  1. The Reno 911 movie. It was surprisingly funny. If you are even somewhat a fan of the show, you should go see it. It's also pretty graphic.
  2. Here's a couple answers: http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl-pluck-yew.htm You know, you could do your own research on this stuff.
  3. Looks like this is the end...
  4. Those are very sensible options Diamond, but the fact is many 13 year old kids don't have that type of common sense. Also, a lot of bullying takes place on blogs like Myspace. Now even if the victim doesn't have a Myspace site, it's still psychologically debillitating to know that someone's website has slanderous things about you on it. For example, I went to a website a couple years back called ratemyteacher.com. Most of the comments were favorable, but there was one that really got under my skin, even as an adult. The student had referred to me as a "glorified copy machine". My solution to that problem was to avoid the website and make a few less copies, but a 13-year old kid probably won't make that decision, and just the knowledge that they are the target of such comments is a serious blow.
  5. What do you mean by bull? I understand you weren't advocating school shootings, but that is an unfortunate end result in some of these situations. I totally agree that students should defend themselves and their classmates. If every child took a stand against bullying, their wouldn't be any bullies out there. But that isn't reality. The reality is that there are kids who go to school every day absolutely terrified about being picked on, and it doesn't even have to be physical. The whole cyberbullying is just another aspect of this, and it should be something that adults are aware of, whether they are parents, school administrators, or law enforcement. I can tell you what the typical classroom looks like. You might have 1 kid very capable of bullying in a classroom of 30. He or she probably is picked on by a parent or an older sibling. He or she probably has a 2 friends who will follow him or her around all the time because that way they avoid getting bullied themselves. Then you have one kid who doesn't quite fit in. He or she might have acne or be overweight, or might just be different than other kids. It doesn't matter what the difference is, that bully will find it and exploit it. So this different kid...why doesn't he just defend himself? Maybe he did once and got beat down, maybe he just doesn't have a confidence. It doesn't matter, the real issue is that the 26 other students aren't doing anything to help the poor kid. Those are the kids who can make a change, but it's not going to happen unless they are called out. Anyways, I know I'm ranting here, but it's late and these are issues I have to try and solve every frickin' day. So quit acting like it's some easy cure "just defend yourself" answer.
  6. Many of these kids do eventually hit back, as a few are suggesting they do. http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0777958.html
  7. Well, I hope they treat it less like a frenetic combat shooter and more like a space combat simulator (I know, that sounds odd). But the great thing about the early WC games and the X-Wing/Tie Fighter series was the strategy involved in flying a spacecraft. It wasn't just point and fire.
  8. The whole reason schools need to be involved in cyberbullying as that it always, and I mean ALWAYS, spills into the school grounds. Does anyone else here work with 12-14 year old kids? They are emotionally all over the place. Try to think back to when you were that age, it was probably not the easiest time in your life. Just removing kids from the internet is not the answer Arkan. Just like homeschooling, taking your kid away from that entire social structure will only make it harder for them to adjust when they leave home. The internet is a huge part of our daily lives, and keeping a kid away from it will only serve to isolate them. Basically you are exchanging the "I'm being picked on" tag for a "I'm completely ignored by my peers" tag. Neither one is good. Now the best thing would be to have actual active parents who know what their children are doing, but those who live in reality know that will never happen. I've been teaching for awhile, and even in the best schools, only about 20% of the parents have a clue what their children are doing. I'm not saying I know some magic answer for cyberbullying, any more than I do for regular bullying. But at least this legislation attempts to address the problem. I know my school has been tackling cyberbullying for that last few years, and I spend about a week focusing strictly on bullying. Sure, a week of classtime is extremely difficult considering the massive amount of content I'm supposed to cover, but if it helps even one kid stand up against bullying, it's worth it. edit: Do you think Columbine happens if there is no bullying at that school?
  9. Are you kidding? Nowadays that's the same as telling a kid who is bullied to stop going to school. It's not a realistic option. There is this myth that everything you do on the internet is anonymous, and some immature folks think that means they can be total asshats. I'd love to see those folks suddenly be accountable for their behavior.
  10. Gosh, I finish very few games. I'd say for every 10 games I play, I finish one. I'd say adventure games are the only ones I tend to usually finish, and that's pretty much a dead genre. Here's a few: Quest for Glory V - Why did I finish all the others and not this one? Because it was bad. Baldur's Gate 2 - 2 frickin' long. Every JRPG except Secret of Mana and FFIV -Always hit a brick wall boss that meant I needed to go level. I don't grind. Every Elder Scrolls game - They have endings? Wouldn't that require a plot? NWN1 - *snore* Arcanum - Not sure what happened...I think I got confused about my goal in life. Any action-RPG after Diablo - I clicked enough in Diablo to not need to ever click again. PS: Torment - There was a lot of reading, and again...what is my goal here? I'm dead? Games I'm thankful I finished - Deus Ex, Quest for Glory IV, KotOR, Fallout, BG, JA 1 and 2, Xcom 1, Kings Quest 5, Space Quest 3.
  11. Still playing Vanguard...I'm actually at 4 days, 8 hours of playing. I'm level 15 as a Ranger, which is a good place to be, as I can explore all sorts of great areas. I've also been working hard to craft myself some decent arrows. I'm currently a level 13 carpenter, but I think at 14 I'll be able to make decent arrows and get back to adventuring full time. Crafting is frustrating, but the rewards are awesome and it's somewhat addicting. There's an aweful lot more strategy behind it than any game I've played.
  12. I call balderdash.
  13. I think this poll needs more options. Does fantasy have to stand for medieval? What about a low magic medieval settings? Honestly I like any good RPG, regardless of the setting, but I'd like to see a few more futuristic settings.
  14. I get that same thing whenever I end up sleeping on my stomache. I start feeling like I can't breathe well, and I'm not able to lift myself up. I have to kick my legs out until my wife wakes me up fully, allowing me to turn over. It's really odd, I know I'm not going to suffocate, but I just feel terribly helpless.
  15. The Gollop brothers have a game called Laser Squad Nemesis that is play by email. It's a pretty solid tactical game, and they have competitive ladders and all that. I recently got an email about an update, but the play by email thing isn't my cup of tea. It seems to be the only thing they are doing.
  16. My guess is it won't be TB.
  17. You know, right now I'm working hard in a MMO to reach a certain crafting level. It's frustrating and tedious, as well as a bit buggy. But if it were easy and quick, I would not have a sense of accomplishment at the end. Eventually I'll reach a point where the sense of accomplishment isn't worth the work, and that's when I'll stop playing. I'm not sure what the big problem is.

