You're right, nothing to worry about. While the USD is still a reserve currency and it's still used to trade oil, the US can keep printing money and sinking ever deeper into debt indefinitely. So long as the US (and NATO toadies) are willing to crush anyone who dare threaten the status of the almighty dollar as dominant global currency, you don't need to bother stockpiling more supplies. Now, if the Chinese start succeeding at trading oil for yuan...

Despite not hitting the goal, they will be including modding support anyway. edit: also looks like they have pushed back release to january next year

Got Starbound at a friend's urging. More like "Prospection Simulator 2016". As far as sandboxes go, I guess it's second to none. Not really my cup of tea, though.

If you have all MoW games, skip the original and go straight to Men of War Assault Squad 2 Origins. It's a remaster of the original in the latest version of the engine that is actually worthy of the denomination. (ow, the edge!) That's funny because the pseudo-Nietzschean bull that the main baddie is constantly going on about is something that would fit nicely in a character written by MCA. The game lacked the setting deconstruction that is the other trademark of Avellone, but then again, it's a pretty generic modern-day urban setting. Narrative was nothing to write home about in any case — the game's strengths were in the actual gameplay and the game was good despite the writing.

Agreed. What you need most to succeed in Commandos is patience and observation. There isn't much room for actual tactics either because most of the time you'll be picking off sentries one by one, if at all. So yeah, in that regard it has more in common with mikado or jenga than a game that revolves around actual small unit tactics in scenarios that are on the surface like Commandos missions, such as the excellent Men of War. I also expect any future Commandos titles to be thoroughly underwhelming.

Hey, I sometimes watch that guy's cardboard crack channel. Guess he's branching out into general political commentary now? One might think he would have his hands full with WotC...

There is very little mission variety, and 95% of the game plays exactly as you described. Either crank up the difficulty to remove the hud etc. to make it require some awareness and tactics, or adjust your mindset to accept that it's really a GTA clone with a military shooter paintjob set in a jungle environment. I had tons of fun with it, but I played it from start to finish in coop.

Pretty sure your manfeels are just hurt that a strong independent woman showed that nobody owns her! And I thought I had poor impulse control.

Tokyo subway nerve gas attack cult leader is hanged I honestly had no idea Japan still executed perps. If there's a case to be made for the death penalty, mass-murdering cult leaders are certainly it. Death by hanging is a much better way to go than what his victims got, in any case.

Obligatory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiW0IPrv1Ro Crynaldo, Rollmar et al got nothing on the greats of old.

It didn't pass... this time. They'll give it another go in september.

Politicians who don't understand %topic%? Surely you jest. Obsidian is based in the US, but their website is available in the EU, which could make them liable under EU law, in that regard. So they either license the auto censor software from Google, Facebook or what have you (in which case it may be applied across the, erm, board, not just to Yuroppans because it's trivially easy to circumvent via proxy or VPN), or they start blocking connections from the EU to avoid trouble, or any other equally ham-fisted and ineffectual prevention scheme you can think of. For instance, Valve isn't based in the EU either, but they had to comply with the Dutch gambling authority's ruling regarding lootboxes, and they did so by suspending trade for Dutch players. It may be possible to use an analogous selective system in a message board, but... it's probably just not worth the trouble for Obsidian. If a US-based user posts a god emperor of catkind pic in a EU based website, it's the website operator's responsibility to filter out all content that can violate copyright, regardless of who posted it, because the website itself falls under EU jurisdiction. edit: ninja'd.

Bought Portal 2 for like 1,50€. Was cruising along fine, but finally ran into a puzzle that left me totally stumped. Turns out you can put the ****ing gel in the ****ing tractor beam. The actual solution was trivial after that. I mean, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I wish the difficulty was more in the puzzles themselves than in the unexplained interplay between the thingamajigs. Had more or less the same in a coop game where we wasted like 10 minutes running around like headless chicken until we realized the gel can paint light bridges. Yeah, yeah. Feel free to point and laugh.

EU has approved regulation to end memes! Bad article tbh. The real vote is taking place on July 5th. Doubtful it'll actually pass, but if there's anything you can count on with M(E)Ps is their uncanny ability to **** things up against all odds. Hopefully this is just another step in the path to Itexit, Spexit, etc. and eventual EU crash and burn. So, anyone have a good "dark web (cue ominous music) for dummies" primer?

