  1. I didn' t say Obama was a better candidate, that's what I think, but It wasn't the point I was trying to make. I think you need people with some idea of coming up with answers themselves as opposed to being completely at the mercy of their staff. I suggest MaCaine might be too old for the job.
  2. Isn't McCaine in his 70s, I think thats a little old for the job. If he's just going to be a figurehead whats the point. That might be ageism I suppose, but I believe qualifications other than 'he's a hero' are in order.
  3. Well thats reasuring I suppose, although as with windows activation, It wouldn't be able to tell certain hardware changes from being another computer. Thats bad news if you upgrade a lot.
  4. Wrong thread, Dooh. Ahh well it's almost the same.
  5. Interesting. A remake on the Wii would be a good fit, I think. Especially with the new Plus thingie that's supposed to make the Wiimote more exact. Yeah, I tried it at a friend's house, the gameplay was crap. All hype if I remember correctly.
  6. Then me and my brother saved some money to buy a Amiga 500 .. We played so many different games - don't ask me how my brother could afford them all, but as far as I could tell they were all legal. None of mine were, kinda doubt your brother paid for them all though. I made a lot of friends swapping games. Even piracy was expensive, downgrading was slow and cost money, not that many people had parents who could abide sharing their phone lines with modems. Eye of the beholder, 14 diskettes, lol. Well i did buy Speedball 2 because the disk broke and I couldn't stomach being without it during vacation.
  7. The rest of the world is going to feel the US depression alright. No one is insulated, globalism and all that.
  8. I don't know if there are any examples of 'pure' capitalism. Protectionism and other kinds of political intervention are part and parcel of the system. Politicians are responsive to these kinds of demands, they have to be, despite being ever so lasse faire in theory. Taks seems to think an Adam Smith model ideal society is in any way achievable. I disagree.
  9. To a certain extent we live under the illusion that periodic economic depressions are preventable, especially if it's been more than a decade since the last one, the eggheads start writing theory and 'how to's then surprise, another one occurs.
  10. They still believe in magic, black magic or otherwise. I dunno if that's more savage than believing in Jebus.
  11. I don't see how you could get around making these broad assumptions if you want to connect the dots and make arguments in social sciences. Marxism, Socialism, Capitalism (used to denote a system of government), they are all disciplines that depend on broad assumptions to make any sense.
  12. Thats a non argument, and a poor one at that. The body count is high because he used a gun, shooters and bombers are different psychological profiles. Long story short, of course it matters what weapons are used in a mass killing. Give me a lunatic with a knife any day over one with a gun.
  13. Government and lenders are intertwined, this is all basic monetary policy. You know, the various buttons you can press to adjust growth rate. Usually this is handled by the national bank, and is all part of good housekeeping of the economy, but government spending is a politicall decision. If you got elected promising jobs, just start spending and the jobs will be created. Massive bailouts are in the same category, that is deliberate Keynesian (Socialist) manipulation of market forces.
  14. Amiga 500, upgraded to an incredible 1 megabyte of ram. It still beat any DOS based pc game hands down when it came to graphics. Two joysticks and late nights with too much cola IK plus , Speedball 2, Sensible soccer, among others. Ahh amiga, to run a half decent word processor you would need 4 or 5 diskettes, which would have to be inserted at arbitrary times to keep the program running. Didn't have a native harddisk.
  15. Isn't the point though that the US government should have stepped in long ago to stop questionable loan practices, that's what started the trouble in the first place. Loans with very bad security.
  16. What the US deserves cannot run as long as private enterprise controls the grease needed to get elected.
  17. Make him watch Rimmer world first
  18. So he'll be president elect for two months, that seems like rather a long time.
  19. EA has simply shifted the basline, you pay full price for limited use. Maybe they intend to offer up limited plays at lower costs, the market will decide that. If it's a 'killer app' like Crysis that people are going to buy no matter what, then probably not.
  20. These days 'puter games are dumb blondes, with very few exceptions, but we do still get decent CRPGs. On the other hand I don't share in the nostalgia to the point of appreciating games that are just too visually unstimulating. Daggerfall, JA, etc. Give me infinity engine or better at least.
  21. Like we don't repeat TV show formulas to the point of numbness rather than come up with something new.
  22. I heard he got the sack because he ridiculed speed limits while speaking at some function.
  23. Quit being such a sissy.
  24. Surely he's not meant to be funny, merely harmless in a cozy sort of way.
  25. Yeah well it doesn't age that well. I watched a few episodes recently. Other than that funny is funny, I get 'English humor'. There's nothing to 'get' about American humor, but that doesn't mean it can't be funny.
