RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - FREE WHITE HOUSE MONTAGE
213374U replied to Blarghagh's topic in Computer and Console
Same here. It's my favorite MMO, but when my guild dissolved as people moved on to greener pastures, around the time when The Titan Awakes still hadn't been beaten by anyone, I found it impossible to enjoy with randos. I've tried to get back to it once or twice, but it's just not the same. A pity, I enjoyed the gameplay and dungeon design way way more than the WoW-derivatives that are so common now. -
USA: Iran, you can't have teh nukes, you're too much of a global security threat Russia: dafuk u doing m8?? USA: OMG we aren't technically building more nukes, that's just to make them "safer"!

The Codex is an alt right forum ? Thought it was just one with a high degree of **** posts User: Malcador Kodex Kool Kredits: >9000 Seriously though, for an "alt-right" forum, it sure does have a ton of commies and other kinds of people you wouldn't expect to find there and which I won't directly refer to because I've already been in trouble with moderation here for it.

Before uninstalling I was running a mod that buffed evasion. Light mechs are still a bad idea for a stand-up fight, but I used a Firestarter armed with 6x small lasers in anti-vehicle duty with good results. With maximum evasion gained from constantly jumping around you're basically untouchable at medium/long range, and you can intercept and deal with the likes of Manticores before they can shoot back by exploiting initiative. That Dragon can still **** you up but good if you let him into melee range though, but I feel that's exactly how light mechs should perform. Buffing evasion is also a good idea because it helps alleviate the problem with LRMs being too good, and it also makes energy weapons more appealing because they don't need ammunition. Bulwark is no longer the be-all and end-all, and makes the choice between firing at someone or Sensor Locking them more meaningful. If such an obvious change didn't make it into the release build, either they didn't really test much themselves nor listened to those who did, or they wanted tonnage to be the only important factor—which is simply dumb. In the unmodded game mobility is not a viable defense, so there's no harassment tactics possible outside of LRM spam, which would be a natural counter to the superior numbers the game constantly throws at you. Light mechs probably could use a speed increase as well... but then we run into the problem of maps being generally too small, which leads us to the game choking and struggling badly enough as it is... etc.

Nah. I think Chris was just continuing with his "shill" routine, but in a less enraged, subtler way, after calling him a colossal poo poo head caused a disturbance in the force and millions of fanboys suddenly cried out in mild apprehension. After all, tinynickinyourmouth's comments only make sense if he's an actual Obs employee and not just shilling on his own dime after trawling through 4,400+ Codex posts. Either that or he's a complete tool, and/or possibly mentally deranged. So he's giving him the benefit of doubt, by keeping open to the possibility that he's just a guy afraid of losing his job. See, I really understand MCA, unlike the rest of you plebs (now let's see about that tattoo, Zor).

It's not that unusual for writers to descend to the level of, uh, regular human beings? They put on their trousers one leg at a time just like the rest of us. It's just that by virtue of their profession they tend to be more articulate than the average person. Vidal, Nabokov, Hemingway and others have publicly slagged authors or critics. It's a fun little exercise to imagine how some of literature's great luminaries would have conducted themselves... on the Codex. I see no evidence of that. But of course you'd say that. You sent some of your IDF buddies to assassinate the real Chris Avellone while the l33t hax0rs from the deep Codex hijacked Chris' account right on time to start dropping truth bombs in a masterfully executed operation to DESTROY dumpsterfire's release and ensure that nothing will be able to threaten the incline. We're on to you, Infinitron.

Yeah, that's not really "blonde" hair, though. Light brown under good lighting. I don't know about any conspiracies but in the current climate it was rather... harebrained of them to leave that out, while very carefully adding the option to play as blue haired female black Fu Manchu or whatever. In all likelihood there is no malice, no hidden agenda behind what is simply a crappy character generator. Anyway, quota fulfilled, moving on. Turns out if that you eject a merc that has the Ace Pilot talent, the game gets stuck and you can't progress. Yay for QA and ****. I'm starting to get real tired of games being released systematically in what amounts to a beta state. I have no one to blame but myself, I guess. If I did as Gromnir and waited at least a year before purchase, I would get games at half the price and in a decently polished state. **** this ****, I'm out. See y'all in six months.

Yeah, really though. One or two drunk posts before sleeping it off, maybe. But he's been at it for the better part of a week now. You think his liver is made of neutronium or something? This being a drink-fueled poo-slinging extravaganza is about as likely as his account having been hax0red by DarkUnderlord to troll half the internet.
-
That's pretty cool. "Beta" patch, though? That's an opt-in on Steam, I take it? I haven't installed any patches because there seems to be no standalone installer and it's all handled through CDPR's proprietary bloatware. So after much moaning and bitching about headshots, I found a simple mod that prevents head hits from automatically triggering a pilot injury if the cоckpit armor is still there, and damage is less than 4. Punches and AC/5 shots can still hurt (or kill) the pilot, but random MG rounds and LRM spam won't. I'm a happy man. Anyway, and to fulfill the daily stupid quota. I was browsing the official boards and randomly came across a thread complaining that you can't really make blond characters. I didn't catch this the first time around because I always make my characters bald badasses by default, but it turns out it's true. I don't know what's worse—that they left that option out, the reactions it triggered, or the lame moderators interjecting every other post with an obnoxious reminder to keep politics/religion/sex out of the thread and liberally editing any posts commenting on the moderation. ****ing gestapo wannabes, man.
-
Wow, you are an optimist at heart! You do a pretty good job of hiding it too. Might be different there, but over here, once stuff goes to court, it's an absolute crapshoot. Haha, good catch.
-
But judging other people is like half the fun of being in the internet. Other half being the pr0n. Well, yeah. But I just don't feel like playing into Infinitron's hands so easily, here. He's having enough fun at the Codex as it is, so I'm going to keep my shirt on for now.

