  1. That's something I have noticed too. But then again, that's the way FMVs were in K1, the dream sequences and stuff, real lo-res. So that's really not a game fault. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks for reminding me! I'd forgotten about that, the thing is, in K2, those sequences are longer and more elaborate, so the lo-res is more noticable I guess. Anyway, I just finished the game. One crash. Excellent game. But yeah, I wish they'd have included an influence gage myself.
  2. I played this game for several days, with several marathon sessions. I had one crash. No missing feats, could've been spelling errors but if so they weren't so major as to overshadow the gameplay. The problem isn't the game, its substandard PCs trying to run the game. You should know that when they say "minimum requirements", they really mean your hosed and the games gonna have trouble if you don't exceed the suggested reqs. Every company does this, its part of the business, has been for quite a while.
  3. Bugs? Just finished from start to end(over several days of marathon play), and I had one crash. What bugs? For an unpatched game I can live with that. There were a few things I'd have liked of course, getting my lightsaber sooner being number one. A Jedi does NOT wield a sword. But the character interaction in this thing helped to make up for that. An excellent game and worth the cash I spent.
  4. I've read the Tales of the Jedi. Come to think of it, they lost most of the true Masters during the war with Kun and Qel Droma. I guess the remaining Jedi were bitter old men who hated the fact that they'd lost their youth, and decided to hide from life rather than deal with it. Being the sadists they were, they came up with those happy rules the Council in K1 and K2 follow. From there, mindwipes"for your own good" aren't that big of a leap. Personally, I'd still like to think Bastila didn't go there to mindwipe Revan, but then I think of what that governor on Taris says before you kill him,"Spoken like a true drone of the Jedi Council." *sigh* Another illusion shattered. Next thing you know someone will try to tell me theres no Santa.
  5. I haven't read the chronicles. Y'know, I really wanted to give the Council the benefit of the doubt. Credit them with a LITTLE humanity. However, it sounds kinda cut and dry as to what they did. No wonder Vrook is like he is, he's just one symptom of a greater cancer. That probably explains why there are no Jedi left as well, the Force is cleaning its own house.
  6. Maybe a little off topic, but also something to consider in the overall picture. I doubt the padawan Bastila made it all the way to Revan without his help. He wanted her there, he wanted her to watch the team she led get slaughtered by him, and then he wanted to capture her and turn her. Malak may have known this, or guessed it, and figuring he was on his way out, fired on his master's ship. Afterall, she was a much bigger asset than Malak. As for the mindwipe, I just replayed that part awhile ago. Bastila said parts of his mind were to badly damaged to be repaired, though she never indicates she actually did the psychic surgery, just a little healing to keep him alive till she got him to the council. I got the impression the majority of her information came from the council.
  7. Interesting, we seem to have more EU variance. Quote from Tales of the Jedi Companion(the original Star Wars game that the D20 version gets a lot of its background from): The Miraluka closely resemble humans in form, although they have non-functioning, milky-white eyes. P.101 Normally, I'd say that maybe by Luke's era they lost the eyes, evolution or somesuch, but since Visas is the last I guess thats out. Unless of course they didn't all get killed.
  8. So its like I feared then eh? Ah well, depressing news like that would get me down normally. Luckily I'm so jazzed that I have less than a month to wait, that it doesn't affect me. Much.
  9. As I understand it, some of the bugs found in the Xbox will be fixed when the PC version arrives. Has anyone heard anything specific on this? As in what problems can we expect to have fixed, will any other quests be added, etc.? Or is this something Obsidian is frantically working on with no idea of what will and won't get fixed?
  10. When you consider the technology level of the movies, and compare it with the tech level of both the comics and kotor games, you sort of wonder why there isn't a bigger gap. I think that "something big" that happened lead to a dark age. That would give them an out as far as consistency and who had what first is concerned. Although I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for an official call on that...
  11. No, it isn't ok for a drunk to kill my family, it also isn't entirely his fault. Say you come home and find your wife doing the nasty with another man. You grab your gun and shoot him. Things go to trial and you walk. Why? Temporary insanity. You lost it and weren't in control. Should you be put on death row because you had a human reaction and couldn't control it? Of course not, you should be given a second chance. Fined heavily, and given a second chance. Not only a good idea, its the law... As for Ulic, didn't they both have those forhead marks signifying lordship? Its been awhile since I read those books. And yeah, he died to gain redemption(left no body ala Obi-Wan), but he was redeemed. If the force believes in redemption, thats good enough for me.
  12. Where does this decades idea come from? It took Luke a couple weeks. A month tops. I think the whole decades bit is learning philosophy, not learning to control the force.
  13. Getting a second chance is what being a Jedi is all about. No one is perfect, everyone makes mistakes, so yeah, he deserved a second chance. As for war crimes, he certainly committed many atrocities while under the influence of the darkside, but under the influence is the operative term. If a drunk driver isn't responsible for his actions, neither is a fallen jedi. From what I've read, once you give in to the darkside you have very little control over your actions, other than having a choice of methods while killing someone. A wise Jedi master once said,"Once you start down the dark path there is no turning back. Only through." He was talking to Ullic Cel Droma. Ullic became a Sith Lord, was even indirectly responsible for detonating a sun and destroying a solar system. He was Exar Kun's co Sith Lord(yep, there were two at the same time). Exar died, but Ullic was redeemed in the end. So Revan's second chance isn't exactly new. When all is said and done, it comes down to why Revan fell in the first place. If it was because of a petty love of power, no, he doesn't deserve a second chance, under the influence or not. But, I've always hoped he wasn't that common, that he had good intentions that lead him down a rough road with little choice. Of course, if I were a Jedi, I'd give him a chance regardless of what his reasons were.
