  1. Doesn't really answer my question but good enough. I'll infer you believe you'd stick to silently consuming instead of complaining thus you're position is consistent. That said you'd apparently stay silent in a culture where glorifying child-rape is normative. You monster. Really I'm indifferent to the GTA5 shebackle as I know basically nothing about it; what I'm more annoyed by is the continuous support for silent ethical consumerism as a means of change. It's an almost entirely useless strategy.
  2. Seeing that you're dodging the question then I'm going to assume you too have limits to the 'silent consumer' position or at least advocate arbitrary standards of rules. The plausibility of the scenario is unimportant. We're testing the consistency of the position itself. This is a pretty basic way to examine an argument.
  3. Sure they are. Does he actually support content being decided purely by silent consumer choices or does he have his own standard he wishes enforced? Would it having millions of dollars in marketing affect his perception of its production/distribution? What if it became really popular and the majority of games followed suit featuring simulated child-rape, would he still silently buy from an ever decreasing market of non-rape games or would he say "What the ****? Piss of with the rape."
  4. Chugging a box of doughnuts a day is pretty unhealthy.
  5. Would you support a child-rape simulator? A holocaust simulator?
  6. What about Western (Yank) aggression and interference?
  7. The mage-Templar thing has been handled far better than expected. Shame it still seems to fly over the majority of people's heads (at least from what I've seen on the BSN).
  8. I don't really follow tumblr's political ****-flinging but I'm aware her notoriety is not really a recent phenomenon. Her twitter certainly shows her to be an adult, plus I do recall seeing this picture of her with her alleged ex Matt Heimbach (some white nationalist crypto-nazi type) doing the rounds. I always mis-type it when trying to sign in.
  9. Nope, just a crazy right-winger. Doesn't justify the rape threats though.
  10. Yeah, combat is complete and total arse. And it's a bug ridden mess too. Still probably the best Bioware game I've played in years though. I didn't even think devs even did that anymore. I thought we'd all realised consoles are trash and moved to focusing on the PC. How naïve of me.
  11. Anyone know if there's any significant difference between recruiting the Templars as full allies and recruiting the Templars but having the order disbanded? Latter seems more sensible but I'm not sure if the game interprets that as "mages run free".
  12. Better yet, realise the hand you have been given is colossally uneven, exploitive and reliant on your subjugation and thus instead of conforming to it, realise it is in your better interests to abolish it. I don't know whether I should consider hilarious or scary that questioning the status quo is considered the position lacking in critical thinking. Are you under the impression that women all coincidently started shaving their armpits in the 20's and their legs in the 40's with absolutely no social or cultural forces impacting this? What a coinkydink! EDIT: Trueneutral's post will require actual effort. I'll respond later.
  13. Or you know, societal structures expect women to conform to certain standards of beauty and have socialized them into wanting to conform to those standards of beauty. I know this thread is basically a circle-jerk, but come on, this is pretty basic stuff.
  14. Was somewhat amused to see hetero males having the least amount of options.
  15. As was the topic at hand. If they lower a game score because it doesn't follow their moral or political outlook they were evidently not 'apolitical'. Literally no other journalists are held to this standard. As I suspect this is just a backlash to the raising prevalence of SJW content in game journalism.
  16. He's probably one of the easiest to use though. Hate versing Shao Kahn and not being able to spam a cheap projectile.
  17. Yup, now I’m responding with a near two week old memory of it. Seeing as she’s keeping her critique very basic and broad I honestly thought whole section was an odd trail to go down. I understand her sentiment that if you can do something in a game it to at least some extent encourages you to do it (games are an interactive medium) however these examples were pretty poor representations of violence against women. She wasn’t calling Fallout: New Vegas a misogynist game she was highlighting what she believed to be a misogynist trend using content from FO:NV as an as an example. True yet unimportant. Everyone is “biased”. She has been upfront with her feminism and is presenting a critique from a feminist perspective. That’s the best you can ask for. Are we aware of the time she spent playing the games? For the most part it came across as if she had played the games. Yeah I only watched her videogame stuff. Don’t care nearly enough to bother watching everything else. Such as? So far she’s just highlighted poor representation of females in games wherein they’re little more than background eye candy or a ****ty plot device to drive the plot forward. I honestly doubt Anita believes changing the representation of women in games is going to have any significant impact on women’s station elsewhere. In my opinion, seeing that such poor representation is present in basically every other facet of life it seems sensible to deduce that poor representation is part of a larger societal problem. Critiquing representation of females in games and advocating a higher quantity and quality is not censorship.
  18. Like what? I sat and watched the series the other day (I was procrastinating) and found it to be the most painfully inoffensive thing I've ever seen. The fact that this excruciatingly moderate critique that constantly feels the need to coddle the viewer (e.g. this does not make the game itself sexist, this does not make the game creators themselves sexist, enjoying these games does make you sexist etc) garnered this much backlash is a testament to how reactionary the so-called "games community" is.
