  1. You mean "chosen one" similarities? Except for that I don't see too many (except for futuristic settings) that coincide with SW .. But then again its some time ago since I read Frank's masterpiece .. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh, it's nothing. A lot of people go to some extreme lengths to prove that Star Wars was a complete rip-off of Dune. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> hmm .. heard about it, but never really found it to have much merit .. of course GL borrowed some Sci-fi and Fantasy themes, but to call it a rip-off seems a bit harsh imo ..
  2. what is so annoying? a couple of words on your computer? Im not making you click on my thread. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> no but you are pushing the more interesting topics away ..
  3. exactly .. my instincts tell me that they won't play any importance in TSL, but they really should, since their technology would be very interesting from a Sith point of view .. Ships only they could command etc.
  4. im kinda lost, would you explain that again? The Rakata is an ancient race, and probably with alot of hidden secrets on their planet .. as Laozi mentioned mostly powered by the dark side .. and the force in general! They once "owned" most of the galaxy .. and now they have been rediscovered, what importance will this play in KOTOR2 ?
  5. well its pretty annoying if everyone post the same thing every second day, simply because they didn't bother to go back a few pages ..
  6. If you went LS .. The "party" for the liberation of the galaxy took place on the Rakatan homeworld .. So now they are probably well known through out the galaxy or at least to those who attended the final celebration! perhaps this will mean the Rakata will be reintroduced to the galactic scene.. And I wonder what consequences that will have? and if it will have any impact on KOTOR 2 .. it must be of some importance that you suddenly discover the history of an older galactic empire and their technology .. perhaps even a deeper understanding of The Force since The Rakata seemed to use it pretty extensively in their technology ..

  8. yeah it was a bit corny .. and I never said otherwise!
  9. if she is the 3rd sith lord she obviously doesn't want Sion to recognize her while the PC and the others witness it .. So if he shows up early she goes to have a little chat with him .. If she is his master, and make him back off and look like she saved the day! but I don't think she is, it would be to corny imo!
  10. I will probably go with Sentinel/master on my first playthrough .. since, as many others have noticed, skills will be a little more usefull this time around! and probably with high intelligence and wisdom, because I like to use wits instead of Lightsabers .. And my next I will go Consular/Sith Lord .. and then the other classes until I have tried every combination!
  11. I still don't have DVD drive .. although as soon as the majority of games get released on DVD I will purchase one! but I support that its released on both DVD and CD .. ps the argument that it will cut down on piracy doesn't make any sense .. because now you just have to rip 2 dvds instead of 4-5 cds.
  12. Yes, only Lucas chose to portrait only the 'positive' side of samurai culture, if there was any at all. He didn't use as an inspiration the constant political intrigues in which samurai warlords were involved, and he certainly didn't consider the state of quasi-slavery that ruled feudal Japan, whose pinnacle were the samurai. In fact all that would apply much better to the Sith... About the swords, samurai would only get down to swordfighting as a last resort. A samurai's basic skill was supposed to be marksmanship, and they relied heavily on lances, a much more efficient weapon for mounted knights. Their swords were more of a symbol than anything else. I believe the word samurai itself has something to do with either 'rider' or 'archer', I just can't remember how exactly. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Since Wikipedia explains it perfectly .. I will quote them: Samurai is a common term for a warrior in pre-industrial Japan. A more appropriate term is bushi (lit. "arms-man") which came into use during the Edo period. However, the term "samurai" now usually refers to warrior nobility, not, for example, ashigaru or foot soldiers. A samurai with no attachment to a clan or daimyo was called a ronin (lit. "wave-man"). Samurai were expected to be cultured and literate, and over time, samurai during the Tokugawa era gradually lost their military function. By the end of the Tokugawa era, samurai were civilian bureaucrats for the daimyo, with their swords serving only ceremonial purposes. With the Meiji reforms in the late 19th century, the samurai class was abolished, and a western-style national army was established. The strict samurai code called bushido still survives, however, in present-day Japanese society, as do many other aspects of their way of life. Etymology: The word samurai has origins in the pre-Heian period, being derived from the classical Japanese verb saburau, meaning to serve or attend. It was not until the early modern period, namely the Azuchi-Momoyama period and early Edo period of the late 16th and early 17th centuries that the word saburai became replaced with samurai. However, by then, the meaning had already long before changed. During the era of the rule of the samurai, the earlier term yumitori (
  13. well .. they still exist, and if they are intented or not doesn't really matter! because this thread was about was inspired the different cultures, races, themes etc of SW .. Maybe GL thought it was cool, but this doesn't neglect the fact that the parallels does exist! it was not at effort to praise Georges creative genius .. but to give an understanding of the Universe through the inspirations of the existing myths it draws its meaning from (and the sources) .. when he created the Jedi on the samurai, one will also better understand the Samurai if you are inspired to read about them through SW .. And this was actually the meaning of this thread .. to inspire people to search, think and draw parallels to develop their understanding of Earth mythology! through a universe which already held their interest ..
