  1. Maybe women would not have been raped if the attackers knew they could be carrying a gun? But they knew the laws and that those women were completely defenseless. Knowing someone could be armed is a very effective deterrent, you don't even have to instigate a shootout or run around guns blazing to have a very powerful defensive effect - simply knowing the potential victims could be armed and could exert lethal force makes dumb people think twice about doing things to their fellow citizen. Ask yourself, if you were a criminal and you had to chose between molesting a female police officer or a female pedestrian - which one would you choose? I wonder if such mass molesting of women could have happened in Texas.
  2. What? No, you can still legally own firearms in Germany if you have been a member of a shooting club for more than one year, you have the required documents and you can prove you need a very specific gun for a specific shooting discipline. Then you get the permission to buy a firearm for this very discipline. You can also only buy one gun in 6 months, and every single gun needs to be justified as previously mentioned. You also need to request some kind of permission from the local police, but I do not remember the exact procedure. I'm pretty sure those guns in the video were legal firearms from competitive law abiding target shooters. *sarcasm off*. German is my first language.
  3. Updated my survival what-if-backpack. Weighs in at a nice 21 kilograms (w/o water). Includes emergency food for 10 days, shelter, multiple fire starter systems , first aid kit, spare clothes, sleeping bag, backpack, ammunition, a machete, cord, a net, a good knife, a 2-man tent, compass, wet weather protection, flashlights, gun cleaning kit + essential spare parts, hygiene articles, a water filter system, a steel pot + cutlery, a flask of blackpowder, survival book (in case I lose my memory lol) etc. Its nice to have a little worst case scenario insurance, but it needs maintenance and updates to stay effective.
  4. Forcibly draft them into an auxiliary force for NATO to topple Assad is one of the better ideas I read today. *nod* Then why don't make them stay and fight for their country in the first place, only taking in women and children until the war is over? *edit* Scratch women and children, lets say only temporarily accept children and those unable to fight, there are many Kurdish women who are more than able to fight. Heck, where are the Ukrainian refugees? I'm pretty sure that pumping all the money and effort into support for Assad instead of into handling the refugee crisis would have had a great positive impact on the war. Every day more infra structure gets damaged, every day that passes the end of the war is moving more and more into distance, every day that passes makes rebuilding more difficult. But instead of helping to win the fight and keeping casualties and damage as low as possible we tell the population of an entire nation to leave their country and move in. And what happens? Chaos, confusion, misunderstandings - and as we all know running away from problems don't make them go away, the war will eventually follow the refugees into their new homes. From all the possible solutions for the Iran crisis the current approach is by FAR the worst one. Heck, I know if my country was under attack by extremists I would stay and fight, and I'm pretty sure everybody would expect that from those who are able to fight, I'm certain the neighboring countries would not take in any deserters. Besides, I probably would not have any other choice anyway, I would be drafted into service and fleeing from my duty, insubordination or desertion would mean court-martial.
  5. Thats easily said if you are not the one who has to make the hard sacrifices of the long hard route. To get a full picture of the consequences of something like mass immigration talk with the rape victims first and tell them such sacrifices are necessary, that its part of a hard long route to peace.
  6. I think it makes it easier, many religious people or people strongly believing in an ideology look down on the ''disbelievers'', treating them badly and committing crimes against them is more justifiable if you see them as inferior beeings. Thats what always happens during wars for example, if troops quit seeing the enemy as an equal human being, strongly advocated by propaganda, brutality increases tenfold.
  7. Watched ''The Revenant'', didn't like it. Don't get me wrong, the film was very well made, the acting was very good too, it simply completely and utterly failed to entertain me. For me, it was one of the least entertaining films I've ever seen. It felt like one of those pointless dramas Clint Eastwood churns out every now and then. ''The edge'' was a better film.
  8. Today I met someone who said lifting more than 20 kilograms is bad for your spine. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA I thanked him for making me laugh and then walked home and did a couple 250kg deadlifts and 100kg standing shoulder presses. Also I played some Return To Castle Wolfenstein - Enemy territory online. A game from 2003 and the servers are so full I got kicked several times. Such a blast.
  9. I might have damaged my little toe on my left foot, somehow - when I walk I feel a hot intense pain and it becomes completely swollen, but that will go away after a few minutes of rest. The strange thing is most of the time when I walk it does not hurt at all and it seems perfectly fine, and then, suddenly out of the blue it hurts and gets swollen like I broke a bone. Gonna ask the doc, but I'm not sure if he can help me, the toe appears perfectly fine when its not going crazy.
  10. Ex Machina. I really liked it despite some things that don't seem very plausible to me. Also maybe I'm strange but I did not feel attracted to ''Her'' at any point in the movie and immediately identified ''her'' as diabolic and manipulating machine.
  11. Spent a couple of hours on making rifle ammo. Soon ammo will be a generally accepted international currency, I tell ya!
  12. He must have had pretty good genes, I think with his lifestyle I would not live past 50. 70 is actually pretty good in this business.
  13. Maaaaaan that sucks, not Lemmy!
  14. Off the top of my head * With my unlimited money I'd found my own space agency, hire all the international professionals and accelerate space exploration by 1000%. * I'd send a cruise missile into Kim Jongs face. * I'd pump my unlimited money into cancer and genetic diseases research. I'd make it my personal goal to rid the world of that crap once and for all ASAP. * I'd establish high security schools in poor countries to boost education. * I'd reorganize the EU parliament and send certain politicians into a Russian labor camp for the rest of their lives where they can try to make amends for the damage and suffering their greed / stupidity has caused. * I'd resurrect the Looking Glass studio so they can make worthy successor games of Thief. Oh they would get tons of my money. * I'd pump tons of cash into the marketing of Strongman competitions to help them get big. Really big. Big as soccer or football. I'd make it become a national sport. * I'd buy huge junks of the alps and rain forests and make them national parks.
  15. Watched it today. Off the top of my head: !!SPOILER!!
  16. Watched Star Wars. Liked it despite some obvious flaws - which are mainly story related. Liked the new actors.
  17. I have been in a similar situation and I swear, I put on my SM-67 gas mask with a new filter. Cleaning it up with that stench in my nose would have been impossible.
  18. # Same here, haven't left the house in over one week. The weather is awful and I don't miss having people around so its not bothering me at all. What I did: heavy deadlifts, squats and core exercises despite a severe headache. I didn't even have to skip any exercises or use lighter weights - once you see it as challenge its not so bad anymore.
  19. I'm dreaming of a Transhumanist future. Soylent Green.
