Vertical mounting brackets are just to show off the RGB bling on the GPU. They make the problem worse, not better. Supposedly they also generate worse airflow.

It's kind of ridiculous though, I could cut two blocks of wood that would do the job along with a riser cable, and there are no commercial options to reclaim PCIe slots.

Does anybody know if you can get a specialized case that supports alternate GPU placement. I'm thinking with a riser cable. Given that 3+ slot GPUs are a thing, I can't be the only one that still uses the PCIe slots these things block off.

We are talking about an improper seating though, that can be avoided completely with care. They don't click to indicate a good seating which leaves some people to just mash the connector around instead of pressing down with moderate pressure.

Also you don't need an activated key to run windows, if they yank your key in a few years, you can just get another. The DRM only consists of the 'activate windows' nag screen.

OEM keys are the cheapest, my windows 10 key was like 20 bucks. I looked around at price comparison websites and checked my results with trust pilot, Yelp, type listings. If you can find a site with a long history and with a realistic score, like 60-85% rather than 100% reviews, it's worth the risk.