Yeah, you may be misunderstanding the discussion... and maybe the context in which presumption of innocence is meant to be applied too. The burden of proof principle would serve us here if this were a court of law and it was necessary to determine someone's guilt. It isn't, and nobody is forced to take sides unless they want to. I'm not sure where do you get off demanding that MCA proves anything to you "or shut up". The man can speak as he pleases, when and where he pleases. And if the affected party believes he's causing undue damage to their image and reputation, they are within their right to defend themselves in a venue where what you're referring to would apply. Whether through insanity or righteousness, Avellone is apparently not concerned about that possibility. I don't understand how anyone would "welcome" the prospect of a protracted legal battle, but that's just me. In short: don't presume anything (neither innocence nor guilt), because you have no need to make a judgment.
-
Or maybe I am just tired of RPG Codex bringing their drama and Avellone's bile to this forum. How many times does it need to happen? You can take the man out of the Codex, but you can't take the Codex out of the man, eh?
-
Yeah, but it seems to me that you're getting a little bent out of shape, what with your previous posts and the epithets you've dedicated to Avellone. Which is why it's apparent that you have already chosen to trust one part—despite no one putting a gun to your head. I wouldn't say Avellone has done anything to prove he is untrustworthy. Unless he's been caught in an outright lie in the last few pages that I've missed, nothing is fact here so far. Just allegations on one side and silence on the other. You may not like his writing style or think that the guy is classless for airing his grievances in public, but that's not really proof that he's untrustworthy in and of itself. Not even enough to make an educated guess, really. You're of course free to believe what you will without evidence, but then it's rather hypocritical to rail against others for doing the same.
-
Ask and ye shall receive!
-
You don't "have" to trust anyone, though. That's entirely your choice.

vampire is a ****ty IP that should've been allowed to die with the '90s It did die actually. But then we got The Requiem which is worse. Careful what you wish for! I've always been more of a Demon guy myself. Don't get that many chances to channel my inner edgelord (outside of the internets, anyway).

Wait, I don't understand. If I'm going to build my folks a new house, why would I also cover the repair fees for the old one? The game also doesn't take into account my extreme charisma, and I can't choose to fight it out with the super either. Worst C&C ever, extremely railroaded. Literally unplayable, 2/10. And the lead dev's openly criticizing MCA's writing? Oh, the nerve. Product received for free

Where does it say that he lacks accounting and financial qualifications? Chris repeatedly mentioned that curtain, which I interpret as he doesn't know much at all about that. As for Feargus's wife, who's to say she didn't do some consultative work for the firm? Once again, the curtain. Chris doesn't know, but rather he frowns on the little he knew, just like lots of folks in this thread, and probably in those Codex threads as well. ITT: "Chris was an owner and part of management, so he was part of the problem!" also ITT: "Chris doesn't really know anything by his own admission, so his expressed concerns are not based on fact!" If we could at least get our speculation to be internally consistent, that would be great.

Don't feel bad. How many people can say that?
-
I may be misreading what you mean, but to have a really "fair" system—and system here also necessarily encompasses scenario design—you would need an AI that is capable of challenging a human on an even footing. That's not only probably not cost-effective in today's day and age, it's also exceedingly difficult from a practical point of view, if you consider the wide range of human ability. As an aside, the game does do a terrible job of explaining the mechanics and rules to the uninitiated. I still don't know what exactly ±1 difficulty means percentually on a to-hit roll, for instance. Is there a bonus for firing from high ground? There is apparently. Exactly how much damage do you take when performing a DFA? Is the max amount of evasion you can gain hard-capped or it depends on mech speed and piloting skill? Etc. The game doesn't come with a manual that explains the rules, which is a serious problem in a wargame, and it doesn't have an in-game encyclopedia where you can find answers either. As a finished product, it's in need of a lot of polish. I have faith that this game is simply laying the groundwork for bigger, better things down the line. Now with Paradox as their publisher, we'll have to wait and see if they take the nickel-and-dime route, or do right by fans and backers and put out some actual expansions with good value.
-
That sucks. Is that also the case in the starting systems? If what the gameplay designer said is true, early planets should have low difficulty ratings assigned to them—it stands to reason that a 1 skull mission shouldn't throw an Atlas with a company of Demolishers as "reinforcements" at you, regardless of what stage of the campaign you're at. It's a shame because if you're fighting assaults, lights and mediums (barring gimmick builds*) simply don't pack enough of a punch to be viable. Hopefully this game will be what DMS was to the Shadowrun games, and we'll see all these kinks ironed out. *max Flamer and JJ Firestarter is pretty lulzy considering how heat oblivious the AI is Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Stock configurations simply carry too much crap, and pack too little armor, so in comparison you can never fit as much in your own builds. This probably has to do with the fact that since you're outnumbered 100% of the time, you will be taking more hits than the opposition unless you abuse LRM knockdowns from BVR all the time, and therefore need more armor to survive.

It's basically 4chan but somehow even more racist and utterly convinced that the ability to play video games that are really old makes them an instant expert on any subject from literary theory to geopolitics. The user and post tags are pretty ****ing sweet though.

Hurt? Sure. Obsessed? Maybe. I wouldn't go as far as suggesting he's making anything up, because he has very little to gain from this, and potentially a lot to lose. I mean, look at this thread. The first casualty here is his rep, to many. He keeps it up, he may have to deal with legal ramifications. And regardless of his declarations with regards to "fighting evil", the only real winners here will be the lawyers if it comes to that. Or maybe he is crazy and truly believes that just a bunch of posts of his on the 'dex will be enough to destroy "the owners" (great name for a conspiracy group), but to me he doesn't come off as that unhinged.
