I love these COOP FPS games .. like Left4Dead, Battlefield 2 etc and I've been playing Battlefield 2142 for about 1,5 year now.. I love the concept of hierarchy (Commander -> Squad Leaders -> Grunts) and the concept has alot of potential, but over time cooperation has seized and people are more concerned with points now it seems.. At least I can't seem to find the good servers anymore. Do you guys know any good games (old or new), where there's still a good community who are more concerned with cooperating, and winning as a team, rather than just getting the highest points as individuals? I'd appriciate any info! - Rosbjerg

Americans set to get standardised/universal healthcare
Rosbjerg replied to Humodour's topic in Way Off-Topic
[1]I hoped the quotations marks would help, but don't worry - very few would think you are evil, they would however argue that you are wrong.. Like you would in their case. I was just exaggerating to get a point across.. [2] Actually I haven't.. my parents are conservatives and hold much the same principles as you, I've been raised to believe in personal ambition and selfmade luck etc etc. But you forget (and I'm a little dissapointed that you do) that we hold the same principles, and that America certainly isn't the only place who values personal freedom... Our constitution gives us the same rights and privliges as you, the only difference is that we all try to help those who are having a hard time making their own luck.. This works for us and I'm very proud of it, but I have the utmost respect today (I know that wasn't the case a few years ago) for your system and beliefs. I think the advantage to your system is that people are much more personally involved in their own fortunes and strive to a greater degree to succeded, while in our society things can become more stagnate.. On the flip side, people who fail in your system really fail, while their fall is somewhat shortened in ours. [3] My goverment cannot take rights away from me either - and never have (you thought they could?) .. and not to be rude, but post 9/11 I have considerable freedom compared to you.. To round this up, I think you confuse taxes with liberty - I would arguee that you are not more free, or less free, based on the level of taxes you pay. But more so on the level of involvement and direct influence you have on the goverment.. and personal freedom to express your opinions no matter what they may be. In this regard my country is as free as yours. edit: I didn't get my point across very well.. I'll admit that.. and I will be the first to admit that I probably have alot to learn about Liberalism. And in theory I'm not a socialist, but the word has really lost it's meaning these days (like fascist) so I still think I can claim the title on that merit (but you are right of course). -
I don't get it.. what's the game?

Americans set to get standardised/universal healthcare

Taks... I always like your posts about these things - it reminds me that it's real people behind those ideas and that humanizes my political opposition.. But I'm always so amazed at how utterly "evil" I (and people like me) would seem to you and your political likeminded friends (being a socialist) and how utterly "evil" my friends would probably view you (they would probably call you a greedy, cold hearted imperialist ).. But most of all.. I'm amazed that two very moral men can have such different opinions on such simple things.. It's really quite refreshing (and probably good in some sense). -

That being said, It seems to me that the majority of Americans don't want universal healthcare - and as such they shouldn't be forced into it.. And the few Danes I know that have moved to America all say they are quite happy with the system and that it works about as well as ours (something are better - other things are worse etc) (note, of course none of them are in any way poor, so their opinion is pretty jaded) Universal Healthcare isn't always the answer, but helping out those that really can't afford insurance is imo. A system of choice is perhaps the best answer.. A social net to ensure that the unfortunate doesn't get left behind and a system of personal insurance that allows the wealthier to have acces to alternative treatments, I would personally be very much against that kind of system as I think it's unfair.. but as a compromise I would prefer it to no/minimum coverage for the poor. -

Of course not.. and I think every country prioritizes as well - the only difference is that in some countries, money doesn't help you get a liver/any organ faster.. -
The biggest problem with that is that the virus is especially tough on young people, because of their good immune system. It causes cytokine storms, a negative feedback loop in the immune system, and in essence means that the better your immune system, the more likely you are to die (if you get the virus). But yeah, if this thing gets loose then the poor countries will be hurt the most..

So we have a situation of a Human->Human transmisson .. and maybe up to thousands of infected in 3 countries (with a probability of several more).. Containment is somewhat difficult if it's already spread across continents and since it's airborne it's even harder.. So, are we worried yet? or is this just a media-scare? Wiki article of Swine flu The US declares public health emergency * Black: confirmed deaths * red and dark red: confirmed infections * orange: unconfirmed infections

What do you do in the case of a pandemic? Everyone is burried in debt (having your entire family in the hospital probably isn't cheap) or does the goverment pay in such a case? -
Yeah I have the same "problem" Blank.. I do what I can to suprise her everyone now and then, usually with romantic things - the biggest adventure I've had with her was when we went to Paris for an extended weekend, I didn't tell her exactly where we were going until we were at the airport.. I think it's really the small things that count, your willingness to actually plan something just for the 2 of you, or the fact that one of the first things you thought of when the weather changed was her and picnic etc. - like LC said. Also - It doesn't hurt telling her these things either!

The Fountain is the only one I can think right now.. It's not as much a Sci-fi as the two mentioned, but it touches on some of the same themes, ideas and moods. And the score is amazing, just like with Solaris. In the "sci-fi-lite" ball-yard we have; Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Science of Sleep, and La cit

It seems like you are expanding too quickly? I only have problems with public order if I conquer more than 1 territory every 2-3 turns.

humiliating.. there's nothing worse than the same boomer getting you over and over again..

You can if you tell it to only manage the places without govenors..

I play the standard european times.. usually around 17-22. Me and 3 friends just got Gold in survival mode (10 min) - it was really intense, but I can recommend playing "the street" level from "Death Toll", it's doable when you go way back and hold out at the fence.. the zombies still come from every direction, but here you have a good chance of taking them out from a distance.

One of the first games I played as Britain, the Spanish and the French both launched an invasion on my mainland - so landings do happen - but they seem to be extremely rare.
-
Last Stand is really intense.. We managed to survive for 3,5 minutes the longest.. Average was 2 I think..

My character tried to jump up the stairs in a castle hall room (Mount and Blade) and somehow managed to slide down from the top and got knocked unconcious.. Pretty embarrassing for a King..

I like ETW alot as well, but if I had to choose I think MTW2 is the better game.
-
You really like these online games don't you?

^ I think you mean Medieval Total War 2, right? I would recommend that (the above) as well! I've played all of the different games and each have alot of charm.. my favorite is without a doubt Shogun, but it's too old at this point to really be enjoyable for a newcomer imho. MTW2 has the most developed mods (along with RTW), with some very of interesting ones on the way, as Monte Carlo mentioned the Grand Campaign Mod is the ultimate mod if you want to play the Vanilla game with the added features of the expansions.. I find MTW2 to be the best games in my possesion with this mod.

Quarantine .. I liked it, but that's because I couldn't help but think of it as a prequel (or whatever you call it) to the game Left 4 Dead.
