As much as I love mountain climbing, I'd never do such thing without rope and hooks, this is totally nuts. My fingertips hurt from just looking at those pics.- 488 replies

Core day, a couple of 200kg lifts, followed by 100kg front-squats and now weighted crunches. I'd rather go for a reeeeally long cycling stint though, but its impossible due to the icy roads.

11 people killed at a French satirical Newspaper
Woldan replied to Meshugger's topic in Way Off-Topic
I agree. I disagree with that nutter, as can be seen in the video the bullet exits the target and hits the concrete with force, so it did not shed nearly all of its energy in the target, which isn't that much with a 7.62x39. Its like shooting bowling pins, even with a high powered rifle they barely tip over at best while the bullet just zings through them. In one of the pics, right next to the guy who received a head shot are some recovered projectiles, with one that hit something sideways and got its lead core squished out at its open bottom. If a bullet has an open bottom it cannot be a HP or soft point. Only FMJ's have open bottoms with exposed lead cores. The recovered bullets look like regular FMJ but its indeed hard to be certain without having really clear pics. I do not believe in any of those conspiracy theories though, those are just my observations. -

What amazes me is the accuracy, the guy is not aiming at all and hits a moving head while running. Conspiracy or not, thats hard to do even at very close ranges like this. Anyone who disagrees should try running and shooting without aiming. About the terminal ballistics of typical head shot wounds from rifles, I could post pictures but that would certainly be against the forum rules. Just use google picture search: ''Nuevo Laredo Mexican Drug Cartel Gun Battle'' Be advised, its really not for the faint of heart but shows what it looks like when a 7.62x39 and .223 hits a human skull. -

Full metal jacket ammunition can have very explosive effects if its a rifle round, at velocities in excess of 700 meters a second bullets will yaw and tear apart even though they're technically not expanding ammunition. I've read books about German snipers in WWII, they photographed the enemies they killed, oftentimes their head was almost completely blown apart. The ammunition used was FMJ rifle ammunition. FMJ rifle ammunition does not make wound channels like a lazer beam, and thats especially true when bone is struck. As far as I know the terrorists used AK47s in 7.62x39, an intermediate rifle round. Those are not know to be extremely explosive but they can be. -
Everything is possible, but it would be a major pain in the butt to haul that engine over here. I've been thinking about a small portable steel I-beam. If I shot water jugs I'd need like 15 or so. Maybe with a wetpack (compressed wet newspaper) behind the steel beam to simulate an armored target? I've read the book about the German WWII Sniper Sepp Allersberger and he was astonished by the effect of explosive ammunition which he used in desperate situations. Now seeing the effects its even more nasty, this war truly sucked for both sides. Interesting video, its amazing how much explosives you can pack into a little round. Just imagine an MG42 gun with a belt of those, absolute terror for the people downrange. The fun thing is originally it was intended for the machine guns for sighting it in purposes, you'd see the small explosions in the far distance and adjust windage and elevation accordingly. Thats actually the job of the tracers but those are hard to see at day.

Its especially helpful in the mountains as the sun reflecting from the rocks can produce a lot of unwanted close proximity light sources making the picture appear hazy. If you want to have a much smaller shade you can get a honeycomb filter. People also use them on rifle scopes.

Testing my new Fujifilm XM-1 with my 16-50 objective. Downsizing and uploading kind of botched the quality, especially the color transitions, happens sometimes, but its still nice I think. My new camera:

If that happens I will retract my previous post.

The best milk I've ever drunk was in Iceland, from the factory called MS, the milk was called ''Nimyölk'', or thats what was printed on the pack, but I think they import it from Sweden. In 10 days I've only seen a handful of cows there, and those weren't milk cows.

Well, but we can always use the accident-ratio to gauge the irresponsibility of a craftsman, right? Well, I never had an accident at my workplace. Now tell me, from behind your computer how irresponsible I am and how dirty my workplace is. I'd love to have more insight over my workplace and its lack of tidiness, its always lovely to get judged from a complete stranger behind a computer. Why would I need those links, I know it works because I do it on a daily basis and I know others who work in a not so tidy work environment. You are always welcome to visit my country and watch me and my crafty friends work and gather some first hand experience. I'll teach you how to refurbish a 135 year old gun stock, without suffering any injuries. A great deal? Oh my, I would have noticed that I think, especially with my tight exercise schedule, a serious injury would have thrown me back for months if not more, yet I'm at my peak. How odd. But please tell me what you remember of this ''Accident'', I love hearing stories about me that never happened. Also if I were careless I would be a very dangerous gun owner! But oddly people trust me at the firing range, heck, they even assign me to range officer duties where I have to take care that no accidents happen and thats with 35 armed men and women at the shooting range, many new to firearms. I also instruct the shooters who to handle their weapons in a safe manner to prevent accidents. If anything happens I'm responsible, by law. I've been a trusted member and firearms instructor at the firing range for over ten years now, which is pretty strange for an irresponsible clumsy person with Parkinson. And If I suffered from Parkinson disease I couldn't be that successful in lifting weights, neither could I make gun stocks with my bare hands, another case of you not knowing what you're talking about. of course, those who are more active are also more accident prone, thats just the way it is. I think I'm automatically more prone to accidents due to my hobby of climbing high mountains. Does this make me a clumsy klotz with Parkinson? I think not. But remembering things that didn't happen is an early sign of dementia, and thats the truth. Odd, I feel pretty good for being beyond help, are you sure thats the case? I've seen people who were truly beyond hope, they didn't have beautiful lives.

I'm a milk drinker too, 0.5-1 liter / day easily, but usually I mix it with cocoa powder. We should make a prostate-wreck-group. I've also heard milk increases the likelihood of getting kidney stones, so we even have a choice.

