Do not make the game isometric
Quillon replied to Bercon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
They could, but then Kickstarter backing up would cost double, double the production time, double the tweaking time and patches and double the overall cost. I think it's better to have art and gameplay mproved quality of POE then go in different direction. That's why they are into fig. More budget from more sources. Not necessarily for PoE 2 but if fig gets popular somehow I'm sure Obs have projects in mind. -

Obs loves working with new engines, they make their codes portable just to be able to : D But srsly, I prefer 3D with rotatable cam, maybe its cos I wasn't a gamer yet when IE games were around I tried but couldn't get a hang of retroplaying those games. Since PoE marketed to be in this certain style I wouldn't object PoE 2 to be the same but I'm sure I'd enjoy more if it'd be in dragon age origins-style. -

Sorry to revive an old thread but someone in another forum told that he bought the game on release but couldn't play it more than 6 hours till this day cos of the in depth replication of 20 year old games, he would have liked it to be a lot more modernized.i.e. he'd have liked it to be like dragon age where he can rotate and zoom the cam etc. The features I wouldn't mind having as well, apparently I can do without, tho combat would have been much more clearer rather than chaotic looking as we have now. Which raised the questions... I did a bit of searching and found this thread. Makes no sense. First, the pre-rendered 2D art was a 3D model first too. Therefore building a 3D model, then rendering it to 2D, then cutting it and implementing it into the map is more work than just using the basic 3D model from the go. I also recall devs were saying that making maps in this game is too complicated when they talked about modding possibilities. So the game is made now: 1. Would it have cost the same(or cheaper/more expensive) if the same game made fully 3D like WL2? 2. Was the 2D background decision all for nostalgia or money/time? -
PoE 2.

If Obs will go CF with PoE2 or with another project, they should announce it in a big event like Tim Schafer did(or shenmue devs) if they can, 3.3m goal looks like homerun at day 1. -
Shame on you, Obsidian.

Whenever someone bashes the game and complains about the bugs and constant crashes, usually it turns out he's playing on a 32bit OS. -
Enemy barbarians can dragon leap onto my guys(in siege of cragholdt), but my barb can't automatically do it, I'd very much like my barb to enter combat with a dragon leap then rest of the party to come for his rescue : D but I have to do it manually. Per encounter spells/abilities(foe only) should be free game for AI packages, no? Wish this were like dragon age origins' tactics feature.

Fallout 4 spin off confirmed? He's most probably talking about North Carolina... more like Stormlands/NC Post Apocalyptic RPG confirmed. : d ed: or... Feargus Urquhart: We talked to a publisher(Bethesda) about the ideas(for Stormlands/NC), we kinda repurposed it(for next FO spinoff) and oddly the publisher signed it, it sort of in a different form(like they repurposed Van Buren for New Vegas) and that should get announced in next few months.

Heh, title of this thread is too obscure. I watched the video two days ago and was wondering why people don't talk about it, I was posting in other threads to get a response : d I looked at codex, people there think its another high fantasy rpg cos of the name "Stormlands". When I heard about it back in the day when there was news of its cancellation I thought it should be a PA rpg somehow; half urban wasteland with sandstorms... the road... mad max : p Also poeple think its open world action rpg, which it was originally but Feargus Urquhart said its changed a lot. Maybe it could be some smaller sub-genre cos its not that easy to believe for a publisher to finance an open world AAA rpg and Obs don't have that kind of luck : d

According to Todd Howard, they knew they weren't gonna make another fallout for a long time and wanted to keep Fallout around(it wasn't as popular as it is now) so they asked Obs and told them to keep it in the west coast, Obs made a great pitch, they loved it etc.