  14. the point is .. why would we revisit the places?? the first being the cave on Korriban now we can perhaps crawl out on the surface, in the old game it just said that and endless field of rocks or something .. and why would we revisit Naga Sadows tomb unless there is something important there? if it is the tomb .. And I guess he wants to hear your thoughts on why we would revisit them ..
  15. it depends on what you want I guess .. Demolition and Security will get you access to hidden areas or shortcuts and what have you .. Intelligence, charisma, wisdom, awarness and persuade will help in dialouge options and unlock information .. perhaps this is most story related? its quite logical what each skill and attribute will help with .. But it depends if you want to talk your way through or blow your way through! both is story related I guess..
  16. that would be a great skill to have irl .. I can't set my VCR ..
  17. now that would be stomach turning evil actually .. but more true DS .. although I think few people would be comfortable playing that kind of twisted sick! and I fear those who will .. not to mention that it would be banned in most countries!
  18. the game mechanics doesn't allow you to slice open broken/melted doors .. even though there is no need from a logical point of view .. But you are a fan of diverse gameplay! I thought you would be happy to see the need for Jedis diminished?
  19. because we are connected to Europe through Jutland .. I don't know, I would say from a geographical point of view we belong in the equation just as well! since Sj
  20. Obviously you are much wiser than I am in this matter and it's better that I will not argue with you anymore. :"> Peace and love! :D sorry didn't mean to flame.. I actually became mad! strange.. must be very proud of my scandinavian ancestry.. but no offence taken! In all honesty Denmark is easy to overlook ..
  21. yeah, but all great stories follows this form actually .. the simple form is "from childhood through errors and mistakes to adulthood"
  22. What do you mean by "you guys"? Yes, we were once a "part of Sweden" But no, we haven't been even close to extinguishing. Nope. Sweden and Norway are Scandinavian countries because the Scandinavian mountains (=Skandit in Finnish) are between Norway and Sweden. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Scandinavia is the cultural and historic region of the Scandinavian Peninsula. The Scandinavian countries are Norway, Sweden and Denmark, which mutually recognize each other as parts of Scandinavia. The collective label "Scandinavia" reflects the cultural similarity between these countries despite their political independence. The terms Fennoscandia and Fenno-Scandinavia are sometimes used for an extended region. The usage and meaning of the term outside Scandinavia is somewhat ambiguous: Finland and Iceland are many times counted as parts of Scandinavia. In a German mindset, Norway, Sweden and Finland are usually included, but Denmark is not. In a British mindset, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark are usually included, often with the addition of Iceland and Finland. These alternative meanings are considered incorrect in the local languages, and occasionally some people may take offense by such usage in English. The term the Nordic countries is used unambiguously for the Scandinavian kingdoms of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and the republics of Finland and Iceland. The terms Fennoscandia and Fenno-Scandinavia may either be used to include the Scandinavian peninsula, the Kola peninsula, Karelia and Finland under the same term alluding to the Fennoscandian Shield, or they may be used in a more cultural sense, more or less as a synonyme for the Nordic countries, to signify the historically close contact between Finnic, Sami and Scandinavian peoples and cultures. Outside of Europe, the Netherlands are sometimes mistakenly considered Scandinavian as well. The reason for this seems to be confusion with Denmark; both are small Teutonic countries bordering the North Sea, and the adjectives Dutch and Danish are a bit alike. from Wikipedia read this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scandinavia I really guarantee that Denmark is part of scandinavia .. You must be thinking of something else! because all of the 6 million people in our country consider themselves scandinavian!! and don't tell me you know better than the entire population of Denmark .. + everyone in Norway and Sweden count Denmark as part of the group as well..
  23. Thats more or less what I'm trying to say. What people are asking for here (temptation) isn't exactly easy to pull off in a non-petty way for every little quest. Lets face it, those little quest add up. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> okay let me rephrase then .. I wan't better temptations that will lead me to the dark side things that anger him etc .. one point at the time! until I can justify (from a Roleplaying perspective) why my character would finally sucumb to the Dark Side ..
  24. not us .. maybe Sweden .. they occupied Finland once..
  25. Actually only Sweden and Norway are to be considered Scandinavian countries. (Sorry for being a smart-ass ) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> eh .. no .. Denmark is ceartinly part of scandinavia.. sorry for being a smart-ass! its not my fault your not part of our fellowship! :D