Fred Ford & Paul Reiche III (the original creators of Star Control) are fighting a legal battle against Stardock to keep the IP. They have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover their projected $2M legal costs. So rather than secure funding for their supposed "Ghosts of the Precursors" project that doesn't sound like total vaporware at all, they have to raise money to give to the lawyers. A wonderful state of affairs.

Speaking from experience, you are wrong. I recently recovered access to the old Steam account I created solely to activate my physical copy of HL2 back in 2004. All they required was a proof of ownership which I was able to provide.
-
You cannot "lose" your receipts as long as you don't completely lose your identity, and thus the ability to claim ownership of your bank account. Which then can be used to obtain copies of any receipts. Since you're constantly making a point of schooling folks on the *digital* world, and in the digital world, every transaction can be traced. But of course, you already knew that.

Here's what I'm running: Add Year to Timeline — self-explanatory Adjusted Mech Assembly — salvaged mechs are assembled with random parts damaged Basic Panic System — pilots, both yours and the AI's, can panic when missions go pear shaped, get penalties for it, and can ultimately eject Better AI — hurr, me no move, me fire (no longer) Better Juggernaut — brace after punching, the "fire all weapons after punching" variant is cheat-tier IMO, but I won't judge Commander Portrait Loader — allows you to use custom portraits for your commander and a voice set different from the default onboard AI Drop Cost per Mech — simulate fuel costs for your DropShip, configurable to be either per ton or fraction of chassis cost (I go raw tons) Exclusive Filters — QoL UI stuff Ain't Got Time to Bleed — pilots can drop even when injured, best used in combination with Injuries Hurt — MechWarriors receive penalties per injury Jack's Star League Era Markets — adds a chance to find LosTech in relevant planets, it's highway robbery though Jack's View Distance Increase — view/sensor distances are now based on mech chassis and Tactics skill Monthly Morale Reset — to justify investing on recreation upgrades and make exploiting morale abilities a bit harder Unlock Full Map After Obtaining the Argo — self-explanatory, the vanilla travel restriction is dumb Permanent Evasion — shooting at a target no longer removes evasion pips; optionally configurable to work for Ace Pilots only and/or mech category Removed Story Difficulty Boosts, Planet Difficulty Variety and Contract Tweaks — the difficulty of contracts offered depends on where you are, not at what point in the campaign Repair Tonnage — repair costs and times are dependent on tonnage; for example repairing a fully destroyed Atlas takes 60+ days and costs about 3 mil, max upgraded mechbay Real Hit Chance — don't ****ing tell me I have a 45% shot at getting the HB10's number if it's actually a 33%. My ego can only take so much punishment Less Head Injuries — random MG rounds chipping your windshield no longer cause a concussion, doesn't affect the chances of AC/20 "BOOM! headshot" ruining your day Most, if not all of those are configurable to hit your personal sweet spot. They also all require BTML/ModTek. Those are trivial to install, though. edit: I also changed a handful of lines in CombatGameConstants to have each evasion pip increase hit difficulty by 10% instead of 5%. Speed is life and so on and so forth.

Heh. The exact opposite happened to me. I couldn't get into XCOM's watered down gameplay compared to UFO/TFTD, but I have 100+ hours in Battletech. In the beginning, you will have very limited options. Once you start getting more mechs and your pilots gain more abilities, you will have more ways to tackle encounters. The game does suffer from a lack of variety outside of the campaign, though. And due to encounter design, LZ placement etc. all mission types are essentially "Battle". So, yes, it's a lot of "move mech, shoot" (or "shoot, move mech" if Ace Pilot). But it is a game about giant stompy robits blowing each other to pieces, so that's kinda to be expected.

It's the merc background. I got an event about one of my pilots tinkering with a LRM stack that had two of the four choices between brackets, one for "bookish" and other for "technician". The MW in question happened to have both tags so I could choose either, but I've seen other events where those were grayed out because the dude(tte) in question didn't have any applicable tags. Officer training is one of those, IIRC Dekker has it. It's a nice little bonus for hiring mercenaries who already have some sort of background and experience vs hiring total greenhorns.

On that note, vote on what your preferences are for stretch goals. That wasn't there when I first pledged (I think).

They fixed the Ace Pilot bug, maybe I'll give this another shot. In other news, Harmony Gold and Piranha Games proposed dismissal of all claims with prejudice. Whatever the hell that means, anyway. IANAL, but that sounds like everyone agreed to go their separate ways, business as usual. Which is good news as far as getting some more Un(re?)seen in BT, and probably an indication that HG won't try to **** with MechWarrior 5 down the line either.
