In Mask os the Betrayer there is this dungeon called Because of the way the camera works you can't see where you are going at all, You basically either grope your way around or use the area map and walk around with the little arrows. After I had cleared the place out and solved a few quests a new way opened enabling me to continue, I walked around aimlessly for 30 mins looking for the set of stairs that would lead me out. The area map was useless because it didn't show stairs, and the camera is so unwieldy you can't see whats in a room unless you battle the camera focus and happen to get lucky, letting it show you what you want to see. The smaller the space, the worse the camera acts. It's quite simply horrible, It has been ever since NWN2 first came out. Some attempts were made to reign it in, but none of them solved the core problem.

A gun is just a tool. By itself it cn't harm anyone. People kill people. Guns are just a tool they use. They could have easily use a car, a knife, a heavy blunt object, kitchen chemicals, and so forth and so on. The age old NRA mantra. Anyhow, the guns are important because this is an act inspired by media coverage of school shootings. Not to suggest that guns are more important than the reasons he acted like he did, but again, a bomb would probably not have been the same, bombers are tactical and dispassionate, they plan on not getting caught. I don't recall any instance of a student using bombs against his shool, well aside from the millions of bomb scares conveniently centered around the exam season.

I wonder if I even need to point this out but you took that part totally about of context. The comment about Morrowind was only about the content related with religions/social beliefs not about the engine. Oblivion may look better but its content was toned down to a generic and simplistic everyone's fantasy world. I just meant that the NWN2 engine is not very good. Mainly there is the basic problem of the camera which was never solved to satisfaction. If they had had a decent platform to make the game it would have been even more enjoyable.

Why does that make you furious. He reenacted the Columbine massacre, to my knowledge I can't think of any examples of a student using bombs to massacre people at a school. He didn't either, he used guns. The what ifs are not at the core of the matter. These tragedies are a global phenomenon, but they occur in greater frequency if it is realatively easy to aquire guns. To me it's not a question of a political adenda, i'm not trying to get elected, I do however feel that there is no reason to tiptoe around the glaringly obvious. Is the how as important as the why, of course not, but it belongs in the discussion.

Teenagers are relatively new at heart wrenching soul searching and introverted agression, so they sometimes come off as egotistical. Serious mental instability can hide behind what we usually describe as a 'phase' So before we go wagging our fingers at how good they have it and how they are screwing up their prospects, remember that they are basically insecure and the rest is a posture.

Yeah, too bad about the engine. Imagine what obsidian could have done with a Morrowind expansion for instance.

I'm happy we have you here to determine which jokes are funny and which aren't. Tell me when I can laugh next, I sure need it right now. Sure thing. I'll tell you when my mom dies and you can make jokes about it on the day of the funeral. Whats a less person ? Anyway this is trajic, and the Finns maybe have too many guns for their own good considering their suicide rate. Awfully dark most of the year and the weather is worse than here.

Well, yeah, I can\t help thinking thats just a way to explain away some tosser standing around playing a lute. Lutes and combat don\t mix, not with a deity thrown in the mix either. It\s just not very high いn the coolness factor. There are already several prestige classes and class combos that enable a ¥jack of all trades ¥class, so all thats left are some spells and the rather silly bard songs, just my opinion. PS> currently stuck with Japanese text formatting and unable to switch back.

Consoles can\t be upgraded at all. If your card last 3 years or so it will have done its duty, and if the architecture is the same you can still salvage a great deal from your old box when putting together the new one.

In theory consoles should ad more graphics hardware resources to game developers and eliminate compatability issues, in some games this advantage shows, mostly it just seems to stupify them. Case in point, shooters without propper mouse controls since the consoles don't use them, thing is, the only choice for aiming is a mouse, controllers are a joke compared. Martial arts punchemup games have always been better in console form, in fact there aren't many at all available for pc. Shooters, CRPGs, RTS, pretty much anything else you can think of seems to work better if it's designed for PC from it's inception. Unreal Tournament, Neverwinter, Morrowind, became lasting phenomena because of the modding community, consoles don't encurage it.

