Congressman wants to use the Qur'an when sworn in
Hurlshort replied to julianw's topic in Way Off-Topic
I'm not doubting your source, but when I compare their translations with the ones I have in my handy dandy English translation of the Qu'ran, I'm getting a vastly different story. Maybe I'm not reading it right, I'm no religious scholar. -
I doubt that, more because the scale of this game seems relatively small than any programming talent. Unless this one guy was responsible for all the coding at Troika, I don't think he deserves being labelled yet.

There is nothing in the basic tenants of Christianity or Islam that promotes violence in any way. You can't find a passage in the Qu'ran that says it's alright to kill non-believers. The Bible is the same way. They are good books, and they are about living a good life. The lessons within the pages are about charity, prayer, and faith. The problem with religions in general has to do with leadership. Both Christianity and Islam have had leaders that call for violence in the name of their religion. When you actually compare the religions side by side, it's amazing how similiar they are and how similiar their struggles have been. Everyone acts like Christianity is so peaceful, but in actuality it's just had more time to work out its differences. Islam is a younger gospel, but the violence between Shi'ites and Sunni's is very reminiscent of violence between Protestants and Catholics. It lasted for hundreds of years in Europe. -
Is this question for the developers? I doubt they know at this point. They haven't even officially announced a new title, and you won't see NWN2 or KotOR2 on the PS3.

Turn-based, excellent. Looks like it's a long ways off, but I'll keep an eye on it.

Hmm...the only part I like is the fact that we'll be playing every team at least once a season. I'm not a big fan of the current schedule.

I'm a big fan of separation of church and state, but I'm also very respectful of the symbolic nature that any holy book, whether it's the bible, torah, or Qur'an, has in our society. I expect my elected officials to respect the nature of those books whether they believe in God or not. Those books aren't just about religion, they are a foundation for living a humble and charitable life. -
All in all, I'd say the third is my favorite. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Someone should tell that guy that Quadrilogy isn't really the proper term, tetralogy refers to four related works. I've seen it used before in the media, and it's always bugged me. Taking the word trilogy and slapping a quad in place of the T is bad latin.

The only communities I've found that didn't have a good chunk of lamers are closed ones on NWN. The great thing is that in most of these games, turning off general chat is not that difficult. Cantousent is right about the fact that the people you play with make the game. I played Lineage 2 for awhile simply because I had a good guild, even though the game had lost its magic for me.

Diablo is not a free online game. You pay $50 for the product. That helps to guarantee the quality of the product, even if the player base is terrible. I'm not sure about Silk Road, but I'm usually disappointed by free games. Of course, I compare them to WoW, and that's a bad idea.

That's epic funny.

I enjoyed it 5 years ago. I'm not sure how well it aged though.

If the robot can sue for rights, that puts it above animals. My cat is terrible at paperwork, and so I'm not too worried about a lawsuit if her litter gets a bit back up.

Gamespot awards NWN2 for Best Story in 2006

I would have agreed with that when I was 14 years old. Now I expect more from my games. -
"Apocalypto" Wow, this is definitely a movie you HAVE to see in a theater to fully appreciate. Now let me preface by saying that I question a good deal of the history. This can often ruin movies for me, as I'm a stickler for accuracy. But the fact is this movie is told like an epic legend and, much like Braveheart, the history is forgivable in the name of story. This is a visually stunning movie that may be worth the price of admission based solely on that, but it's also a great action piece with a wonderful hero. I highly recommend this one.

I was bored by Oblivion. It was beautiful and it entertained me for awhile, but after closing a few Oblivion gates, I quit. I wasn't engaged by any NPC's, and I didn't chuckle over a single line of dialogue. There weren't any surprising moments. It was a shallow game to me. NWN2 engaged me a great deal. Sure, I had technical problems and a few bugs, but they weren't enough for me to stop playing. I enjoyed some NPC's, and enjoyed hating some NPC's. It wasn't until the 3rd act that I actually hit a wall, and that's more due to difficulty and my lousy high level D&D skills. There was actually a gut wrenching moment in the game. I won't judge Gothic 3, but there are very few positive words about it in the media. I enjoyed the demo, but again, I felt like it's a bit more like Oblivion. Sure, it seemed non-linear, but I think I prefer an organized story and central characters in my RPG's. -
I don't know, 24% is still a pretty crappy number. Castration seems like the healthiest alternative, and I'm not talking the pansy chemical kind either. Of course, that won't work for all sexual offenders, and obviously there are exceptions (example, the 18-year old boy who is accused of statuatory rape by the parents of his younger girlfriend.) Even the extremely low 1.8% looks badly when you have thousands of prisoners going out on parole every year.

Gamespy did the game of the year stuff. They only have the PC section up right now. I'd give a link but, eh, you can find it yourselves. It was pretty reasonable. Khelgar got best NPC. -
Well, prostitution is legal in Nevada, which is a state over. I recommend you all watch the series "Cathouse" for further research. You know, in the name of science and all.

The trouble is that morality has many different interpretations, whereas survival is very cut and dry.

The Postman is actually my favorite Post-Apoc. movie of all time. People tend to bash it more because it came out around the time of Waterworld than based on its own merits.

Heh, that's such a guy thing to say. Seriously, there might be a few well-balanced prostitutes out there, but the vast majority have major mental health issues. I've spent many years listening to Howard Stern, and the majority of Porn Stars and Strippers that he interviews had some messed up incident in their childhood. Girls with good parents don't grow up to be prostitutes.

I'm taking this question as a kind of "Would you risk your life for the right cause." For example, if a guy runs into a building and starts shooting, and you happen to be close, do you go for the tackle or do you run for your life? I hope I'd have the courage to try and take the gunman out. I'd rather die trying than live with the idea I could have saved someone's life.

I'm playing Gears of War. I played the campaign for a bit, and it seemed solid enough. I hope it's not too long, because I tend to lose interest in shooting stuff over and over and over again. I also played the MP for a bit, and that was a blast. It's a pretty quick game and there's a decent bit of strategy. I went 2-10, so I have a lot to learn. At least I got to chainsaw one guy.
