  1. I sincerely doubt that. Read this then: http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/2msl96/we_are_beamdog_developers_of_baldurs_gate_i_ii/
  2. Wait. Nipsen, you are not even a PoE backer. Wtf are you spending so much time here debating stuff for a game you don't really care about?
  3. Beamdog has WotCs ear and will like to make another D&D game similar to IE games using either IE engine or even PoE engine.
  4. And yet OE has already said that biggest challenges will not be on the main quest road. I also have a feeling they will not let players get to last fight underleveled and undergeared.
  5. You might be in a wrong game then. PoE will have endless stash and there will be no reason to not click loot all as everything extra goes magically to the stash.
  6. You can, but only if you think Mass Effect would be better if it had more BG2 in it instead of other way around.
  7. I am also playing IWD:EE (on core rules) but I decided to take my lvl 9/10 party and go do the expansion content. It was challenging as hell (some figts I needed to try multiple times) but I done it all and came back to regular content as lvl 13/14. Now everything is super easy and boring and I cannot force myself to finish it. And I don't like to put difficulty above Core rules, I like playing with full D&D rules, no easier or harder.
  8. This is the type of feedback I appreciate, its made by someone who has actually played the game and is done in way that is reasonable and objective By the way Indira have you experienced any Romance arcs? I know this is relatively unchartered RPG territory for you so I'm keen to see what you think? There is nothing objective about this. People that enjoy things are always going to be praising over the top and people that hate things are always going to be bashing over the top. At best you can believe people that you know enjoy same kind of things as you do.
  9. BTW, Minsc has become a canon D&D character and now he is even in a comic book. I don't see NWN2 OE characters getting same treatment. So, let get back to the start. Will PoE have awesome and memorable companions with memorable and fun voice sets? Will those character be able to present their personality in a fun way even without the need to go into serious conversations with them (Kotor 2 style)?
  10. Yes, that would be a good idea as well. It would make some of those skills more useful.
  11. I want what Sensuki says but with a bit of a twist. During mortal combat items get destroyed so I want WYSIWYG to determine base list of items and then a roll to see what items survived combat. Armors and shields should have least chance to survive fights while items like rings, amulets should have greatest.
  12. While we are talking about casual players playing BG1, I had a "pleasure" yesterday of helping one finish Sarevok fight for his first time. He had the difficulty all the way to easiest, came to the fight at lvl 6 (due to skipping half the content and mostly following main quest), had crappy equipment, didn't use buffs or potions and didn't understand any of the standard tactics. He died like 10+ times in Sarevok fight and only managed to do it once I told him about prebuffing, summoning and potion buffing. He was ready to quit the game without trying to figure it out himself. He was a younger gamer, used to MMORPGs. Now, I don't know if PoE should be like BG1 and be punishing bad players in certain fights. Or if it should cater more to casual gamers and be like other games where following main quest will get your enough XP and equipment that you can beat easily all required fights on Easy without a need for thought, planning or tactics.
  13. A fair point, in that I'd rather see something like Mirror Image (even if abstracted) function differently than anything else that provides you with a Deflection bonus. Or, rather, not necessarily that specific spell, but I'd like to see some spell function differently than that, but be a similar type of spell. For what it's worth, though, judging by the spell icon, and what lack of lore description we have for the spell, it appears as though that particular spell functions as it should. It seems to create extra images of you (as if the enemy is looking at one of those "I'm trying on clothes" triple-mirrors") in relation to your location, not separate images that jog around on and act on their own or anything. So, it makes sense that you only gain a Deflection bonus, as the enemy is still swinging at "you," he just can't tell exactly where he should swing, because his visual perception and distance/positioning judgement is compromised. But, when he swings at an image and misses you (or... even if he happens to hit you because he's swinging close enough to you), he then knows that his blade did not, in fact, come into contact with THAT targeted image. So, he can discount that one (even though he can still see it) and adjust for a better swing next time. This mirror image then works as a weaker Displacement spell from D&D. Displacement gave enemies 50% miss chance on all attacks (vs non spell attacks) while mirror image reduces hit chance by 20% (which also works more like Blur from IE games) but images only protect from few hits. The spell overall is too weak. Either make it like Blur so it gives +20 deflection for the duration or make it like Mirror Image and that vs each attack rolls a chance of caster being hit or image being hit with images disappearing once hit.
  14. Forgot to add. Camera angle is so strange and worse than IE games. I really wish they changed it to be more like in IE games.
