  1. I thought they were going for an Atlantis'ish ending - to give a slight nod at the many myths about a powerful and ancient civilization. I guess they "had" to do it this way, to tie the story with modern history. All in all I really enjoyed the ending, reminded me a bit of Babylon 5 (emotionally anyway) - and I'm a little sad that it's over, but glad that it had a good/proper ending. It's funny how you get invested in these kind of things...
  2. I know that all too well..
  3. Nice spotted! I didn't see that at all..
  4. or how about : Corporate Nazi Playhouse
  5. Woot! Now this was an interesting episode - it felt long and a lot of different story lines were touched on, even if it was very only briefly. + Seeing little Ben was neat! He looks so scared all the time.
  6. Might be a good idea - also there's gonna be some cool mods that will make the gameplay tighter and better, but personally I want to have a good grasp at the basics before I jump that wagon.
  7. I think Albion is good.. Great Land of the Tatooed sounds a little wierd to me.
  8. I couldn't muster the patience at all, I watched about 20 minutes and was so totally exhausted that I had to go to sleep afterwards.. it was 4 in the afternoon and I wasn't tired at all before. Gotta say I was pretty impressed by that.
  9. I could understand if they just had better attack or more troops or something.. but yeah, if it's just because they can hide behind a bush I don't want an extra upkeep of 100. Besides, Monty Python pretty much proved how futile that is.
  10. Ha ha, that would be awesome! Remote Surgery of Doom - I don't know if I want to play this game.. A Boy and His Bomberman Master - I'm getting a homosexual vibe from this title. Wrath of the Dating Carnage - This could be an expansion for Sims 3! Edit: My Very Own STD in the Dark I had to post this one..
  11. I started a new campaign and went as Russia, they are actually pretty good fun - I got into a war on two fronts almost immediatly against Ottoman + the two smaller muslim countries along my border and Sweden. It's really hard to hold everyone off at once, but a great way to get better (they aren't attacking me in full force, but are harrassing me by attack unprotected farmlands etc). My big problem here is the balance of troops, I don't really understand the stats on some of the units. Russia have Cossack units, both mounted and infantry - the line infantry version is really cool, they have swords, so they don't need bayonets - but the cavalry only has 45 in one unit and has the exact same stats and price as a Dragoon, which has 60. So why should I choose the Cossacks? Then I have Hussars, who has worse stats than the Regiment of Horse, but are more expensive. Seems a little stupid to me.
  12. On that note, I seem to remember that we all originate from approx. 9 females. Since there are only 9 variants of mitochondrial DNA?.. wow this is totally random isn't it? Looking very much forward to the next episode.
  13. Thanks for taking the time to give these hints - they are a great help! I've been to England a few times, but I've never absorbed the local stories or heard about some of these places (like the Moss side area of Manchester). This is gonna flesh out my story nicely.
  14. Pruned - let's be a little respectful..
  15. There's this really cool Greek word for king - but I just can't remember it.. Sounds like Arach or something.
  16. I had the same problem with The Witcher, loved the atmosphere and setting, but the mechanics of the game were really annoying me. I got quite far, but the story kinda stalled and got boring, that and the gameplay meant I couldn't bother to finish.
  17. That's the exact setup I'm doing and have done - and to great effect.. We were playing a session where the players were travelling in a very harsh area, which had some very bad effects on the characters.. I was the "Bad GM" who kept handing notes to players with various diseases they got, things they discovered and so they could decide if they wanted to share with the rest of the group. It was great because the other GM could focus on telling the story, while I was running a kind of sub-story with the individual players.. They praised this afterwards, saying that it gave a very good flow to the game. I also handled all the dice rolling and kept notes, which helped keep the story going without too many breaks.. and as an added plus, having 2 GMs means that the players can talk to more than 1 person at a time.
