I teach 7th grade history, which covers all the major religions, and the jump from polytheism to monotheism. I think philosophical theory needs to be taught just as much as scientific theory about our possible roots. The problem is, as a teacher, you need to present an unbiased opinion about ALL sides. That way students can make up their mind. If you can't take a neutral stance on this issue, you shouldn't be in the classroom. On a side note, George Bush Jr. (who I typically scratch my head over) actually had a good statement about this issue. He said something to the extent that he believed all theories should be taught. Why not?

I don't think Abrams has any idea what he's doing. I think he had a plot in season 1, and now he's just making it up as he goes along. I also think he's awesome, but that's my opinion.

Cincy looks real nice on defense. They had 4 picks! I'm glad I dropped Baltimore and put them as my fantasy team.

Quest for Glory had some great tracks. The wilderness music from QFG IV was awesome, and the track they played in the Thieves Guild of the remade QFG 1.

I just went to the Sharks game and watched them beat the Ducks 6-5. It was a pretty exciting game. I saw Federov a few times, and the Sharks had their core teamout quite a bit. Oh yeah, Giguerre got lit up for 6 goals in the first 2 periods. He looks really bad, but he wasn't getting stellar defense and there were 4 powerplay goals. Those two line passes are pretty amazing too. Everything was great except my $8 cheeseburger.

Cincy should handle the Bears pretty easily, they've played tough D lately. Only upset I see is Miami over Carolina. I don't see Carolina bringing the intensity they brought to the Patriots. I want Buffalo to win also, but that will only happen if Vick is killed.

C'mon, Tkachuk looks awesome in that picture! Now he's a real power forward. If they can roll him in front of the net, the goalie won't see a thing.

Wow, y'all catch way more stuff than I do. Pretty good start to the new season!

It sounds like we are coming from the same place, HadesOne, except I don't have a PnP group, and so I'm forced to rely on MMORPG's for a social game. NWN is a bit different though, because there is a huge wealth of solid single player mods out there. The original campaign was pretty bad, but it's proven to be a very good tool. Sure, these mods are usually short in length, but that's because they are free and made by one or two people. Also, there are quite a few NWN communities that have done thier best to recreate a real PnP feel.

I don't really consider WoW in the same way as a single player game. It's a social experience for me, simply a nice looking place where I can chat with my friends. Also, when I complete a quest, or get a cool item, or reach a new level in a MMORPG there is a different sense of accomplishment. It's hard to explain, but I think it's because I can socially share those accomplishments within the actual game world. In a single player game I don't get that same feeling when I level or get a cool item. I only get that sense of accomplishment when I push the story forward, but if I feel like the story has stalled or it's just taking too long, I have the habit of giving up. I also don't have many friends to discuss these games with except online, and my wife definitely is tired of hearing about my quests to save the universe, so the story really needs to absorb me to keep me interested.

I asked him why my Grandma died and he said, "I don't know, we should get together and do something about that."

This is so cool. If I wasn't such a low level n00b, I'd be trying to spread this infection everywhere. Long live the Black Death!

Hmm...Rush Hour wasn't a total travesty...I think. It's been awhile. At least they got the cast back. Batman also stunk without Michael Keaton. I just hope they wrap up some stories. The first two movies just felt like big teasers. They were awesome, but they didn't really complete any plot lines. Then again, it's been awhile, I should rewatch them.

The Star Wars Battlefield clone? I played the closed beta...it's not as good as Battlefield 2. It really just lacks the feel of a realistic shooter. I wish it was better because I like the Star Wars setting, but it let me down.

That's pretty insulting. And yet you've made know attempt to explain Lord Tingelings post.
-
I've already explained why I made my original post. It was off-topic. Thank goodness you've shown me a shining example of how to stay on-topic Sarjahurmaaja. But at least I've been trying to explain my posts. You've just spewed insults. I've yet to hear an explanation for Lord Tingeling's Presidential post, which seemed to start this whole off-topic discussion all over again. Lord Tingeling has made some vague promise about an upcoming explanation...I guess he's trying to seem presidential.
-
He seems to be pretty much forgotten. He finally got out the game he wanted, and it wasn't spectacular. I heard it was alright, but without a story, people never bought into it. He put all his eggs in one basket, I guess.

Sarjahurmaaja. Battlewookie wrote: I seriously doubt you actually read these threads, Sarhurmaaja. My first post dealt with contrasts in the US. It was in response to Battlewookie's post. All my later posts have been about why European game developers have yet to rival US and Japanese. I'm speaking about the cultural impact of the games, so it's no use listing off quality European games. The US has made more inroads in gaming than Europe. I wrote: It's not misplaced nationalism. People bash the US all the time. I choose to defend it, just like you seem to be defending all of Europe.
-
I started this because people were bashing the US. I'm simply defending the fact that many good things come out of America, even if there is a strong conservative political bent. I also stated the US is a country of contrasts because despite the prominent right wing society, there is also a pretty strong liberal movement as well, and a ton of stuff in between. You say my argument is retarted, and yet you've made no effort to show me why that is so. Clearly I didn't get Lord Tingelings argument, so telling me to reread it is pretty worthless. Perhaps YOU should be the one to go back and read the threads.

Blizzard North was located in Northern California. I'm not sure if that is really Europe, although, Santa Cruz is a bit out there. I agree that Rockstar North, which originally developed Lemmings and is based in Scotland, is an outstanding developer. But you still aren't listing enough to challenge the US in terms of PC developed games. Madden sells huge. It doesn't matter that it doesn't sell huge internationally. It makes a ton of money.
-
Uh, Madden sells crazy numbers. It brings an entirely different audience to video games. Don't bad talk Madden, he will eat you.

I actually really like the term Hurlshotian logic. I plan on using it often. My point is, I'm not saying there aren't many games coming out of Europe, I'm saying there aren't as many major games coming out of Europe in comparison to the US. Each year there are maybe 6-12 major games that come out. I don't just mean big budget titles, but games that sell well and are able to capture the attention of the media. You can go ahead and name a few important European titles, but the fact is the US and Japan dominate this. You haven't given me anything that compared to the impact of Doom, Ultima, Madden, Half-Life, Fallout, Warcraft, Command and Conquer, Kings Quest, GTA...the list goes on. Tomb Raider is the only one you've mentioned that really captured that upper platform of gaming.
-
What the heck does that even mean? Is there some relation between videogames and Presidents? Ok, how about more Hurlshotian logic...can you name 6 or 7 presidents from any other countries?

Pirates was a lot of fun. You definitely have to dig the pirating lifestyle. It's a light adventure and it's definitely replayable. I only played the PC version. Also, if you played the old Pirates, it really is the same game with new technology. That's not a bad thing in my eyes. I wish they'd do that for Xcom as well. I've never played a game in it's entirety and felt it was a waste of money, but I don't have a great attention span. I only feel like I wasted my money when a game fails to hold my interest. I'm glad to hear Fareinhiet was good. It's an adventure game, so you're pretty much guaranteed a shorter game.

NHL Preseason is a pretty good indicator for how the season is going to go. There are more penalties called and a few more prospects on the ice, but it's pretty intense. Also, these guys haven't played for awhile, and they are rearing to go.