Quillon replied to dava4444's topic in Computer and Console
Coming in with an open mind wouldn't have helped me, I came in with low expectations for writing/story and pleasantly surprised with some of the side content. Main story sucked(The Institute, for a round and symmetrical world!) plus they tried to replicate how the ending for New Vegas came to be with restrictions without the epilogue. Companions were pretty good, they usually have something unique to say about what ever we are doing where ever in Boston. And there are 11 of them(I haven't got to the last synth companion tho) Since this is the first time they have done "deep" companions, I'm surprised they were as good as Bioware's if not better. If some people praises Bioware's writing, those people should praise Bethesda's writing as well, DAI's main story also sucked, and Beth certainly upped their game to be on par with Bioware tho far away from Obs or Cdp's writing. Now I have finished the game, having done most of the side content as well I don't want to return to it, which was not the case for Skyrim for me. Played Skyrim for hundreds of hours(time spent most on modding) while finishing it's main story only twice but I'm not even excited for mods for F4, donno why. -
So this new obs game(a new incarnation of stormlands/north carolina) is common knowledge and I'm just finding out about it? : p http://www.pcgamesn.com/obsidian-will-be-announcing-a-new-rpg-in-the-next-few-months

Well this came as a surprise to the end of the GI show. https://youtu.be/7hqYxXEdw8U?t=9149 Next obs game is a new incarnation of Stormlands/North Carolina, already signed with a publisher(paradox?), there might be additional crowdfunding... Fallout spinoff seemed like a long shot but vampire seemed likely to happen. Nonetheless I'm excited for this new incarnation of Stormlands/North Carolina. -

White March 2 question
Quillon replied to maglalosus's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I was in the same boat but jumped out and played it. Liked it better than the original game; it was pretty lengthy, more enjoyable, better paced, more responses to our character's various stats/background etc, scripted events were better and occurred more often... more polished experience overall. Feeling pretty much the same as I felt for HoS expansion for Witcher 3 about WMP1 to Pillars, tho WM felt more fresh cos of the snowy setting I guess. And finally companions can talk to and get a response from NPCs when they interject. Also no cliffhanger ending, felt like a complete story so this shouldn't be a reason to postpone if it was : p -

And the underlying solution is for Obsidian to elapse the time in Pillars. Second game would be in steampunk era, then modern era then cyberpunk then PA... The catch is we play the same soul in each era and magic gradually diminishes as time passes(maybe magic tied to Adra stones and as people mine/deplete adra...). There you go, Obsidian's very own Assassin's Creed : p Also let JES design everything! : d -
Paradox Interactive Acquires White Wolf Publishing
Quillon replied to nathler's topic in Computer and Console
If you don't have an engine from a parent company or something, chances are you're gonna use cryengine for a tps action rpg game : p Don't know why so many devs are choosing cryengine, maybe it's cheaper than most? Why not license redengine from cdpr? : d -
PoE sells 500K units
Quillon replied to Eisenheinrich's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Back in the day(couple months ago : P) I didn't understand why some devs were doing KS after KS after KS... and I thought they were taking advantage of people but when I thought about it, they really have nothing to gain by doing KS when they have the budget for the next game, it only increases their budget and a portion of the copies of the game being made sold cheaper via pledging, so nothing to gain except for larger budget for the game. So I hope OE goes to KS again for PoE 2. Maybe they can do it on their own with the supposed around $7M budget but I wouldn't mind seeing what they can do with $10+ million. -

If I failed, I failed only ONCE : p DoS is different; it's 3d, has co-op multiplayer to the core of the game and interactive environment etc makes it an easier pitch to modern gamers. It's also turn based which is not related to my point but just to say I prefer RTwP. -
PoE sells 500K units
Quillon replied to Eisenheinrich's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It sold 500k cos max demand for this type of game was around 500k. How much more can you sell this type of game with heavy marketing? If it was an 3d action rpg with same characters/story it would have sold much much more. You like the company, you want their games(the games you like) to sell more, you wanted to micro manage the 6 men party on 2d backgrounds with lots of area transitioning but you forget that you are part of a niche audience and you call failure to normal or relatively good(PoE's price vs other indie RPGs' price) results.
