them ), and just for fun...change your phone number and place a password against your account to make it difficult to fix your account. Hell, I could register you as a Republican! I have done all these things simply for my amusement because someone pissed me off. Imagine if someone actually wanted to do you real harm. Don't give out real info on the internet!
  20. Naw, I bought it along with a bunch of other software as a novelty. Spybot will catch it BTW.
  21. You mean you don't have one handy? I do have WinGuardian. That's why I suggested it as a possible bit of amusement. It is a key-logger that also records what web-sites you visit, copies of your e-mail received and sent as well as all the key commands you give your system and the internal files that you visit. It must be installed locally though. I just don't know how to make it self-executing. You set it up on a system and it'll e-mail the results directly to your inbox as often as you wish. Might be kinda fun don't you think?
  22. Better yet. Drop a key-logger like WinGuardian into it. See if one of the techies here can make it self executing and email the results to some free addy like hotmail or some-such.
  23. Drop a picture of goatse, tubgirl and lemonparty into it and see if the activity stops.
  24. Buy a Visa gift card. Set up the internet account under whatever name you choose. Use the card to buy coffee or whatever until you've burned the card down to about $5. Then give that card info out to the spammers. Check you internet card account to see who's trying to use it and for how much. Since these cards are used just like a credit card ( but won't allow you to go negative with the balance ), the spammers probably won't know the difference and it could be worth the $5 lost just to annoy them. Once they've tried to access the card to use it, you should have some of the bogus info of their 'company' and you can amuse yourself by spamming them with bondage ads or just use the address of some other spammer. 'tsall good!
  25. Drop me a note whenever you plan to stop into Denver, Colorado and I'll fix you up! I'll have my wife watch my cooking so you don't wind up with indigestion  . Mexican food is my favorite though. I can live on tacos! While my wife's damascus knives are very sharp, they don't throw very well.
