  1. With all the recent tech talk in the GeForce thread, I was wondering if anyone with a fair knowledge of motherboards could recommend me a motherboard and processor combo. I currently have an ASUS A7V8X motherboard with an AMD Athlon Thoroughbred processor with ~1.35 GHz (which can be tweaked up to 1.8 and 2.2~Ghz). What I'm looking for is a motherboard that can still house my ATI Radeon X800 Pro with a corresponding 8x AGP slot, but that it also features a PCI-Express slot so I won't have to switch to another mobo if I feel like upgrading my graphics card. In processing terms, I was thinking of something in the 3Ghz department, probably Pentium as I hear it's stable and I prefer stability to speed. Since I can't really go for anything right now I'd appreciate if the suggestions were made considering that I'll only be able to buy any recommendation in the near future, something ranging between two to six months. Thanks for any help.
  2. Not a typo - a whole new franchise!
  3. This is a fun indicator of just how screwed up pedestrians are in San Andreas, even more than in past games. They tend to be a bit more aggressive and vindictive; oftentimes you'll find some driver chasing your and even ramming against your car because earlier you had collided against his. Pedestrians also can leave cars and come with golf clubs and bats after players or NPCs who crashed against them. I took this picture because I saw a gathering at the end of a highway leading into San Fierro. There's a granny in a car trapped between two other cars, and there's a guy on top of her car hitting it with a golf club The granny eventually comes out but is beaten to death with a baseball bat by a guy in a car who had crashed against hers. Meanwhile, after the granny gets turned into elderly pulp, a policeman comes up, shoots the guy who assaulted the granny and goes away. I turn the radio on and drive away.
  4. If you were expecting any other kind of reply from such a self-explanatory statement, then you'll have to look elsewhere. If you want to find out why some people favor one over the other I'm sure someone will be more than happy to satisfy your curiosity; I would do it if I wasn't pretty bored of having the same discussion time and again. But outright stating you aren't bothered by it doesn't really beg for much for discussion since your mind is apparently set.
  5. Because you are a different person and as such approach things differently. That'll be 10
  6. And I wouldn't be surprised that it would turn up to be more interesting than Radiant AI, which in itself doesn't seem to be a whole much better than what Gothic II already did concerning NPC reactions.
  7. Beating up people with a double edged ****. Fo' real an' all.
  8. Nope, no dual-core CPUs. Just asking for simple CPUs.
  9. A Minish Cap and a Cane of Somaria.
  10. How I made my millions.
  11. I'd recommend William Gibson's Sprawl Trilogy (Neuromancer, Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive) and a short story compilation of his entitled Burning Chrome. Also, Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon and Snow Crash.
  12. Speaking of which are there any know issues involving the simultaneous AMD chipsets and ATi cards?
  13. I've had my fair share of good and bad ATi experiences. I've been lucky to get a somewhat stable performance in most games with my X800 Pro but then some things just bring it down. I still can't play my copy of Half-Life 2 without it overheating to the point of forcing the PC to restart itself. Sid Meier's Pirates! also suffered from a handful of lockups and overheating schisms. On the other hand I've only had Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas share similar problems once and I've been playing non stop for a couple of days.
  14. The date didn't start out too well. They went to the club and did some dancing, but C.J. wasn't up to snuff; his morning spent on pimping and drinking didn't left him in tip top shape. But it was when they disagreed on how the night should end that he threatened Denise to do what he wanted, otherwise she'd taste his shaft. Unfortunately for her, he meant the metal shaft of his pistol.
  15. Using a Shotgun against police helicopters. Crouch, aim, fire two shots then roll to the side. Rinse and repeat. Boom.
  16. I have no qualms with the moderators themselves. However I have seen a fair amount of users having a particular attitude, and posting habits to go along with it, that went against forum guidelines (admitedly, some more blatantly than others) more than once and went by unchecked. Why this happens I have no idea, and I'm left wondering what exactly the definitions of "trolling" and "badmouthing other companies" are in the context of Obsidian's forums. A shame that since I think you're a fine (and I'm not talking about yout tight buns) user and would be a welcome addition to the intelligent debates that often spring up from the chaos there. To each his own.
  17. Of course; that particular part of the post was about our opinions. Trolling may be restricted here but I've yet to see it being moderated to any meaningful degree. And by meaningful I don't speak of a "Memento Mori" tagged to a post preceding the lock of a thread, either. You were talking of how some perceived issues (profanity) with posts made on the Codex, coupled with their lack of profanity filtering, led discussions into being schoolyard brawls. Likewise I indicated what I felt happened here using your formula.
  18. There's also a difference between saying something surrounded in subtle trolling and saying the same thing surrounded in profanity, and if you're following the origin of our exchange you should note that my point is that the attitude behind Shadowstrider's quote is the same kind of attitude that gets expressed here; criticizing the Codex or any other place for doing something which is a common occurence here only because it may be peppered with profanity doesn't make it better. I want to think you're more perceptive than that.
  19. Examples of this, perhaps? On the contrary, I find the amount of time, press and effort surrounding the site is a perfect example of why 'free for all' forums work just fine in their own environment and with their own rules. Would they work if they were moderated forums which enforce given sets of rules and behaviours like the Obsidian boards? Probably not, but quite probably neither would the Obsidian boards if the same rules and environment that exist in the Codex were promoted here. But none of that is particularly indicative of any failings of the forums themselves, but rather of trying to submit them to different hierarchy and rules. You're describing attitudes which are prevalent all over the net on a myriad of communicational channels, and are not exclusive to the Codex. You're free to associate the use of profanity with a lack of language or conversational skills but I see no reason as to why one must lead to the other.
  20. But then it would just be you and Llyranor relentlessly exchanging avatars... Where would your glory be if no one saw you two do that?
  21. Funny, neither am I. Still funny, I didn't said it was boring. Is this the right time to remind you that the context of my post in regards to NumbersMan was dealing with the deficiencies found in certain types of discussions rather than where the discussions themselves take place?
  22. Discussions are often fun because among other things they promote challenging established opinions and thoughts; not because someone throws f-bombs around or because someone is using their softcore version of insults that elude moderating guidelines. I'd argue it's more fun to convey someone's ideas trough posts which find themselves dumped into a myriad of any of the afforementioned things without resorting to them, but like many other things it's subjective. Childish bickering + mellow moderating guidelines = Kindergarten snoozefests.