  15. Those are interesting links but they don't really answer my questions.
  16. Melee Engagement It is not good enough at the moment. Either let players move freely inside melee engagement range so we can at least circle the ones we fight or make the penalty for ignoring it different. We should be able to move away to heal or save our party member but not be able to easily get to back line of enemy. As I suggested earlier, best to use 4e D&D way of giving those ignoring enemy they are in melee engagement a big penalty to accuracy. It forces tactical decisions (do I want to get rid of this pesky fighter first or go for the mage but I will have much smaller chance to hit him), fighters with multiple engagement can choose their targets and not be stuck attacking first guy they engage with, and you can move away from enemy to heal without suffering a hit (accuracy penalty is not important in this case). Then like in 4e you can give different classes different effects when enemies ignore engagement (or you do), like paladins doing damage over time with their aura to those that ignore them. IE vs PE Spell Casters Balance is OK goal, but party balance not individual class balance. This a party game and should be treated as such. If all classes do similar damage and have similar effectiveness in same situations it is nothing more but a Mass Effect 3 ending where you chose 3 different colors of same thing. Also, spells need to do all kinds of different effects. I don't mind martial abilities doing all kind of special effects as well as long as it makes sense. But there needs to be lots of different cool options. IE games still stand as having best magic system. Combat Experience I will miss this, but I guess I can live without it. My last play of BG1EE with all mage party made my low level party happy each time I would take down (with lot of effort) some really tough enemy and get 1400 xp for it. It is just not the same when your only reward is a 35 gp gem. Without combat XP I got no reason to fight those and would rather skip them (it is already challenging enough to play low level without tanks). Game Speed I don't have access to beta but from live streams and youtube videos and player descriptions I surely looks like it is too fast. Hopefully next patch and by release it is made much better. And amount of damage dealt with each hit seems to as guilty as speed of movement and attacks. Pillars of Eternity Expansion I do hope they will take any criticism after release of PoE seriously and use the expansion to make it better.
  17. This is most hilarious **** I have heard in a long time. Haha, DAI a deep game. LOL. Try Xcom with Long War mode if you want a deep game. Facebook games LOL LOL
  18. Those plenty of Bhaalspawn didn't have a close encounter with Sarevok and survived. When you think someone like Sarevok is hunting you, hiding is not a real option. Well you can try to hide in BG1 but you run into assassins often so your only choice left is to fight.
  19. Well this is what I am talking about. OE NPCs are not noticeable but once you talk to them they are more complex. I don't mind more complex but I want them interesting even outside 1on1 talks. Most of them game you don't talk to them but keep giving them orders and what they say then should be interesting. There is no rule that says they cannot have interesting combat barks and more complex personality.
  20. I just been playing BG1EE from the start and took some companions that I usually don't take (like Xzar, Edwin or Xan) and it made me figure out how many of the companions are really interesting and fun. The combat and command bark are often so funny, the voice actors also did a good job. When I add to them others like Khalid or Minsc or Jan (or that crazy cleric of Bane/Cyric) the game was full of interesting companions (even without being able to do their quests and stuff). Will PoE companions be as interesting? I don't feel it is enough to let players have lengthy conversations with them like in Kotor 2 or MotB, I want them to have cool command voice overs during combat and when moving. Their personality should be already noticed that way. If possible give them voice overs in different situation where they would comment some event without starting a 1on1 dialogue with the player (similar to how Jaheira screams when Khalid dies). In the last stream Jesse found a first companion and I didn't find him instantly interesting. In Bg1 you get Imoen, and she is instantly noticeable with her personality, so are Xzar and Montaron.
  21. While Sawyer won't personally be advising a new player playing the gold release, I'm fairly certain some manner of tutorial will accompany the game. Screwing up simply because you lack knowledge about the game is not really a testament to the difficulty of the game. Yes it is. I watched people play DAI from start and none of them screwed up anything (even the ones that played it on Nightmare).
  22. You must be a special kind of person to like singleplayer MMOs. I think that has already been established. To be honest, I have no idea what he is doing on these forums. Trying to turn PoE into crappy RPG like DAI.
  23. Thank you for this response. It is certainly much better than you hating spellcasters :D I also hope to see more spells (for all classes) added in an expansion.
  24. If this is the Jesse stream link it is not true. Sawyer gave him advice more than once and had to revive his team once after tpk. Also I am sure that was on easy or normal difficulty.
  25. I was referring to playing all martial vs all casters.
