  1. Well in baldurs gate it decided which characters you could in a party together, or which party members stayed depending on your decisions. You couldnt do the bodhi quest with the paladin for example etc. it also influences how the story progresses, bodhi/bandit etc.. imo baldurs gate without alignment system would play way more different than baldurs gate without kill xp. Planescape on the other hand wouldnt work without alignments. Edit: That said I agree that the alignment system in D&D is the most anoying thing ever.
  2. Obsidian did not create this BB forum to be an outlet for bootlicking fanboi praise gushing. They created this Forum for FEEDBACK. Do not for a minute think that your "/thread!" retorts and tireless attempts to shut dissention up is doing them (or anyone else) any good at all. Do really think I thought for a second that my "/thread" would stop anyone from posting, my point is that we can be sure that every dev is 100% aware of your positon in this argument. They all know it. Do you really think that pointing it out in every thread in almost every post will change a thing? From my experience its more likley that people just ignore it if someone talks about the same topic over and over and over again.
  3. People are very selective about what is a "pillar of the IE" games, PoE has no alignment system which is a part of icewind dale very important in baldurs gate and a core principle in planescape torment.
  4. I would not discripe rpgCodex as the "trendy hive-mind of gaming journalism"
  5. Rpgcodex: best rpg of all time Well when the game doesn't make enough money to cover it's budget in the first year, then yeah it's definitely a flop by anyone's standard. As for the kickstarter, well it just rode the hype train that Wastelands and PoE created. If Torment was the first KS out of the gate I very much doubt it would have made even a quarter of that money. RPG Codes: Best RPG of all time IGN: Place 13 on the best rpg list Gamespot: "one of the greatest rpg's ever made" why do I even list those go to the wiki article and read the reception/awards section
  6. That game flopped hard, like commercially it was a failure. So I don't know what you are talking about. Also considered the best game by who? Just google it, the success of the tides of numeanor kickstarter success is also a good indicator for it and if commercially successfull equals quality for you than you must think the call of duty series is the best franchise ever created.
  7. You're making an awful lot of assumptions purely spawned by the fact that you disagree with me in UI Presentation. Im not talking about you im talking about people that have around 50 posts revolving around one specifc thing they disagree with but its kinda funny that you automaticaly think that I am adressing you.
  8. People don't seem to get this, in a game, gameplay rules and the story serves. Thats why a game like planescape torment is considered one of the best games ever, because of the exiting gameplay.
  9. Expressing unhappiness and behaving like a 3 year old that throws a tantrum because his momy doesnt buy him candy in the supermarket are two different things.
  10. My thoughts as well - System and UI design are my biggest issue, some gaping holes in those. I bet the same people here that constanly whine about broken things would have generated a ****storm if they would have not released something after the gamescon presentantion
  11. Dude you are one of those guys that whined some days ago that you are not able to solve quest which obviously points out that you did not even bother to read the bug thread in a BETA. You also whined about not working features like AI. Go to wiki and read what a beta is.
  12. I must say that the crowd posting here are very KS-savvy. Plenty of peeps here have backed a lot and knows quite well what that entails (usually). Even if some posts do come across as entitlement issues at times, I reckon you're barking up the wrong tree. There are individuals here, quite a few of them, that genuinely disagree with some design decisions and they voice their concerns here. That's what the forums are for, yeah? Just coping my post from the kill xp thread because it applies here as well
  13. The worst bugs in this game are the Sawyerisms that plague it. No the worst "bug" is that people like you do not seem to understand what kickstarter actually is.
  14. Some people here really need to learn what kickstarter is. It doesnt matter if you like no kill xp or not, the important thing is that you (like everyone else) invested money in a project based on faith. Thats a decision you took more than a year ago and will not change. We invested into a idea with good faith and in return the company also agreed on dealing with us in good faith. What some here dont want to understand is that we have zero control over what the company does, its something we agreed on when we signed the contract. Its a standard investment thing, like the stock market. If you chose to invest your money on the basis of this agreemment then it's your own fault if you are not mature enough to deal with the fact that the company you investet in uses its expertise to decide things in a way that you do not agree with. Even if you seriously believe that the whole game will be ruined because it has no combat XP, you've hopefully learned a important lesson about what crowdfunding is and informing yourself beforehand of the risk involved. They did a good job of making their planned game completly clear and if you did not do your research its your own fault so stop behaving like spoiled little kids. You paid them to do their job on the basis of the design documents they showed to the public. You paid professionals to do the work and like everywhere else in the world you pay them because you trust them to do a better job than you could do. Thats how it works in the capitalist enviroment in which we live in. If you cant live with the fact that a professional that you paid made a decision that you disagree with than all I can say is "welcome to the real world" because thats exactly the reason why you hire such people. /thread
  15. I guess they did that. Its something they debate since BG1. Its kinda ignorant to believe that the dev's of any game did not think stuff through, they have a reason for it. You might agree with it or not but thinking that they do stuff just for the lulz is naive.
  16. You need to fight a dire parot to get it
  17. Yes because the writing in original sin is like the best thing ever, right?
  18. Well deactivating the music in wasnt a thing in old console games so you had to
  19. I doubt (hope) that most here do not expect something with the enormous range of BG2. It was more or less a big expansion the basics were made in BG1.
  20. Yeah visiting the bug forum bevor whining would help alot
  21. It was the only turn based game in which standard trash monster encounters didnt anoy me after the first few ones.
  22. Ok I repeat myself but let me dip arrows into poison or magic potions
  23. i talk about the theme at the start screen but dunno if everyone else talks about the same.
  24. Troika made vampire bloodlines which many consider as one of the best rpg storys ever. I don't. I have a hard time getting into the Troika games. Arcanum is spectacularly crap. Imo the problems are the last levels and weak side missions. Some parts like the ghost house and the abandoned hospital are pure genius. They should have made it more adventure and less rpg.
