The girl seemed to have liked the guy and was a semi-willing participant at first. It was pretty clearly statutory rape, though, and it doesn't help that he sedated her (which I guess would make it full-blown, non-statutory rape). These days she wants the case dimissed - she says he made a big mistake which she doubts he'd ever make again, and that she doesn't want the publicity and media attention. 13 is just too young, though. I mean, I know most teenagers first have sex at 13 and 14, but there's just far too much coercion involved in this case (between the age difference and drugging) to have much or any sympathy for this guy. Various countries have different age laws for sex. In Australia it is 16 years equals an adult, in most of Latin America, Western Europe, China, and Japan, it is 13 or 14, while in many states in America it is 18
  2. Here's my theory: Obsidian, like most game companies, are **** at translating.
  3. If you know what I mean.
  4. The sword loves the sheath.
  5. A single successful MMO would make that back, with Bioware's brand power and EA's market strength. Granted, I have a hard time seeing them making that back on pay-once games. But profit isn't the only issue here, as alanschu points out.
  6. Doesn't Nestle own about five hundred different brands now? They're like the AOL/TimeWarner of foods. Off the top of my head, Perrier (amid a few dozen other bottled waters), Ralston/Purina (including Alpo, Friskies), Nestle (naturally), Maggi, Taster's Choice, Cereal Partners Worldwide (a partnership with General Mills which includes putting out GM cereals outside of the US, like Cheerios, and manufacture in the US of some products, like H
  7. "Foods that are high in starches and sugars give us a rush for one minute then a lasting depression because of how fast they break down turn to sugar energy and then to fat if not used. " Nah. It's got nothing to do with depression in the DSM-V sense. And you're still sort of wrong in terms of hyper- and hypolgyceamia, although in large quantities they do often give a bit of a roller-coaster ride physically and mentally. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_glucose http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycemic_index Edit: certainly excess consumption of sugars should be avoided as they have a number of deleterious impacts in large quantities (like everything), such as diabetes.
  8. Yeah Nestle are ****wits. I avoid them when I remember to.
  9. My fist is also dangerous when it slams into your face, but I'm allowed to carry it around.
  10. I totally agree with that! Realistic or not, I always envision Moscow with snow cover. I don't envision Moscow as a snow-covered, but then that's because I know that Siberia is like 7 time zones away and that Moscow gets summer heat waves that can kill the elderly.
  11. Um, a) Rorie is just the PR monkey, and b) it's called a legally binding contract.
  12. I've pretty much lost all interest in Obsidian as a game company (same for Bioware). They're not Black Isle. I feel kind of sad to be saying that, but with Aliens dead, lots of mixed vibes about Alpha Protocol's direction (if it has one), and a Fallout game that looks like it'll simply mimic Bethesda instead of returning to Fallout's roots, I see little to get me excited. Meanwhile, NWN2 (haven't played MotB) and KOTOR2 were mediocre. *sigh* At least I've got Blizzard and Valve left.
  13. "Jerret Lee said on the Subject Zero thread: 'Yep, there are 10 potential squad mates to recruit from around the galaxy to take on your mission. The more you take, and the more loyal you make them, the better your odds of survival.'" Uhg. Annoying **** like that almost demands enjoyment-breaking metagaming. GOTTA CATCH THEM ALL.
  14. How is it worse? She (?) is an alien. I just don't like when they take human beauty canons and build alien/fantastic chracters around them. That's just my opinion, though. Agreed. I don't mind beautiful alien girls, but there needs to be ugly ones, too. Ones that are more... alien. Ones that don't attract us because they simply aren't part of our species. Something less anthropomorphic and more believable.
  15. There's Gimp which is an open source (free) alternative to Photoshop. It's as hard to use as photoshop, and if you know Photoshop there's no guarantee that'll help you know Gimp, but it's very powerful and heavily supported since it's what Hollywood and all *NIX distros use. http://www.gimp.org/ lol. You didn't even read the thread did you, Krezzie? I read the thread. Is there a problem with me repeating another person's recommendation? I should think the more voices the better.
  16. But... that's not really true. Certainly for Australia it's pretty much following normal El Nino patterns and strength.
  17. Found water. India's probe was the third space agency to discover water on the moon. It just means it's near irrefutable that the moon contains water and it wasn't a contaminant or measurement error. India's probe used a NASA device to discover the water anyway.
  18. Well, fine, I'm gonna hijack the thread. Let's talk about the world's biggest space telescope and an accompanying exaflops supercomputer that Australia is going to start building (with the help of NASA, ESA, etc) in 2012. That thing will be as amazing as the moon landing or the LHC!
  19. In other news they recently found definitive proof of water on the Moon. It's created by the sun's radiation causing hydrogen and oxygen in moon rocks to bind. So the Moon is constantly covered in a thin film of water. Enough to make rocket fuel out of. Edit: Wait, ****. I should have read the article before posting.
  20. Anyway, I hate this idea because EA has been a fairly decent support of Mag gaming in the past, and has recently been making noise about the growth of Macs and how it plans to expand its Mac market even more. So a Microsoft acquisition would be... less than ideal.
  21. I doubt the bingo would directly prevent the sale, though. Might lead to constraints on it of course (such as compulsory cross-platform deployments).

  23. That was my first impression, it probably wouldn't get approved. Yes it would unfortunately; Microsoft doesn't operate in the games software industry (it used to a bit, but it has since largely cut and run - and even then it wasn't a big player). For example: it'd be OK for Google to acquire an online store because that would diminish competition in the online store market, but it would not be OK for Google to acquire another search business (such as AOL) because that would directly lower competition in the search market. Because a Microsoft acquisition of EA wouldn't visibly reduce competition in this manner, I imagine it'd pass smooth sailing. What wouldn't pass is something like Activision-Blizzard buying EA. Edit: Though I can certainly see it being sued for anti-trust issues if it suddenly made all EA games 360 only.
