Wish granted, ordinary Mosin Nagant put in a new tacticool stock.

Jössas na, was macht'n soa Bergdeutscha da? I agree. While I'm not a huge fan of Skyrim I have to say I enjoyed the multiple armor slots and being able to wear mis-matched armor a LOT. Wearing an iron breast plate and only mild leather gear (Boots, leather gloves) made roleplaying my wayfaring adventurer so much better. I really didn't want to equip this character with a complete suit of iron or even ebony armor; I tried but it didn't feel right.

Yeah, its the No4 Mark 2, the best of the Enfield rifles. That model is a post-war model made for the Irish but the Brits never shipped them and sold them in the 70's, this particular model I believe was made at the Fazakerley plant and is equipped with the long range Parker Hale peep sight. Match-grade sights, smooth super fast bolt, powerful round, 10 round magazine, quick stripper clips, this rifle is definitely effective. The stock doesn't look odd to me, in fact its extremely comfortable even for a tall-ish guy like me.

I agree, most of the new plastic wonders don't just look crude and ugly, they feel like toys in my hands. The plastic parts bend, don't feel solid, they balance strangely, they rattle when shaken, stamped parts everywhere...eww. I take this.... .....over this any day.

Translations
Woldan replied to jerf's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No no, don't put words in my mouth, what I'm saying is that translations are for the impious and feeble minded! All people of the master race can speak and understand English perfectly, and thats all that matters! -

Pretty much everyone speaks English nowadays, translations have become so unimportant that I'm surprised that game companies still spend a vast amount of money on voiceovers in many different languages for their games - for a very tiny minority. Don't get me wrong, translations can make sense for games aimed at a young audience, kids, but games for adults? There's subtitles. -
As I suspected. Even though its not necessary at all having a slightly more complex armor system would have been really nice; I've always thought that this is one of the few areas in oldschool-style RPGs where an upgrade could be made. Though I'm definitely not a RPG rules guru so I cannot foresee what kind of complex problems and difficulties the developers would have to overcome to implement such armor system.

I've always loved the the M1Garand, the M1A and the M1 carbine, especially the paratrooper version of the latter. Sadly the government of my beloved country does not allow me to own said rifles for a bunch of reasons that do not make any sense at all.

A question just popped into my head, do we know if PE will feature armor consisting of several parts like breastplate, arms, legs? Has there been any official word on this? I just looked at a few 16th and 17th century armor designs and thought it would be neat to be able NOT to equip each character with a complete suit of armor covering her/him from head to toe in metal. Not practical you say? Absolutely! Many mercenaries at that time couldn't afford a complete custom made suit of armor so they only protected the vital areas like chest, thighs and parts of their arms with armor. Also a lot of foot soldiers were equipped with half-armor / munitions armor - a mass produced kind of plate armor that only covered the vital areas, not the whole body. This would make a lot of sense if complete suits of armor in PE were really expensive. (as expensive as they should be) Munitions armor, half-plates, three-quarter armor, mercenary armor etc. Like this:

@ True Neutral Sorry to hear that, hope everything goes well. What I did today? Soul crushing seemingly never ending office work for a salary thats barely enough to keep myself and my guns fed. To get my anger and frustration out of my system I did my favorite weight exercises today, 3 sets of 8 350 lbs barbell shrugs and 2 sets of one armed 160 lbs t-bar shrugs to hit the neck really hard. I love neck exercises. Sold a Mauser 98 FR-8 308Win to buy a longer version (not the carbine version) of this rifle: As much as I love black tacticool modern rifles, nothing beats old simple military surplus warhorses, wood and steel, they just work and they're on the very top of my ''aesthetically pleasant things'' - list.

This looks like a special diet plan to increase your weight by 225 kilograms in seconds.
-
Yeah, but I had to sell a murderously good gun!

Sold a rifle to buy....a new rifle. Whats astonishing is I sold the rifle 10 minutes after I decided to get rid of it, and the price was not to shabby either. Thats a new record!

27 Celsius is a pretty average summer day temperature here in Austria, but we usually have a week or two with 37 Celsius (thats 98F I think).

Whats ''rather warm'' in England? 10° Celsius? Just above freezing?

Then I can wholeheartedly recommend you the book ''in Stahlgewittern'' (Storm of steel), the enthralling diary of Ernst Jünger, a (slightly fanatic) German troop officer in WWI ( ISBN 0-86527-310-3) - yes, there exists a translated version of this book, I think Amazon international sells them. One hell of an exciting book, he served in WWI from the beginning to its very end. Bruce, whats your second language? There exists tons of good German literature so its definitely a language worth learning. I'm a lucky bastard and can read manuscripts and books written by both sides of the conflict.

Man of steel. Despite the fact that I despise super hero movies and comics a simple good old curiosity made me watch this one. While not touching my favorite movies by a long shot I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of said film. Sure, I had to ignore plot holes and mildly illogical scenes and the last third of the movie consisted of so much action it made my visual cortex bleed, but those downsides left aside the rest was decent. CGI was wonderful, the Krypton designs and tech was great, the acting was solid (except Amy Adams, man she was pathetic), the hoops the director had to jump through story-wise to make Superman modern and less dumb without betraying the original story/concept was very funny - and it worked. And Faora (Antje Traue) totally made the movie. I enjoyed every scene she was in.

The pilgrims are from all over the world. When they return home, carrying the virus... Just another very unpleasant (soon) widespread microbe we can add to the already huge collection. I'm not particularly scared now. Wake me up when a mutated H5N1 version is raging in the streets.

Woodcut porn. Gives the historian in me a hard-on.

There are tens of thousands of influenza deaths each year, why am I supposed to have a creepy feeling about this little fella?

That sounds like an interesting read, you should have bought the book right away. Contrary to popular belief able executioners at that time were highly regarded professionals, sometimes they were so popular they offered their service to nobles and even kings on an international level. Renaissance, my favorite time period! Knights, early blackpowder firearms, beautiful architecture, stunning colorful clothing, epic battles....whats not to like!
-
Sure, why not. When I'm finished with the book I could write a little review of it with some of the most interesting passages and quotes translated into English.

Just ordered this book from Amazon. Its not just an ordinary book but the diary of Peter Hagendorf, a mercenary who participated in the thirty year war, 1618-1648. In the book he describes the battles, his injuries (he was hit two times in the chest by matchlock musket bullets!), the horribly long marches across Germany (at the end of the war he had covered 20.000 Kilometers by foot), soldiers marauding cities, famine, even some details about his personal life like his wifes illness and the death of his children. And all that in beautiful old German (which is kind of hard to read sometimes, I have to admit)

^ One of my favorite tracks from NIN's Ghost album. I've always like Ghost #35, and this remix makes it so much better.