I think the concept of some tosser standing around playing a lute while the rest of the party fights the monster is ludicrous. Other than that they have some interesting skills. Their advantage is versatility, unique spells and a wide range of skills.

Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition is on the way...
Gorgon replied to Sand's topic in Pen-and-Paper Gaming
From playing Mask of the Betrayer I think it\s especially bad how the epic feats require stats of 25, which means you can only min max if you want some of the fun feats. Every 3E CRPG I have ever played since Torment I have made a point of rolling my stats and entering them with cheat codes. Of course I end up with too many points to spend and I become overpowered, but it\s better than the very limited choices you get with point buy. As for the proposed changes, I like complexity, I like lots and lots of choices at level up and character generation, but then it\s been over a decade since I have actually played pen and paper D&D on a regular basis, my experience of 3E has been almost entirely digital interpretations. -

3E has point buy, which limits character creation to me. Too many min maxed characters. -
You don't get it and I have a feeling you are not going to try either even after I explain it again, but here goes : it's the segmentation and the lack of escape routes that's problematic, not the concept of an in depth conversation.

The biggest problem is that the dialouge box can't fit more than 50 characters or so, that ain't a lot. In any case you would'nt feel trapped if you could just walk away and do something else instead. Not enough of those boxes have a 'hello I was just passing by, nevermind me' option. Why not have all the talking heads stuff in 'movie mode' with the exception of the merchants and and short conversations. It worked just fine in KOTOR. Theres some cameras to place and a few standard animations, but thats not a whole lot of work. If thats too much voice acting just throw on some music or something

If the audience loses patience it's because they're morons. I bet thats what all the would be Stephen Kings' say when they get their rejection letters.

And he is well equipped - perhaps because he regularly finds 1500 gold pieces or so in the garbage he collects. Which reminds me, in the inn you get into a brawl with some pirates and the door orc charges you a gold fine, enough ostensibly to make a whole dinner set of GOLD chairs. I hate those long conversations that go on and on - and then require a decision between choices - and, damn, I forgot to take notes - and now I can't remember half the important facts - because I was given no clue I was going to have to make a critical choice - and not be able to review the facts. Yup, enourmous petitum of reading material for a computer game, and presented in a little dialouge box so you can't see more than a couple of sentences at a time. Brevity is virtue. If you have something important to chose, give me voice acting or at least a cutscene. You invariably just start pressing numbers blindly in the vain hope of getting out of the dialouge loop, perhaps glimpsing at your replies to guage where all the drivel is headed.

I just finished it and I thougth the story was strong, except at the end when the supporting cast of NPCs becomes rather large and unwieldy, you don't have to add characters just because you can you know. Unfortunately the aforementioned problems with the camera and the spirit eater mechanism killed much of my enjoyment of the gameplay. Not the best game I have ever played, not even a contender, but a strong story all the same and miles better than NWN2. Take as a for instance, you can't see where you're going at all unless you use the area map to walk around. The inventory is pretty bad too, I can't count the times i've had to move things around in several windows just to be able to manipulate them. Why not show all the inventory segments together instead of one at a time. I did not always enjoy the dialouge, although it was certainly more thought out than NWN2 there were still those times when you just wondered how you got out of a dialouge loop without actually reading all that stuff. In NWN you could just walk away. No forced NPCs though, except in very specific contexts, the devs took that message to heart, which is good.

For my money human players are exactly what the morrowind games need, ever since daggerfall it\s been too much realestate and too litte interaction. Even the dredges of human society which haunt MMOGs are an improvement.

I am unfamiliar with these pieces of internet lore. Perhaps for the best.

Ohh, well I already beat him, I was worried it was further along.

Really, I think it tastes like rubbery goo.

I just started with a new character and I was wondering if someone could tell me what not to do to avoid stumbling into the fatal Okku bug, without spoiling me more than needed. Maybe I should have killed him just in case, but I need a tank.

The main problem is that Whales and Dolphins are cute and intelligent, well giant octopusses are just as smart, able to use both tools and solve problems intuetively. Wheres the outrage against the slaughter of octopusses.
