  5. The Station Agent One of the best films I've seen this year, I've sat through parts of it before, but never saw the whole thing till the other day. Its like an 8 1/2 out of 10. Patricia Clarkson is a really underrated actor, one of the real strengths of this movie is the casting. Only complaint I could have is that the movie apparently too place in Newfoundland, and the soundtrack seemed to be a little lacking. Pulp Fiction I remember being nervious about seeing this movie in the theater because at the time I was underage. I guess I haven't really seen it since except in passing. A pretty significant part of the film, the exchanges between Thurmond and Travolta are utter tripe. I dunno why I thought this movie was any good to began with, granted I was like 15-16. Most of the dialogue is equally as boring, which limits the good parts of this film to Sammy Jackson's iconic appearances and Ving Rhames getting ass raped, so nothing all that substancial. I'd give it like maybe a 4 out of 10. It seems that every Tarantino movie gets worse with each subsequent viewing with the possible exception of KillBill, which I have only seen twice. Its like he never really gets any new material, just rips off different movies for their action sequences.
  6. Townes Van Zandt ~ The Hole The old woman finally caught me Sneakin' 'round her cave Her hair looked just like barbwire, boys and her smile just like the grave She asked me could I stay awhile I said I'd better go She slid her arm around my neck and sweetly whispered no It's cold and dark and lonely here as soon enough you'll see I'm oh so glad you stumbled in I've been cravin' company I cannot stay too long you know I left some friends at home Don't you fret about your friends Down here we're all alone What about my mother I can't just leave her there to mourn You don't have to think about her Just forget you were ever born I'll disappoint my father you know he worked so hard for me If you have to pay your father back Just send him some misery I'll miss, I said, a girl I know I can't just leave there to pine she's still got plenty of men to go I'm sure she'll do just fine What about my little boy She said, he's just like you Let a few short years roll by He'll end up down here too Then her pale green eyes began to glow she placed her hand on mine she smiled and said don't worry you'll get used to me in time As her cold tongue flickered toward I spun myself around made a dive for the passageway but the walls come crashing down Now her eyes were the only light my fevered brain could see but I tore myself away from them and fell down to my knees I've come too far, I can't get back I beseeched the Gods of men fame and fortune just laughed at me then silence once again A whisper deep within embrace the God of Love I lifted my face and through the tears I saw light fall from above I hurled myself into the wall I ripped and clawed my way through the stinkin', clingin' loam back to the light of day I crawled out into the wind again the sky upon my face I heard the earth sigh patiently as it slid back into place Now I'm back among the ones I love I'm loved by them in turn and it's only on the darkest night that green eyed memory burns So walk my friends, in the light of day don't go sneakin' 'round no holes there justmight be something down there wants to gobble up your soul
  7. The Girl With The Pearl Earring I was surprised, this movie wasn't half-bad even though I rarely enjoy period pieces. Although, I'm not too fond of this type of thing inwhich an author will totally fabricate something about real people. In the end it will probably only slightly askew history. Scarlett Jo, was hawt, but I would have gone all out and given her a pearl necklace.
  8. I really liked that one too, but I think we're in the minority. Its one of the few times I think a director has really used modern special effects to craft a story. Borat thought it was superfunny in parts, the bits about the bear were especially funny. I'm not sure how the film would stand up to another viewing so I'm filing it away until the proper time comes again.

I would stay away from ivory or whale bone, since you'll be attracting alot of attention with your new pipe, you certainly don't want to give the invious non-pipe smokers any ammo to take you down a notch. I would go with a simply one, maybe made of something like brazilian mahogony or another nice wood. My first pipe actually belonged to my father and was a moderately priced piece. I would also suggest that you work on your pipe mannerisms, since this is what will really solidify you as a pipesmoker. Pointing at things with the pipe during a conversation is a good start, might want to watch a few Carey Grant movies. Any good pipe store should allow you to sample the tobacco before you bye it so that shouldn't be a problem. I started smoking a pipe because I didn't want to be like the girls at school with their cigarettes and having to smoke at every "break".
  20. Tay Zonday ~ Chocolate Rain Yeah, I know, I know
  21. I remember catching alot of flak from my friends for not finding that movie awful. As far as life being out there, I think that people underestimate how many factors figure into a planet being able to substain life. I would say that at best the chances are 50/50 that somewhere in the immediate universe there is life, much less intelligent life.
  22. Cyndi Lauper ~ Goonies R Good Enough I wish I had my old bicycle to ride and listen to this song.
  23. Spanking the Monkey http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111252/ The whole point of this movie seems to make the audience feel uncomfortable, which given the subject matter seems really impossible otherwise. It sort of a house burning down type cinema, where you don't really like anything thats going on, but still feel compelled to watch. The direction is really superb and it definitely gets something up on screen that is outside the usual hollywood gloss over, I'd say maybe a 7 out of 10, but it would be difficult to see again.
  24. Pixies ~ Bird Dream of Olympus Mons