Yes, its a straight pull action, the predecessor of the K31, the Gewehr 1911. As its name says, it was designed from 1911 till 1918 I think. It has a massive straight pull action which is a joy to operate, I polished and tweaked it so now it can be operated with two fingers now, its that smooth. I also refurbished the entire stock and oiled it, it made an astonishing difference. Its one of the most accurate ordnance rifles, for already 100 years it has been locked in a head-to-head duel with the Swedish Mausers. Sadly not, I cannot think of any good target medias. It would probably simply zing through anything I can get my hands on, with little effort.

Why, no need, I never let my workplace become so dirty that it is unsafe to work there, I don't know what make you think I do but I already said so in the last ''what you did'' thread, and several times in my earlier posts. When a workplace becomes so dirty that it becomes unsafe it already prevents proper use of tools anyway and its no longer a workshop, a shop where work can be done. However, I do not care if it is dirty and messy. There is a difference you see? Also, I've already seen clean yet highly unsafe workplaces. But you are also saying that I had so many accidents in my workshop, I don't know from which parallel-universe you are getting your informations, the worst I could do is cutting myself with a chisel or squishing my finger in my reloading press since I do not work with electric equipment (ok, I work with the drill, very rarely). And those things could happen in the cleanest environment. Now everything makes sense. If I remember the last two hearings I had to participate in, as witness....

Maybe its just me, I'd rather trust someone who has 8 years of experience and lots of success in a certain profession than someone who criticizes said person with absolutely zero experience. In this case your opinion has no value. Compared to what or whom? You? Do you even know how much time I spent crafting? Or how little? And with what kind of tools I work with? And what kind of accidents I had? Unless you have access to those informations you saying that I have many accidents is unfounded drivel. But I expected no less. And a fun fact: I've never injured myself in my workshop, which makes this whole discussion and your assumptions unfounded and meaningless. I know two decent craftsmen who do wonders, and their workplace is dirty and messy. One is a gunsmith who builds rifles who is a good friend of mine. I'm also happy with my results, and my cleaning schedule cannot be described as obsessive. So my experience tells me workplace tidiness is not required to be a good craftsman. I'd love to see you teach the gunsmith how to be a proper craftsman. *chuckles* Read above.

This is the first time I've ever had anything more serious than a slight infection or influenza. As for the people asking what it is. It started as a small infection in the lungs that spread to the brain by a case of rare bad luck. The scary part was that the doctor pointed out, if the first 24 hours hadn't gone as well as they did I would've had a 10-15% chance of dying despite treatment, but now I'm in the clear.. Phew Ros, in the case my post looks like I'm criticizing your lifestyle for contracting this serious illness, or if it seems like I'm saying that my lifestyle is better than yours, thats definitely not the case and it wasn't specifically aimed at you or anyone. Get better and don't waste your time with us fools here, right now the last thing your brain should be exposed to is the madness in here. Those are very valid sources which are almost identical to mine, I know people with a degree in micro biology with a specialization in kidney diseases. (With their knowledge the life of my sick cat which suffered from near-kidney failure could be prolonged by two years) But mainly a lot of highly praised books.
-
A good stance, but where do you get your scientific consensus from? Getting reliable sources is the problem. I can only think of a handful of valid and proven sources for, for example, medical consensus .

Maybe I'm not really interested in what you're saying anymore because mostly you speak from things you have little experience in and base everything you say on theories yet tell people how to do certain things they've been doing for years very successfully. Like I told you before, I've been a successful craftsman who is happy with what he makes. Thank you for literally telling me that I'm an idiot and no good because I have a different philosophy on cleaning my workplace but thank you. What was your job again? I do not remember but I'm certain you weren't doing it properly. Let me tell you, in the most unpleasant manner I can manage, what you've been doing wrong for so many years:....... Or maybe its the person on the other end of the line who is the faulty observant? Naturally, I trust myself more. I value personal experience, my own observations, over what people say on the Internet. I consider advice and other peoples view on this media, if my personal experience says something different I'll make further investigations. In the meantime I'll base my future decisions on my observations and experiences. About turning 30: I'm 3.8 years shy of turning 30, my logic says I wont suddenly develop a man-menopause in ~1400 days, there aren't any kind of signs or even hints of drastic change, my observations of close friends and family members who turned 30 support my logical thinking. Secondly age is a very vague and very individual thing, 30=/=30. 2 people on the Internet say things will get ugly when turning 30. Conclusion: further investigation required, for now for me the validity of that statement is highly questionably at best. May be special cases.

Shot with a 100+ year old rifle at 100 meters, with my own reloads, still need a smaller front sight though. And I refinished its stock, it was badly dented.

Thanks for pointing that out, I would have never guessed..... I should use more smiley's. And I know people who turned 30, years ago, I have not noticed any fundamental changes neither mentally nor physically. Guess age is just a number after all.
-
Good thing I'll be 30 for only 365 days. Oh, but I'm perfectly aware of what irony is, thats why I asked you where the irony in your post is. If you had understood me maybe then you'd have realized that there is tiny difference in eating spoiled cooked meat filled with bacterial toxins and a live bacterial meningitis infection, a tiny difference that kind of makes it non-irony.

The last couple of years I visited 6 festivals with 30.000 - 180.000 visitors, the last one with the 180k visitors with a tent sharing only a handful disgusting portable toilets with thousands of other people while eating junk food in the blistering heat of the summer for 4 days. And I often go the mall and visit the theater. Not to mention airports and traveling. I have faced and I am facing as many germs as any other person in my age. Oh, but you've always been so talkative and eager to share your wisdom! This makes us me sad. And my immune system protecting me from bacterial toxins - it evidently did.
