ALl of those are filled with drama. The good ones anyway. You're obviously a big fan of Steven Segal DTV epics. Read my posts properly doofus. There's a specific genre of TV called 'drama', and that's what Stargate: Universe is being billed as to the public, and being produced as in private.

because he tends to agree with you... yeah, whatever. as if you have some relative knowledge base to draw from. sorry, michael moore films don't count. taks I disagree with Enoch more than I agree, but his posts are very well thought out and justified. He's clearly put a lot of thought into his ideas, rather than drawn them directly from the American Republican Party's website or an Ayn Rand book. As I've said before, I've never seen a Michael Moore film, but what little I've heard of him leads me to dislike him. I imagine one day it'll get through that head of yours, taks.

I doubt think Visceris even knows the difference between civil and criminal law. You expect too much from him.

And frankly, I think that's going to be a problem for the Eurozone. In fact, I've heard it already is, given the disparity between the developing Eastern and the developed Western countries in the Eurozone. I'm all for the EU and free trade and common financial regulations and ****, but I don't see how merging currencies was ever a bright idea. I see. I have heard that a large part of the problem is that the Dems need a supermajority to pass tax increases to meet their budget, which of course the Republicans reject every time, leaving the state with a choice between either stagnation, or cutting funding to social, cultural and environmental programmes (I believe they recently had to close down half the state's national parks). Indeed. I think people blow California's problems out of proportion.

So I got an email to my private work address today. It was in French and from a seemingly genuine email account. It did not look like spam or a scam at first glance, and obviously bypassed university spam filter. Intrigued, I fed it through Google Translate. Perhaps it was from a saucy young French woman longing for a rugged Aussie bloke! Or perhaps it was just some French chick from our Canada campus logging a job for me. Alas, alack.

But that is what the producers have said they are aiming for. There's a specific TV genre called drama, and that's what they want this to be. Which is why I'm disappointed.

Canada is less affected by the current crisis mostly because their home mortgage rules are a lot saner than ours, ours are basically fraudulent. Australia is benefitting from the Chinese growth engine, while we lost most of our industrial base to them. For Australia it's largely sound fundamentals like Canada (the banking regulatory systems are ranked equally healthy at something like 2nd strongest in the world, IIRC), the biggest interest rate cut in the world (equivalent to one or two fiscal stimulus packages every month or two), and then Chinese growth. But California had a problem long before this crisis and I'm focusing on that, not how hard the GFC is hitting them. For example, how do lines of credit differ between a sovereign nation of California's size and economic output, and California itself?
-
In a word: no. Have you ever seen a comedy, action, romance or adventure movie? Obviously not.
-
Part of it seems to me the fact that California does not have sovereignty, because if you take a look at places like Australia or Canada, which are of semi-comparable economic size, population, and culture, you see a vastly different picture. Interestingly, both Canada and Australia also have higher taxes in every regard, as well as bigger social welfare systems, AFAIK. Canada and Australia also have some of the biggest migrant intakes in the world. TBH, I think America could do with splitting into 2 or 3 separate countries - a federal, central government just seems too big and inefficient to optimally organise & support so many states/people. Wow, I almost sound like a small government advocate.

Yes, you don't need every character to be romancable. Some characters and storylines work better without romance possibilities lurking. Although it might be interesting to see relationships formed other then "party follower" or "potential romance" in rpg's these days... (Although probably not any bromances needed...) but some of those pseudo-family roles that can spring up between characters in stories could be a change of pace in rpgs... Well said.

Having seen the first 2 episodes, and reading the wikipedia page for this show, I don't think it's going to appeal to me all that much. And the intended focus on drama makes me highly doubt they'll have an intelligent ship. Edit: but I would watch it if they did!
-
I had a thought... the ship found a planet for them and opened a wormhole because it knew they needed help. It could be a non-sentient autopilot... but what if the ship is run by an AI? The Ancients were certainly smart enough to build one. I imagine that's just me being hopeful, though. The series is probably far too boring for that.

The age of consent is 16 in over half of America's states, too. Ironically however, it is 18 in California. Age of consent world-wide. Anywhere green or blue is 16 years or younger: Frankly, though, I think they'd just make her 18 if they wanted her to be romanceable. The point though, is that they don't.

Game is now officially delayed

I'd probably see if the Valve or Blizzard boards are to my liking. -
Sis is 16 isn't she? That's legal in most countries. I was more concerned about all the Mission Vao fan-fiction KOTOR 1 generated, frankly, since she was 14. Edit: But I guess she was a blue alien chick with tentacles on her head so maybe people took that a little less seriously.

OK, this silence is unnerving. Seriously, it reminds me strongly of how Sega used and abused Obsidian's Aliens RPG. -
Unfortunately I wasn't joking. I just couldn't get past that eye scene and didn't bother skipping the file ahead. I'm neutral about the show, but all the claims about how damn slow it is and how the story is made up as they go don't make me terribly excited to bite the bullet. I think I'll give Flash Forward ago instead. ... you realize Lost has one of the most intense openings of any show on television... right after the eye scene... OK, but an intense pilot doesn't make up for the rest of the series being slow. Are the individual episodes worth watching? Is it sci-fi, btw?

He made Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me and Pushing Daisies. He's THE Boss. He was pretty much the only ray of light that Heroes had, but at some point you'll just have to cut your losses. I loved Dead Like Me and Wonderfalls. Pushing Daisies is a bit weird though... a bit clinical? Also, did I mention Heroes sucks?

For those skeptical that Valve is working on a DotA game, here's what IceFrog had to say on a DotA forum:

Sounds like Sega want to cancel every damn project Obsidian starts. I'm fine with Obsidian delaying their game because they think they need to. I am NOT cool with a **** publisher interfering like they did with Aliens and now AP. Edit: I concede that given the lack of information it might have been Obsidian that forced the delay, but I think the likelihood of that is small and thus I have no qualms about ragging on Sega. -
And H-L 2 Ep 3 is delayed because they felt the urge to implement hand signals for the deaf (they can't read color coded subtitles it seems) with some lame in story explanation that Alyx had a deaf boyfriend bla bla and she taught Dog how to etc etc and now they start using it for some reason. Valve puts love, passion, and detail into their games. It's one of the reasons they're so successful. Let them do their thing.

Immigrants are always the first ones to be blamed during recessions. It's a sad fact of life.