  18. Yes I actually took some inspiration from Homer (not the cartoon character) and considered naming the boss Anax and the lesser kings Basileis. But I rather wanted to fashion it around Latin instead of Greek and go with Emperor (from Imperator) - I know it's a bit clich
  19. I've had two invasion over sea in my British Campaign, the French and the Spanish.. One of them nearly took out London, because I had to raise an army as they set foot on the shores. My biggest grief is the reinforcement issue, it's so stupid I can't imagine why they brought it back! I've actually stopped playing it all together because every battle pisses me off.. Now I'm waiting for some mods to fix it.. But I've always enjoyed mods much more than the vanilla game, since Rome TW, so why should it be any different now
  20. You know Rhomal, blaiming the girls won't really get you far, other people aren't as stupid as we like to think and if you start talking to someone with the underlying expectation that they are gonna dissapoint you - they often will. When I was in Highschool I often wondered why girls/boys would choose whom they did. I often discussed it with friends of both sexes and with the nerds and jocks to see if I could find some heads and tails in it. Now this is going to blatantly superficial, so read on with that in mind! Girls look for security - the female social standing is a complex one, much more than the males hiearchy! When it comes to sex and replication the girls can basically always find someone willing, so their needs are geared more towards a person that will enhance their social standing and give them security. With this in mind it's important that we realize that being too willing to adapt (or submissive) and too nice, often causes people to take advantage of us - or at the very least think we are harmless (good for getting friends, not so good for getting girlfriends). Now the girl won't pick you, if you seem "weak", so you need to be more independent and not afraid to take control of the situation. The same goes for social standing. Girls will be more attracted to a guy if all her girlfriends are also attracted to him - this I can say with certainty, I've seen it happen alot of times. Now they can still be attracted to a guy without the consent of friends, but they will be more attracted if the group is. So if you want to get with a girl, charm the pants (not literally) of her friends first - it's always a good start to show that you aren't afraid to be the center of attention - and therefore socially important (again taking control of the situation). Basically be an Alpha Male, without being a jerk at the same time, and you win big time! When it comes to the relationship fase I find that girls get really wierd in certain phases. She will demand that you give her more attention, but scorn you if you do, she will demand that you be more romantic and impulsive only to want you to tone it down again immediatly after. This, for a guy - is horrible - as we are solution oriented, if there's a problem, we want to fix it, if something needs to change, we'll change etc etc. The problem here is actually that she wants you to do all these things, but doesn't want to be the one who tells you to do it. She tries to take control, only to regret doing it and then blame you for not getting it in the first place. This phase is tricky, because she wants you to take some more control, but it can't be too obvious that you are doing it to please her (and get some peace). It's also important not taking complete control, because otherwise it's going to be a very stagnant relationship and she'll leave you for that. The dynamic "turf-war" is a very important part of keeping a relationship fresh. That's my 2 cents anyway..
  21. They do indeed - but my binoculars are made of 40% dolomite BABY!
  22. After figuring out that in war you die unless you hide - my deathrate dropped significantly.. You have to shake off the ol' FPS tendencies for this game.. there's no crosshair, no autoreloading, basically you have to do stuff yourself and that's pretty cool once you get used to it. And riding as a tank commander, poking my head out every once in a while to scope the battlefield, was good fun - even if I couldn't hit a thing.
  23. Will do - it's easy enough to find these things here, most tourist offices have maps and guides on every major city in Europe.
  24. Technically they are dead anyway .. the human race can't survice (properly) with less than 50.000 individuals.. assuming they have as bad genes as we do. Brainfart there.. What I meant to say is - you are right Gorgon.
  25. After reading through the "what are you playing" thread I couldn't help but think of all the games I've tried, but never completed.. To name a few: Civilizations IV Baldursgate (never actually finished the final battle against Sarevok) Planescape Torment Fallout 1 - 3 The GTA games (sandboxed alot, but never finished any of them) Halflife 2, epsiode 1+2 The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Black & White Neverwinter Nights I Europa Universalis III (I just never could take the new graphics serious, it's so ugly that I quit after 10 or so minutes - my favorite series though, so this pains me quite a bit.) I thought we could use this thread as a motivation to maybe pick up one of these old (or new) titles and get started again.. once we realize what we missed. Which games didn't you finish?
