  1. Nuking Iran because it is on the verge of developing its own bomb is complete lunacy. If anything does happen it will be diplomatic engagement, at worst an invasion. Most analysts realize there is nothing that can be done to prevent countries who have the will to do it from developing their own nuclear capacity eventually. That doesn't mean you start hurling missiles at them, even if they happen to be Muslim.
  2. Yes, I do. Intentionally targeting civilians is considered an act of terror even in a state of war. Neither Hiroshima nor Nagasaki were military targets. They were cities full of women, children and men. Hospitals, schools, everything was incinerated without discrimination. If you think that's right, then you have no right thinking 9/11 was wrong. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0911010/ And what else could Truman have said other than that it was a tough decision to take? That it was a piece of cake and it didn't bother him in the slightest..? Do you ever think for yourself or do you always let politicians think for you? Every side in ww2 is guilty of war crimes. The Americans tend to want to wash away their sins by regarding Hiroshima and Nagasaki as part of an equation where millions of lives where saved because an invasion of Japan was averted. It is of course a half truth, but one it is the most convenient to remember. The documentary you linked to doesn't dwell on it at all, it merely explores the human aspect of the bombings through the survivors.
  3. Hunter S Thomson went so overboard with the drugs the brain damage he received meant he could no longer concentrate long enough to write. That's just sad, not particularly awesome.
  4. Hell yeah. Stinkin' fascist phony. Now this is a real western hero.
  5. Ohh it's already been posted. Anyway, what a great mug.
  6. The loss of the expeditionary force would not have affected British naval superiority.
  7. How do you know exactly what the bias of any given media has. I think it's prudent to sample a little bit of everything. Also there are still newspapers out there that people buy because they still retain an editorial standard that is higher than TV or radio.
  8. Brutal social realism bores the crap out of me. Always has, probably because for the longest time those were the only kinds of movies we knew how to make in Denmark.
  9. The question gets around empirical standards of evidence by virtue of not being part of the physical world, but rather an unprovable and unimpeachable hypothesis.
  10. Well it's like Curly says, you gotta find that one thing... Even if faith is self hypnosis, if it makes you happier and more able to deal with life's challenges, who are you to say it's worthless.
  11. Lucas and Spielberg are busy trying to piss all over the decent movies they made in the past. Dunno why, boredom, can't be that they need the money.
  12. Africa is a strange place. Magic, both the good and the bad kind are still alive there. I mean there are people who think raping a virgin will cure them of AIDS. I wonder if the LRA still remembers what it was they were supposed to be fighting for.
  13. Terrentino is a more than decent director and a really horrible actor, I think he knows and doesn't care, he's in it for the experience. Takeshi Mike directed this, he's usually a lot better at 'weird'.
  14. Ugh I lost almost all interest when I saw Terrintino in it. God awful blowhard sob. I'll probably still watch it though. Watching the Japanese actors butcher the English language is funny, but the movie is just weird, and the wrong kind of weird, weirdness for it's own sake without any kind of edge. Just pointless posing, bad acting and unlikely slapstick stunts.
  15. I like the 'so far' part of that. Wouldn't that be nice, irrefutable evidence about the existence of god.
  16. How can you be an extremist in regards to an either/or proposition. There are ramifications that are inescapable either way. Are you suggesting it's better to wobble somewhere near the median of the scale and not really think on what your stance means.
  17. So wanton destruction and callous disregard for civilian death is ok because the people you are fighting are just as bad.
  18. You expect a plot twist that makes sense from Battlestar gallactica. Why, pray tell. At least we are done with the frakking prophecies of pithea, the show had been dragging that lame ball and chain around for practically 3 seasons.
  19. I'm guessing the reason they are doomed to repeat the same story over and over again is some kind of metaphysical cosmic loop caused by the cylons cheating death and being reincarnated the same, thus not making any progress on the wheel of karma as it were.
  20. The Geneva convention doesn't address irregular warfare. Not that I'm trying to make Hamas out to be guerrillas, just saying they are rules for regular armies that should supposedly make wars a little less gruesome.
  21. Blindness. It was absolutely terrifying.
  22. Everybody and their grandmother is a Cylon.
  23. So in answering perhaps the most significant question of them all you can either go with 'yes' in which case all is well, or with 'no', in which case you are merely being contrary and hurtful towards believers. In other words, believers are allowed to use the word 'god' when answering the question of whether he exists, but non believers are not. Good to know.
