Armour & weapon designs - a plea (part IV).
I agree! While I don't want the devs to go insane with heavy crew-served weaponry these kind of weapons make a lot of sense to kill big monsters. Arbalest crossbows with 700 kilogram draw weights, wall-guns on small carriages, ballistas, maybe even explosive arrows?

Armour & weapon designs - a plea (part IV).
Since we're going to have some firearms I'd love to see a so called ''Hakenbüchse''' (hook gun) featured in the game. We're going to have some high-end extreme fantasy swords and armors in the game so it would be fair to have equally epic firearms, no? Those ridiculous muskets were far bigger and heavier than standard long guns (2-2.5 meters and sometimes even longer) shooting up to 30mm diameter round balls. The distinctive hook on the barrel -hence its name- was meant to be placed in front of a wall or some kind of rampart to prevent the recoil seriously injuring the shooter. Those guns were usually operated by two men and were mainly used to dispatch mortar + cannon crews and crossbow shooters hiding behind light cover at long ranges far exceeding the effective range of long guns of that period. Due to its large caliber it had surprisingly good accuracy considering it was a smooth bore gun, thats why those rifles were equipped with relatively sophisticated iron sights. A huge, cool looking cumbersome and awkward gun with an insane amount of power and good range. Sounds like fun.

Some new years eve pics. Thats how we celebrate it in Austria. Ready to go! Some video stills of the mortar firing the shell. The explosions were very powerful and you could feel the shockwaves standing 20 meters away. Mortar shell exploded into a GIGANTIC firework when they reached approx 400 meters. Some shells created clouds that stayed there for half an hour. Rocket:

New Year Resolutions
I've always wanted to visit Thingvellir (apologies for the spelling Icelandic cousins) and the island of Surtsey, see some of the newest parts of the Earth and the site of one of the first parliaments. Snorri Sturlusson's fault. Just googled it and its looks awesome, maybe I can go there, too. I have to admit I like visiting extremely remote isles. Maybe its because thats pretty much the polar opposite of what I'm used to landscape-wise. I'm also interested in the easter island.

What you did today
Spent 250 bucks on fireworks, the REAL stuff. This new years eve is going to be insane. The only downside is I'm the guy responsible for the fireworks so no drinks for me, but thats a small sacrifice. I also built a crude but effective bore brush for the 15cm mortar made of a towel, a broom handle and some tape. Its necessary to wet-wipe the bore after each shot to prevent getting my arm blown off while reloading a shell that is cooking off from burning residue from the previous shot. Scary thought- I'll also use it to push the shells down the bore. I hate putting my whole arm into a mortar holding a life shell. Ouch. She can go home the same day she had the surgery?

New Year Resolutions
* Not to cut my scalp hair for 365 days * To cut down on sugar and eat more fruits / vegetables * To look (harder) for a GF * To finally visit Iceland. I've always wanted to go there (via ship, to get a sense of its remote location) and make an extended hike from one end of the island to the other while making a gazillion of photos far away from overcrowded tourism areas.

Oh man, I just learned that the recently retired F1-superstar Michael Schumacher had a bad skiing accident and that hes now in a coma with severe head injuries. That sucks, what is it with all my childhood motorsports superstars getting killed off? Richard burns, Colin McRae and now Schumacher? I really hope he makes it.

Today I came across this little sapling which was literally growing out of a rock. Of course, there must have been a tiny crack underneath it, covered by the base of the stem but it looked really cool.

What are you playing now?
Unreal Tournament 3. I've had it on my computer for years though I never really played it because I rather played UT99. That kind of changed today, I gave UT3 another chance and now that I set up the controls perfectly I actually like it The graphics are beautiful and it plays fluid with lots of fps. Looking for mods and maps now.

I full-length-resized, polished, de-burred, trimmed and primered 50 rifle shells. By hand. Now they're ready to be loaded with powder and projectile. And now my hands hurt like hell. Sometimes hand loading ammo doesn't feel much like a hobby, it feels more like hard slave labor.

What you did today
A friend of mine got me a set of extra-long dumbbell bars which I tried to find for a year, now I can easily put 6x 10Kg weights on it without having to be afraid of them coming lose and smashing my face. I put a short bar in front of the long ones for size comparison. Even most pro-gyms don't have these.

Got a severe case of cabin fever and couldn't stay indoors anymore, gave the damn winter weather the finger and went cycling. There was only little snow on the roads, though wearing only cycling shorts and a thin shirt made the winterly biking experience rather cold, especially downhill when going 100+. Even though it wasn't as much fun as I expected it still cured my cabin fever...for now.- The general firearms thread!
