  1. Yeah, what happened there? First Oakland, now Cleveland?
  2. My view on Alistair leaving was:
  3. I thought T3 was worth it just because they actually went through with the apocalypse. Up until the end, I wasn't sure if they were really going to let it happen.
  4. That's all I'm interested in. This is why women in the Islamic world wear hajib, by the way. Oddly enough, I almost posted the same comment. Oh man, I'm becoming LoF!
  5. I've always subscribed to the line that communism is a fantastic idea in theory, but is impossible to realistically implement. Kind of like the society from The Giver.
  6. I just booked a spot in Marin for our RV for the week after Christmas. We are going to take the ferry over to SF and visit a few places, the Aquarium of the Bay being one of them.
  7. Agreed, the voice acting is horrid, and the radiant conversation (or whatever it was called) was lame. That is less bad writing and more bad design. The problem is they tried to create a dynamic world where NPC's had unscripted conversations with each other. It was an ambitious goal, but it was a failure and they should have cut it out.
  8. I agree. Although the DLC for FO3 was quite poor in execution as well ( I thought). Quite different from the core game. Decent, my @ss! Bethesda has got a lot of work to do until they reach decent. Dialogues in FO3 feel like they've been written by a 12 year old kid. I don't really disagree. My only point of contention would be that relative to Oblivion, there has been improvement in the writing in FO3. QUite a large amount of improvement, actually, imo. Is that more a testament to the true awfulness of the writing in Oblivion? Probably. But still, improvement is improvement. I disagree. I read 12-year old kid's writing all the time, and Fallout 3 is much better than theirs. But again, this is all subjective opinions. The writing was functional, it got you from point A to point B. Sure, I would like them to keep improving their writing, I doubt Bethesda is saying to themselves 'our writing is as good as it ever needs to be!' They have already shown a commitment to improving that aspect of their game design. If it isn't improving enough for you, then stop buying their games. I also think the ending would have been fine if they would have let you send your super mutant buddy into the chamber. Just that one change would have salvaged the entire ending for me. It was a dumb decision by the designers. It didn't have anything to do with writing, it was just a bad call. They obviously thought about it, given the mutant had a whole "you need to do this yourself' speech.
  9. Played a bit of Doom 3, it really hasn't aged well though.
  10. Learned your lesson hopefully. You gotta keep your head down son, otherwise you get nailed by the hammer of society. Not to mention the entire thing was relatively trivial and the outcome predictable. I know. Still, people gotta stand up for what they think was right or the status quo will never change. I understand your concerns here, but you might want to also look at it from the point of the view of the dean and the teacher. Did you expect him to just fire her because of a couple student complaints? She has probably worked hard and put in a lot of years to get into a college level position. It would be pretty messed up if she just lost it all because you didn't like her teaching style. This is one class for you, it will be forgotten by next semester, but this one class is her entire career.
  11. The DA book wasn't about a blight at all, in fact the Darkspawn were barely mentioned in it. I'm guessing we will be introduced to a new area like Orlais in a sequel and there will be a lot less darkspawn content.
  12. Funny People - Interesting comedy, very difference performance from Seth Rogan. I liked it, it was a bit uncomfortable but still funny most of the time. The Proposal - Given my man-crush on Ryan Reynolds, this was a lot of fun to watch. Basic romantic comedy fodder, but that's not really a bad thing.
  13. Yesterday while working Saturday School, I saw a kid with a Trapper Keeper. I didn't know they still made those!
  14. I loaded up The Movies by Lionhead studios on a whim. About 4 years ago I got it for Christmas and played it for 8 hours straight, and then never touched it again. I don't really know why, it's a charming game.
  15. Can you even get a decent sized bed into that house? It's actually bigger than my condo (which we overpaid $355,000 for) but the space must be an utter hassle to work with.
  16. No love for the Niners against the Seahawks?
  17. Oddly enough, grossly oblivious is how I would describe your reading comprehension.
  18. I finished Fallout a couple months ago for the second time and I wasn't knocked over by the writing. It was functional most of the time and creative on occasion. I'd say it was better than Fallout 3, but there were a few bothersome issues, like a lack of change in NPC reactions when I just did something big. The problem here is this is extremely subjective. For every person that yells "Fallout 3 has the worst writing evar!" you can probably find another who says it is good. All I'm saying is it was functional. It got the job done. It explained the story. Frankly thats all it needed to do for me, because I was really playing to enjoy the sandbox elements, explore the wasteland, and find neat trinkets.
  19. Like DLCs that refuse to start? You played the DLC's? I'm a fan of the game, but I never actually contemplated getting the DLC. I played it for a few weeks, finished it, and moved on.
  20. I think we would need a sample size to really figure out if it is 'peppered' with errors. As you said, it has twice the errors of an encyclopedia set. Now if an encyclopedia has 50 error per entry then of course 100 errors per entry in wiki is terrible. But if it is more reasonable, like 1 or two errors in the encyclopedia and 2-4 errors per wiki entry, then that is less 'peppery' Frankly I'd be surprised if it was that high. It is probably more like 1 error per 5 entries in the encyclopedia.
  21. True, avarage writing quality isn't that great when it comes to games, but I have to say F3 has the worst I have personally ever seen. I fight the good fight with my voice! [intelligence] Ah, so you fight the good fight with your voice, eh? I can see that you are very smart. But that's the risk a developer runs when giving alternate lines of dialogue. It isn't an issue books and movies have to deal with, it's a very complicated style of game to create. There are going to be missteps. I'm not sure where it is so bad that it would ruin the experience, it is clumsy, but I'll take that over major bugs any day.
  22. It's a little hard to get upset about Fallout 3 writing when the rest of the industry is at the same level. It is functional writing. I'm not sure why you folks expect more than that, there are probably less than a dozen games that have had excellent writing ever.
  23. That's why I referred to it as a 'research platform'. I would not use an encyclopedia or wikipedia in a college level course as a source myself. As for wikipedia having twice the errors, there is a trade off there. Wikipedia tends to be more current (particularly if you are relying on hard bound encyclopedia's) and it covers a bigger spectrum of subjects in greater detail.
  24. Yeah, I'm a white heterosexual male, and that doesn't really appeal to me. I'd rather have equality and opportunity for all. I know we are still not there, but we are a heck of a lot closer than we were 60 years ago.
  25. I thought Tigranes was pretty tame in his judgement of Oblivion. At least he didn't call it AIDS or syphilis.
