Your academic career is starting to affect serious environmental damage to your language.

The Witcher 2
We want those things in our games precisely because they are taboo and exciting. And yes, an angel dies every time a customer porks a hooker. (honestly who cares, prostitution is a fact of life, just concentrate on the worst attendant problems, like human trafficking and drug addiction)

What you did today
I used to get those too. I guess nowadays I don't care enough about anything to get stressed or get stuck into fight/flight mode. This is not a good thing by the way.

The Witcher 2
I makes perfect sense to me. I mean we are talking about depictions of sex being censored because they are thought to have negative effects on children, hence something gets to be for adults only. 16/18/21+. The science suggests that sex and violence absorbed through entertainment media is not the cause for either crime or mental illness in adulthood, the damaging effect is very hard to pinpoint except as a sort of poorly defined parental idea that it's the 'right thing' to do.

Osama Conspiracy Theories...
I'm not so sure about the 'he resisted' part. What would we do with him alive, the Hague ?. Also there was the time pressure, making it more likely that they offed him to avoid having to drag him out of there. Well, that and the fact that they have been trying for 10 years to kill him any way they could. I don't know either way, just sayin' it's a bit convenient.

Bin Laden is dead
The UN security council passed a resolution high fiveing the raid and the death of Osama, Unanimously... That never happens.
-
Bin Laden is dead
The timing is entirely off for this to be a hoax. It's like faking the 10th moon landing. Why even bother.

Bin Laden is dead
I wouldn't break out the beer, but this guy was entirely off the charts in the evil mastermind score, high fives are in order.
-
Bin Laden is dead
Is anybody saying that.... I think no.

Bin Laden is dead
'Resisted'. I wonder. Anyway I wouldn't hold it against them.

Libya
Why is this troubling. I'm not troubled. They were probably gunning for Ghadaffi, but as we know his saves vs bombs are off the charts and he can only be hurt by magic fire. They should have known better. But... if they had been able to cut the head off the snake and end this, surely that would have been desirable for everyone. (well except the Ghadaffi cadre)

Av Referendum
We have a simple proxy system. An MP can vote any way he or she likes, but if he doesn't show up to press the button his vote will be tallied with the official party line.

What you did today
What was your point again. That there is no such thing as 'undemocratic', as in not democratic. Don't be silly.
-
What you did today
Democracy is not a value. Might as well argue that it's "unamerican". Nonsense. It's entirely possible for a system to be less, or more, democratic. We aren't using a specific yardstick, but those kinds of comparisons are as common as pie.

What you did today
It might well be argued that it wasn't theirs to begin with since the properites and castles were all bought and built with taxpayer money.

To be fair, Charles and his sons do have a lot of duties they deal with. So it's not all jetplanes and parties. Throw in the Queen as a general UK Ambassador type and the figurehead of state and spirit of the nation, and they do put in the effort. Say what you want about the majority of countries around the world, but state visits by the Queen and the immediate family can do a lot of good diplomacy for the country. Just because it isn't all in strict "official" form of diplomacy ... Well, it might make you feel good about yourselves and it might be entertaining, but it's undemocratic. Why not get some more healthy traditions which don't include showering one family in wealth and castles in return for the strenuous duty of handing out the honours list, doing a few charities and receiving dignitaries. The French had it right, off with the head and no feeling sorry after the fact.

And all of that for some ponce on account of an accident of birth. I wouldn't mind that job.

What you did today
Why would one watch such a thing. I mean Is the outcome in doubt.... The republican in me gets really pissed at such pointless extravagance, but I suppose it will more than pay for itself in tourist derived income.

Av Referendum
Damn, and I thought filibustering was exploiting the system. I've never seen anything like that. Does the vote really stand if there is a horde trying to get in with hammers ?

HBO's Game of Thrones
He reminds me of Worf from Startrek TNG, although that's probably a compliment. Still, it's hard to act when you don't have any lines.

Av Referendum
I think the against vote could help curb ultra nationalist parties. A lot of people are really annoyed at them, but have no particular level of interest in the remainder of the political sphere. With that admission, perhaps reverse voting would be undemocratic and would be serving as a method to stifle the unpopular to an even greater degree than is already the case, and as we know the unpopular is often the necessary but painful change.

He's visiting Denmark today I think, it was in the Paper at work.

Av Referendum
The problem is that people are even dumber than their elected representatives. If we had to have referendums on every item of national importance the result would be ruinous.
