  1. You have two statements there: "There is little to nothing wrong with our world" - Nobody is claiming that. "It's better than ever" - It quite clearly is. These statements do not need to be connected.
  2. I wouldn't bother Keyrock, we go through this a lot in the NHL thread.
  3. I always enjoyed the Vegas CSI, but Miami looked terrible fromt he start and I never even bothered with New York.
  4. I'm really enjoying Assassin's Creed 3. I remember people complaining about there not being enough to do on the frontier, but I'm having a blast running around. Although I fall out of tree a lot. Like I've died more falling out of trees than doing anything else. In fact it's not even close, I've died once from a wolf, twice in fights, and a dozen times tumbling through branches.
  5. I ate something bad last night and have lived on the toilet for much of the day. Ugh.
  6. Hah, I've been totally addicted to Rogue Legacy lately. It's brutal, I die all the time, but I finally beat my first boss and I'm starting to actually survive a bit longer than a couple minutes.
  7. There is a decent chance that InXile is going to screw up the combat. So I'd rather have it over with fast in real time than drawn out TB. But maybe they'll get it right?
  8. Junior High's, or Middle Schools, exist in most of the US, but I guess they only have them in certain provinces in Canada. Even in the US there are still many elementary schools that go k-8, but they are typically magnets or offer something unique. What is grade 13?
  9. Are you referring to the death of an icon, or the classy response by Cultist?
  10. My wife is a former fitness instructor, and she agrees with about Crossfit being a fairly dangerous activity. She also complains about those Tough Mudder events.
  11. I've been keeping it simple and just running a mile a day, doing push ups and situps at work, and stretching regularly. I've been doing this about 5 times a week for the last few months and I feel a lot better than I did before I started. It isn't going to change me terribly, but at my age I'm more concerned with not losing ground. I still play hockey once a week and that has been going better since I started running.
  12. The problem is the numbers in Final Fantasy vary depending on the country. I'm pretty sure FFIV is something different in Japan.
  13. Looking back on the 20th century, we had some amazing Civil Rights activists. It will be interesting to see who rises to the occasion in the 21st Century. It will be even more amazing when we no longer need them. So far in the 21st Century the only impressive activist I've seen has been Malala Yousafzai.
  14. I decent bra will do the trick, but she could use some more muscle for sure.
  15. Did they really fix Fallout 3's ending with DLC? I never bought any of that stuff. I agree on Mass Effect, it would be pretty confusing to start ME3 without playing that last DLC. That being said, it was clearly taking part after the main story arc of 2.
  16. So what happens to the pupil in this case, I know they will get a good beating but what else ? This student is fairly new to the country, so I sat him down and explained what his expectations are and how he needs to go about fixing it. I'm also going to contact the parents and set up a conference, since there are other issues involved. In 7th grade it is more about developing good habits than being punitive. They'll get enough of that in High School.
  17. How so? Dragon Age released a full expansion. None of the DLC really impacted the story of the main games.
  18. maps/cars/weapons/skins are all the definition of superficial fluff. It doesn't affect my playthrough of a game in any way to not have those things. The people responsible for this are the consumers, by the way. If no one bought the first horse armor when it came out in Oblivion, we wouldn't have this trend. It is driven completely by consumer demand.
  19. Today a student emailed me an essay they had 'written' and it still had the hyperlinks active that took me to the place they plagiarized it from. Lovely.
  20. They changed that much ? I wouldn't really say changed. By supercharged I mean they added to the depth of the game. More to do with your troops, more to build, more unique missions.
  21. I am wondering if this is still true, though. Because I can't remember when I played a game the last time that required a dlc for more information on the main story or something like this. Some games have pre-order dlc which add to the games content, but this is most of the time just minimal stuff that probably could be ignored easily as well. Like the pretty useless armor pre-order dlcs from New Vegas, etc. Exactly. It is true that expansions are nearly dead, but they've been replaced by full length sequels developed as quickly as possible instead. That's what you see happening with Assassin's Creed and Saint's Row games. Most DLC is fluff, and the low prices reflect that. They are for people who like fluff. Mass Effect is literally the only game that put out relevant story DLC's, everything else can be skipped without missing a thing. Also the Xcom EXPANSION is phenomenal. It takes the base game and completely supercharges it.
  22. It's a roguelike so luck is intended to be a big factor and the game is weighted towards being difficult/neigh impossible. The idea is to create replayability, tension, a greater sense of accomplishment when you win and a much bigger sense of reward when something good happens. In this case that involves what ways you can equip your ship. If you're always getting murderized by the scouts then you need a rough idea of what changes you need to make to your ship to survive them and also beat the last boss and then spend every playthrough working towards that. I know that's obvious and probably sounds snarky but that is the core element of the genre of game you're playing and it's supposed to be that frustraiting. It's why I don't play FTL much . No no, I get it, I have experience with roguelikes. But consistently, over six playthroughs, I have gone through the game without trouble and getting fully upgraded. For example, on my last ship, I had good weapons, good drone systems, stealth, full shields, upgraded engines, enough crew to have expendables and more than enough resources. In the second to last area, I could pretty much kill any enemy I came across in one or two volleys. Then in the end game, the first enemy I encounter gets me or turns me into a limping wreck. I find it hard to believe that six times I have had luck throughout the entire game and bad luck in the end. Just seems like the difficulty curve is terribly balanced. It makes trying again seem kinda pointless. Sorry for making assumptions. I did find this, it won't help against the scouts (although Deraldin's advice probably will do the trick) but it has a lot of very detailed information on the final boss, full of spoilers though. Holy moly, I'm never going to defeat the end boss. I've never even made it past the 1st stage!
  23. I just picked up Assassin's Creed IV on Amazon for $30, seemed like a pretty good deal for a brand new game. It is only on sale for 1 day.
  24. The most important thing to get in FTL is that radar thingamajig that tells you what is at all the jump points. That being said, I've died on the final boss every time I've made it to the end, so what do I know?
  25. Not when trolls are on the loose. I think I've got it. Wals is a city planner.
