  1. What I'm doing: I'm about to go do my weekly visit to the shooting range, 4 hours of honing my rifle skills, yay. What is ''flashing a Motherboard''? / noob question
  2. I love shooting 22's just as much as the big rifle calibers, so much fun, so cheap, no feeling of guilt from barrel wear, but don't ever make the mistake of underestimating the 22 because its so small and sounds like a pellet gun. I've shot sub sonics out of my rifle into stacked wooden plates, while it was so quiet I could hear the ''TWANG!'' of the firing pin the bullet penetrated 3 centimeters of wood and punched a surprisingly big hole into the earth back stop behind it. I also shot a full beer can with a HP and that tiny bullet ripped it to shreds. 3cm of tough wood is nothing to sneeze at, that will definitely go into someones skull and exit it. According to my book about urban sniper tactics in Chechnya snipers used the .22lr to great effect in dense urban environment, especially at night. The Russian soldiers called it the ''night death'' because the insurgents would use them mainly at dawn & night night to shoot Russian patrols into the groin, thigh or face. They were so silent detection was nearly impossible, no muzzle blast, no dust kicking up, silent muzzle report, no supersonic crack. Those weren't just deadly on those shot but also on the morale. Conclusion : the .22lr is far more deadly and effective than it looks.
  3. This looks quite good actually. Not nearly enough information to form a valid opinion on it though.
  4. The past 3 months I've been experimenting with dumbbell shrug drop sets, one armed, twice a week. Most people don't really care about the upper trapezius muscles but that exercise has single handedly improved my dead lifts, overhead presses and bench presses. It definitely deserves being mentioned as one of the best and sadly most overlooked exercises ever. Most people underestimate its role as static stabilizer. And as side effect it has given me big traps too. So if you have troubles increasing your dead lift or bench press and you don't know why your ''neck'' might be your problem.
  5. Drank some pear Schnapps because I'm out of rum. A lousy replacement, the only beverage I love is pure rum.
  6. ''Fun'' eye related fact, I know several people who got a lens separation/shift from shooting rifles with too much recoil, they literally couldn't see straight anymore. So next time a friend of yours offers you to shoot an elephant rifle with killer recoil - think again. And get your eyes checked after accidents that involved a lot of G's.
  7. I have an ugly appointment tomorrow but it has to be done, no way around it. I wish there was a button for a ''no feelings and emotions'' mode, it would find so much use.
  8. Huh, I have one in my right eye, I always thought its just air bubbles in the tear fluid.
  9. The massive detonation is of course caused by the chemicals / ammunition / ammo propellants in the plant, but its still exactly how I imagine a small tactical nuke explosion looks like outside a test area. 6 kilometers away and it still bursts the windows. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMswNtfnKNI
  10. Man I just bent the pin that holds the beck rest of my weight bench in place, thank the gods it did not snap during my bench press. Well, now I know what I'm going to do with this months excess money.....ha ha ha.
  11. Ok. Just to summarize, for ~1K I recommend either the the Romanian PSL in 7.62x54 with a POSP Scope or a Saiga in .308 with a POSP, which is also more or less a Dragunov clone. Its easier to find high quality ammunition in .308 though and the Saiga also runs in the 900-1100 area. In the 2k+ area I recommend either the FN-SCAR (I've heard they're hard to find in the US) or the M1A with an EBR or McMillan stock. There are millions of good stock and chassis options. I do not recommend the Bushmaster (AR-Type) in .308 since a friend of mine has one that is an insufferable jam-o-matic and a b!tch to maintain. I told him to go with the Saiga but he did not listen. If you have question about scopes you can always ask me, I don't want to boast but I have tons of experience with optics.
  12. Oh, the budget limit automatically rules out The m1a and the FN SCAR, both run in the 2000-3000 area. The PSL (Dragunov Clone)would fit all your requirements perfectly if you'd be happy with 1.5-2'' groups at 100yds.
  13. So what do you want exactly, a semi auto or a bolt gun? Main target accuracy? Reliability and low maintenance? Or just fun shooting with decent accuracy? Budget limit? What about the M1A in an EBR chassis? Or an FN SCAR? Swiss Gewehr 1911, 7.5x55 Swiss, mine was made between 1914-1918 if I remember correctly. The workmanship is unbelievable-
  14. Nothing wrong with that either, but don't burn all the money on the rifle and get a cheap scope, the weapon system needs to be balanced in order to work properly. Plan on spending at least 800-1000 on a good scope.
  15. One of the regular Ruger Bolt actions with bull barrel in .308? They're not well known for their accuracy, their bolt travel is really rough and the receivers and bolts are cast and not forged. if I wanted an accurate bolt action rifle I'd look elsewhere. I had several rifles from Savage and they all had unreal accuracy. They all shot groups the size of my index finger nail out of the box at 110yds and the trigger is sweet. If you want to go for accuracy consider the Savage FCP-K in .308 and replace that flimsy crap stock with an AI chassis.
  16. Get yourself a Romanian PSL 7.62x54 Dragunov Clone with a 4x POSP and have more fun than you deserve. Don't forget to get mags for even more fun.
  17. Not sure about the pros not filming, I've seen US Marines with similar combat behavior and those are considered to be pretty good. Actually, the only time I saw footage of soldiers carefully aiming their rifles, switching from cover to cover and using tactics like you'd expect from professionals was the French foreign legion fighting in Africa. I've always held a deep respect for those guys. Dammit, I knew there was something wrong with my sentence right when I typed it but couldn't quite put my finger on it.
  18. Same here, I found it extremely refreshing.
  19. Those groups are from a center fire rifle, to compare it to my recent .22lr groups. 22lr -as far as I know- is not re-loadable because of the heeled bullet and the way it is crimped, not to mention the rimfire primer. (Though I'm sure someone somewhere tried it) I found that subsonic are more accurate out of my rifle than the high velocity ammo. My theory is that ammo rated at 1300 fp/s (HV) has slowed down to subsonic velocities (According to my calculations with a BC of 0.130) at about 60yds, the transition from super to subsonic velocities causes turbulences which will decrease accuracy by a fair amount. Thats why a lot of 22's shoot great at 50ysd but pattern like shotguns at 100 which is common for high velocity 22's. If lob bullets that are sub sonic right from the beginning there is no transition. Though I've heard of very accurate supersonic 22lr's, but match shooters usually use subs. All that of course is a non-issue if we're talking about center fire calibers which will go from super to sub sonic at about 800-1200yds. Good soil is a blessing! The soil around here sucks, its sucked dry and acidic but I'm hoping my own bio-fertilizer from old compost will improve things. Especially zucchini benefit a lot from good soil, the tough parsnips don't really seem to care though.
  20. Scope at 10x, and I think those groups are not so great. I usually shoot like this with my handloads at 100 meters (5 shots): Holes not touching = no-go. The 22lr has definitely less accuracy potential than center fire calibers. Big thumbs up! I wish I could start preparing my garden, I have to dig several new acres for my parsnips but my garden is covered by a 50cm layer of ice and snow.
