  1. First of all, I want to say that Pillars of Eternity is one of the best games I've ever played and I'm merely talking about a minor gripe I have with the combat sounds. Back in Baldur's Gate the type of hit sound depended on the weapon and and the armor that was being hit. For example if your character hit an enemy wearing a chain mail you could hear a satisfying ''thump'' with the chainmal clattering. I kind of miss that in PoE, as minor as that detail may seem it made the combat feel more... ''heavy''. I'd love to see that, or rather hear, in PoE.

  2. Completed my 1970's LEGO Can-Am race car. Its my own design, approx 900 parts. Took approx 20 hours to design it and 4 hours to actually build it - but now its finished!
  3. Many do have a some excessive weight on their bellies as well (some a lot because they say it lowers their center of gravity which helps with certain lifts) , but it also happens to those with low body fat. I can see my abs but my core has gotten a little barrel-like. Not to mix up with roid bellies though, thats just disgusting. Competing lifters and bodybuilders often have a massive gut because they're taking growth hormones which also make their bowels grow (and other internal organs like the heart), which increases belly size and abdominal pressure to the point their belly button ruptures. Most body builders had to undergo several belly button surgeries. Don't do drugs, kids. Roid gut exhibit A.
  4. Thats actually a pretty cool device. Can you use it on bald people and lift them around? Ok, then just focus on the most important things, keep back straight and brace your core. The latter is really important and makes all the difference, you inhale, hold your breath, push your belly out and flex it really hard. Then you keep it like that while you lift, it makes the mid section of your body like a solid pillar and protects your back and spine from bending or excessive stress. Belly (abs & obliques) is very important for the back. Thats the reason why weight lifters use lifting belts, they're basically a surface for the belly to push against so there is more pressure and mid section becomes even more stable thus more weight can be lifted. (Thats also the reason why serious natural weight lifters have slightly protruding bellies, its not fat but all protruding abs from core bracing - but don't worry, that only happens from lifts in the several hundred kilos area.) Try it out, it makes a HUGE difference.
  5. If you don't have your feet pointing slightly outwards your knees tend to tilt towards each other (you have legs like an X) which creates a lot of wear and tear at the joints and especially ligaments. I do deadlifts in the 220-250kg area so I do need to know a lot about how to pick up heavy stuff without grinding my joints to dust or ruining my back. You might not be lifting objects as heavy as that, but if you lift parcels several dozen times a day it totally adds up. If you eventually get your ''how to lift properly''-briefing post it, I'm interested in what they're suggesting.
  6. Hey anything below body weight is not even worth mentioning! Good to hear your job is not sucking the life out of you, and it actually sounds like its beneficial to your health so thumbs up! And never forget, when picking up heavy stuff from the floor brace your core (abs and obliques out and flexed), keep your back straight all the time, feet slightly pointed out and look slightly up, never look at the floor or at the object you are picking up. (looking down will make you round your back)
  7. K-19 I'm not a big fan of U-Boat films, but this one is really good. Whenever watching this movie I ask myself if I'd go into a freaking melting reactor to fix it to save my comrades. Not fixing it would result in certain death, and the death of my comrades. Fixing it would result in certain death from radiation sickness which is a quite horrible way to go. Heck, I'd probably freeze in panic.
  8. Egads! I hope it isn't an expensive one. Mine is $100, but I'd lose it if my wife lost hers. Good news! I found it in a trouser pocket earlier today. Unfortunately, I fessed up to my wife last night. The trouser pocket of your secret lover I guess?
  9. I just saw two Sikorsky CH53 flying over my house!
  10. I don't mind the runoffs, but I do agree on the vertical parts, another track I really like - in sims especially - is the Belgian track, with that sweeping right uphill corner that crests into a left. Can't remember the name though =/ Spa! Its awesome too! I'm glad they didn't change it too much of its layout when they modernized it. Many great old tracks were completely butchered to curry favor with the F1 and its completely excessive track safety standards. And I don't like the giant runoff areas because they totally change the track, drivers exploit it and corners suddenly become far less tight and much faster, crushing previous track records with what can be considered cheating. And with too much paved runoff the track start to look like parking lots. Fuji and Silverstone come to mind.
  11. I love it too, a very technical track with its legendary corkscrew corner. What I love the most about it is that it has a lot of vertical variation and tight corners - compared to the Formula 1 tracks which are perfectly flat and have runoff zones that are almost wide as the track itself, which is silly and boring.
  12. I just stumbled across this video, best engine sound I've ever heard. 750 bhp NA 8L V8. Really, play the vid and turn your volume to the max.
  13. Wow, if you work 9 hours / day and add 4 hours of train / bus you're really cutting deep into your life. And if work is so far away it must pay really well because if you consider getting there by car the gas will add up big time. Good luck!
  14. So, I'm pretty much finished with designing my 1970 can-am race car LEGO model. My collection is growing! Now the fun begins, ordering 900 parts brick by brick from various online sources..
  15. Building a new LEGO race car model, approx 1000 parts, just for fun. Had to invent my own steering geometry that allows steering with very narrow tight fitting wheel arches, a notorious problem when building LEGO vehicles. I solved the problem with tilting steering knuckles. So the wheels tilt when they turn which requires much less space than regular steering. The hard part was getting all the angles right and keeping it all small and compact. /Nerd Keep in mind the model is still a veeeery early alpha.
  16. Ate home made chili. It was so hot my burps make my eyes burn.
  17. Yeah. Depending on the oxygen intake setting it can last up to 6 hours or so with one load, and its super warm. I sleep 6-7 hours so I don't have to wake up to refill it. If I use wood I have to refill it every 1.5-2 hours or so and I have to do lots of hauling, not to mention the firewood takes up a lot of space. Last winter I used wood only and my whole garage was filled up to the ceiling. The coal is FAR more efficient.
  18. I think my furnace is possessed. Or haunted. My cats sit in front of it for several hours each day, doing nothing but staring at it. Most of the times they look extremely curious but sometimes frightened. I have thoroughly checked that thing and there is absolutely nothing in there but burned coal remains and dust from last winter. No mice and no signs of any animals, no spiders, no insects, nothing.
  19. Every man should have the knowledge, the skills and equipment required for spending a week outdoors. Thats basic human life knowledge, skills on the same level as basic first aid skills and the ability to defend yourself.
  20. US Marines train with UK royal Marines at the Follingsby training facility. Thats what I call an explosive entry.
  21. Taking a few days off because my biceps tendon hurts a little and I want to give it enough rest for proper regeneration. Its probably nothing but the last thing I need right now is a torn biceps tendon which would mean surgery and having to rest for 10 weeks followed by many weeks of slow rehab. Must have been the hang cleans with the 100kg log bar, but I'm pretty sure my body is going to fix this in a week. All the extra energy not being spent on lifting makes me feel hyper though, but the awful kind hyper. The only good thing about this I always become 10-15% stronger after a couple of days of rest.
  22. Harvested about 50% of my chili because of the possibility of early morning frost. Going to freeze most of them so I can enjoy fresh hot chili in winter.
