  1. I really like the new screenshot. It has that painterly look that I found often missing from previous screenshots. The cobbles don't have any weird CG shine left, the wood looks like wood ... it's just great
  2. Oh sorry, I thought this was already after the final pass. If this is what comes out of the rendering stage then the final result will be amazing.
  3. Anyone else went "ENEMIES" when seeing those yellow circles. Odd color, still Hehe, I made them red at first but that didn't stand out enough so I switched to yellow. Didn't want to panic anyone
  4. I don't know if it would be hugely costly to make the floor pattern for the blacksmith (and I assume other locations) less repetitive. Also, those stones look like a real tripping hazard. BTW, why can't I add attachments anymore? Can't guarantee the image above will be there forever.
  5. I really like the idea of the common HP pool for ranger and animal companion. I hate it when you got an animal around that has like 5 HP and all your tactics have to be centred around keeping that animal out of combat. I just hope the defence of the companion won't be so bad that you basically kill your ranger as soon as an enemy decides to attack the companion.
  6. Well, given how much clothing they have left, I think we all know what those "traumatic circumstances" were in each and every case. Or are there variants where they died tragically but fully clothed? I'm just irritated, however, where the ghost loincloth came from. Protecting the souls of children in the afterlife and any other fabric than blue steam is hard to come by and even that is really expensive you don't want to use more of it than necessary?
  7. Gaah, I don't understand the purpose of this thread! Some people prefer nearest neighbour because things remain crisp, others don't like watching at Lego and prefer some decent interpolation. So when some day the game is released for higher resolution screens, you want an option to use nearest neighbour. Sounds reasonable. Either way, I pretty much expect this game to have a zoom function much like the Baldur's Gate Enhanced Editions. That would make the whole discussion pretty much a moot point. You also argue for providing the 2D backgrounds/textures in as high a resolution as possible. Can't argue with that, other than that it seems to be already challenging to handle these huge textures. Lastly, "dpi scaling" is a very odd word. Do web developers really use that? The moment I got a 15" 1080p laptop a couple of years ago, I started putting high resolution images on web sites and had the browser downscale them. People with a slow connection probably hated me for it. Either way, it didn't occur to me to invent a fancy name for that. These days, I'm using ctrl+mouse wheel in my browser all the time which means that the scaling factors will be all over the place and I'm pretty damn happy all modern browsers use some form of interpolation, not nearest neighbour as they did back in the days. Only wish the SVG support would get anywhere. Half the images on the web were vector graphics to begin with. Rendering them as PNG just to then start getting into all kinds of trouble with scaling them is really dumb. Sorry for the digression.
  8. Read that as "Thoughts? No, reflections!" Anyway, that's actually something that I can do without.
  9. Just to be clear, BTW. I don't think the water looks bad per se. In any other game I'd probably like the effect. I don't like it here because I don't find it fitting for the painterly backgrounds. Just wanted to make sure this came across.
  10. While the gameplay trailer looked just as gorgeous as I had hoped given the decision to go with 2D backgrounds. One thing that I'm not sure about yet is the look of the water though. Maybe it's all pre-alpha and I just should stop worrying but let's take a look at the three scenes where water is most prominently featured in the trailer. The water looks very different in all three of these scenes and I definitely like the first one the least while the second one looks pretty good actually. Of course the hard pixely edges of the foreground columns contributes its share to make the water stick out in the first screenshot but actually I'm not convinced this is the only reason. It just looks too "3D" to me. Any thoughts?
  11. Why don't you just say that all you want is to forge yourself an Iron Throne?
  12. I would have felt so betrayed if they presented a screenshot where half of the screen was black with the reason "sorry, fog of war". So yeah, thanks for switching it off for this screenshot
  13. Well, the more lighting you do automatically, the less the artists do it. And his suggestions were very extensive and detailed. They went far beyond "why don't you make the shadows follow the sun" or something. And some phrases like "correct me if I'm wrong" or "I'm no expert on the matter but maybe you can ..." would also have gone a long way. But to be honest, his behaviour annoyed me enough to register an account and write an angry post but it's not important enough to discuss this to no end. So let's just say that it annoyed me but didn't bother you. That's ok.
  14. He could just be more humble instead of saying stuff like "shouldn't be hard" and "should be easy enough", and maybe get into less technical detail but instead trust in the developers' professionalism. And regardless of the technical feasibility of his suggestions, as I said, I'd vote for more story and a more painterly quality of the graphics instead of state-of-the-art gadgetry any time.
  15. I'm not a fashion designer so I might just be an ignorant fool but is it really that hard to design a fashion style that doesn't feel like a variation on well-known themes, given a set of available materials and techniques?
  16. @ Frenetic Pony If I read "shouldn't be hard" from you one more time, I swear I'm gonna freak. If it's not hard, do a fricking tech demo already instead of throwing around 3D CG lingo and trying to apply it to this 2D demo we've seen but not thoroughly understood. Also, stop extending your wishlist of "but I wanna, but I wanna" effects and techniques. These guys know what they are doing and it's groundbreaking. If something can be done within the limited budget, I'm sure they will. If it can't then I won't throw a tantrum. And anyways, I'd go for beautifully painted backgrounds in favor of fancy 2.5D effects that force the artists to make compromises any time.
