  1. I know a guy at the shooting range in his 60's. He has a wild full beard, loves shooting muzzleloaders and is the nicest guy ever. He looks like a time traveling frontier mountaineer from the 1800's, its scary.
  2. The basics are the same. Most people start with a small caliber iron-sighted rifle and work their way up to scoped precision rifle, thats the usual procedure for marksmanship training. Trigger discipline, stance, breath control, heartbeat, patience etc. is required when shooting any rifle.
  3. I love snow. And I have to shovel a lot of it. I still love it.
  4. Today I ate pizza with spinach and goat cheese on it. I As a salami-chili pizza traditionalist I wanted to hate it, but ended up loving it. Who would have guessed that spinach could belong on a pizza?
  5. To be honest; I'd want to deal with semi-professionals, having a clientèle consisting of sweaty 40 year old soccer moms who want to get rid of their baby gut and senior ''athletes'' weighing in at 150kg who want to regain a fraction of their past arthritis-less glory sends shivers down my spine. And that would probably be the reality. For a school teacher that would be the equivalent of having to deal with pre-school classes. Maybe I'm too picky and arrogant for a job such as this.
  6. It appears most lessons are mandatory for the certificate - makes sense, each lesson costs money and the want it all.
  7. I don't have a passion for teaching other people how to do sports either, its just that it would be a lot easier for me than what I'm doing right now. I greatly differentiate between doing stuff to get money and doing what I actually want to do (unless the job is really dreadful and senseless and the negativity starts to bleed into my private time) I'm not one of those guys who seek self actualization in their job or become their job. As for the required education, there are courses that cost about 1500 bucks or so with a total of 86 or so hours worth of units. I informed myself about the content of those classes and - I really don't want to boast- I already know all of it and much, much more. Ironically it really seems like it would make me go way back to the basics where I started 10 years ago. Oh nostalgia! But I'd need that certificate - thats how education works I guess.
  8. I dunno, I'm not lazy but lately every tiny little change feels so big I immediately lose interest in even trying, let alone something more major like changing jobs. Not sure why.
  9. Feel like quitting my job, what I do makes so little sense and I have to work exceptionally hard for the cash. Thinking about getting some official education on the field of fitness and health maybe become a personal trainer of some sort. Not a dream job but I think it would be relatively easy for me, I'm essentially already supervising my friends for free. I remember those trainers in gyms I used to visit as a teen, and boy, what they can do I can do much better with one half of my brain shut down. Radical change is so hard though. Sorry to hear that, yeah I hope that will be the last one. Maybe your dad could see it as wake up call to change his lifestyle?
  10. Tonight at 3 in the morning I went out for a walk to make some winter-esque photos of the night sky. That was surprisingly brutal, 1 hour at -21 degrees / -4F and I barely walked to keep me warm, plus I almost never wore my gloves because I needed my hands to manipulate the small buttons on my camera all the time. My fingers were on fire. I feel like a whimp.
  11. For the past 6 days or so I've been trying to re-install Gran Turismo 6 on my PS3. With the 21(!) updates thats 51 GB's, I downloaded that with the super slow PS network connection that gives me 1.3mb/s. I tried that 5 times already, for each error message I find a workaround I get two more. I'm a very patient man but enough is enough, today I'm going to try to sell it to friends, if nobody wants it I'll bring it to the shooting range give it a reason not to work.
  12. Magic the Gathering Forge. Its a free program where you can play the card game MTG against AI or players with all kinds of decks. I re-created the decks I have in real life and tested them against players and AI. A lot of fun. (I am the guy on the bottom)
  13. In my teens had three root canal treatments without working anesthetic. Imagine someone jamming barbed needles into your nerve, twisting and turning them and pulling out your nerve piece by piece. That was quite an experience, I think thats when I reached my pain limit, the max amount of pain you can feel. Breaking my elbow and jumping on a broken bottle is laughable compared to that.
  14. Maybe you should switch the dentist. I used to go to a dentist that used anesthetics that did not work well on me. He needed twice the dosage, it numbed the pain only for a couple of minutes and half an hour later my tongue got big and hurt like I licked a flat iron. Also, according to my experience, some dentists are unable to locate the nerve with the needle, and then the the pain is only partially numbed. With a good dentist none of those problems should exist. Now I have a doc who can locate and hit the nerve like a sniper, the pain is completely numbed and he works fast and clean.
  15. I got one removed, it was super easy. Local anesthesia, then the doc used a pick, jammed it into the tooth and broke it into three pieces which he then pulled out. Then when he stopped the bleeding I could go home. The whole thing took like 5 minutes. No problem whatsoever. What I did: tried to re-install Gran Turismo 5 in my PS3. I can't play the goddamn game because whenever it tries to download the idiotic 10+GB of updates some error happens and I have to do the whole thing again. Consoles are the worst idea ever.
  16. I would not say the US is the strongest nation in the world, militarily. Like any other military organization they have their strengths and weaknesses, their strength being technology, their weakness not being able to take casualties too well, a certain amount of arrogance and a susceptibility in dealing with asymmetric warfare. Lets not forget in the past 30 years the US had a lot of trouble dealing with opponents with vastly inferior equipment and training.
  17. I use tweezers to keep my face holes clear from excessive fur. Hurts like a youknowwhat but works like a charm.
  18. So now you're saying I'm practically an undead? Whats your problem man!
  19. Thats actually a reflection. As in a deep thinking booger? Don't worry, they are good luck. You seem to have an unhealthy fascination with snot. Is that a thing in underground fetish clubs?
  20. Blake dot? It's no fair to make fun of my mole! My mother always told me the wrapping does not make the gift! In fact, this hurt me so much I decided to get it surgically removed before doing my next 1 rep maximum weight. So much better! 101 kg / 222lbs standing press, maximum weight, no dot.
  21. Today I finally managed to do 8 reps of 88kg / 195lbs standing strict overhead presses with EZ bar. Me happy. ## Now watch the pics 8 more times and you get the idea.