I'm a bit concerned about the Forsberg trade, as he's a pain to play against and I was enjoying him being on the Eastern board. Still, this might hurt Nashville, as they gave up a solid player for one who may get injured at any time.
  19. My favorite part of RPG's are when I start out as a barely experienced noobling. Once I become uber, I become bored. The problem is I'm so powerful in real life, that I really enjoy the fantasy of struggling to kill rats and large insects.
  20. I just bought a widescreen LCD monitor and found out that BF 2142 doesn't support it. They have sai it creates an unfair advantage. That's insane, and I'm very disappointed.
  21. Rage Against the Machine is also reuniting.

Hmm...bit odd that Phoenix sent Nagy to a divisional rival. I guess they don't think he's enough of a threat.

Stuart is a bit hot and cold, but he has the ability to be a premier point scoring defenseman. Primeau also is a very solid defensive player. It's funny how Darryl Sutter is basically bringing in all his old players from the Sharks.

  25. I think it's very important to play the game through without the 1.13 mod first. This is just my opinion, but the difficulty of 1.13 may put off folks who don't have much JA experience. Plus, it is buggy. I enjoyed it tremendously for a few weeks and I love that it gave me a new JA fix. However I did hit a few game stopping bugs. For a first time play through, it's nice to be able to carry the campaign through to completion. There's no satisfaction quite like the first tme you hit Diedrianna with a head shot. It's a bummer that the Steam copies are buggy.