  14. Huh??? No, I haven't played the game, but, uhmm, are you sure? Why would anyone play a guardian then? Thats the whole point, more feats, and easier to hit the target! Whose idea was this? GAH! Thanks for pointing that out for me, I'll keep it in mind when the PC version arrives and I can finally play.
  15. K1 at least(haven't played K2 yet), is WAY off as far as Jedi attitude goes. K1 Jedi attitude/morals/etc. come from the movies, not Tales of the Jedi comic books. Back then, Jedi were a lot like Texas Rangers of the old west. At least the rangers from stories at any rate. Master Jeth sent Cay, Ullic, and Tott to Onderon to "fix" things. He didn't want them to resort to violence if they could avoid it, but it was always an option. In fact, his battle meditation turned the tide at one point. "There is no emotion, there is peace", yeah, right, theres also a lightsaber. Love is forbidden?? Not back then. Jedi families were quite common. In fact, after Nomi Sunrider arrives on Onderon she and Cay(or was that Ullic?) start eyeing one another like dogs in heat. That affair didn't end well, she severed his ties to the force and accidentally made it permanent. Anyway, if you can read the comics, definately a 4 color affair, but a decent read if you can find them.
  16. Being a guy I naturally prefer to play a male Revan. That, and I like the story between Bastilla and him. Usually I prefer Ls, well, ok, I always prefer LS. I tried going DS female, never made it past Kashyyk. Oddly enough, I seem to be one of the few guys who didn't want to kill Carth. At any rate, I heard somewhere that a LS male Revan was the default design, so I suppose thats one very big reason the story seemed to flow better when palying that way.
  17. High level characters are difficult to plan for, true. However, since we have this "Major Threat" beyond the rim, there should be no problems designing a game to challenge 25th+ level characters. This place is beyond the ken of human knowledge, make something up. Thats what GMs do. Yes, it requires creativity, but even extremely uncreative people can fake that if given enough time(and no, that isn't an obsidian flame). Maybe out there Sith thugs are cyber enhanced? Armored to the teeth? Maybe living in a harsh environment forced the average levels up? Theres any number of options for high level play. DnD has the planes, give the Old Republic the Outer Rim.
  18. Haven't played K2 yet, but I've been all for option 2 for quite some time. Play them both, have them meet, and if they're on different sides of the light/dark fence, fight. If not, the Exile takes up his place as general to Revan. The thing is, that means a lot of ingame content to be written, lots of npc dialogues, and twice the number of planets, with all that work I doubt it'll be done. Whatever they do I SERIOUSLY hope we don't have another first level character, and certainly not another amnesiac.
  19. Being a PC user I haven't played yet, but I did get a chance to take a look through the cluebook(spoilers don't ruin a game for me). The thing that caught my eye was in Kreia's section on influence. It had conversation options you could get if your influence was suitably high OR low. From what little I saw, a LOW influence was just as good as a high one, as the main options came with both. Anyone know if this is actually the case? It sort of makes sense, in a DS intimidation factor/LS kill 'em with kindness sort of way.
  20. Let me see if I've got this right. You gain influence over a certain female in the game by doing acts of charity and kindness. I f you go dark and drag her along with you she still wants you be nice? Thats certainly a flaw if true. It sounds like a lack of dialogue was put in, only enough to reflect the npc's initial attitude and not an alignment reversal. Something easily correctable in K3, or better yet, as a downloadable patch for us PC users...
  21. Keep in mind Bioware originally had a sequal to K1 planned but then handed things over to Obsidian. Someone on the Bio boards had soundfiles that are in the game that were never used. In the files Bastilla was telling Lord Revan the Republic had broken through and they had to get to the Ebon Hawk quick. Or something along those lines(been awhile). So just because Lucas stopped work(probably a good thing), doesn't mean everyone has stopped work on it.
  22. In K1 a lot of questions were left unanswered, in fact it was really open ended. I hear K2 shares this. So, in K3 why not bring back Revan AND the Exile. Use the split party format, Revan lead one crew, the Exile the other. Of course, that'd mean a lot more work for the designers, and mean a much larger game(more planets, dialogue, etc.). And of course, figure out someway to bring back a few characters from each crew, maybe even have them switch around? Bastilla with the Exile, Handmaiden(is that STILL her name??) with Revan, or somesuch.
  23. Unfourtunately, this is the sort of thing I expect to see more of. The gaming world is dumbing down and becoming more and more graphically oriented. If it looks new and eye catching we review high. If its something we've seen before we review low. "Story? Oh yeah, that. Uhhm hey, did you see the killer graphics on GTA?" <_< I almost forgot. The moral choices are weightier, the characters are better drawn, the dialogue is sharper, and the plot is more coherent and less predictable. Even the voice acting, though still a little tiresome -- more due to quantity than quality Too much voice acting???? Whats this guy looking for? GAH!
  24. Final Fantasy is cookie cutter at its best. Agreed. And they also make plenty of cash in sales too. I doubt McKnights would be hurt by going that route, in a financial sense. The point is, it could be much better. I want quality, not content. Things like,"ooooh! Those graphics are wicked KOOL dOOd!" are why you see reviews on K2 criticised while at the same time they praise the storyline. Just because graphics sell doesn't mean I want to sacrifice story, even though you can make the bucks that way.
  25. Up until now I was hoping for Kotor 3/4/5/etc. But if we can expect to have brand new characters every game I say it just isn't worth it. Change the name, change the timeline, and stop trying to cash in on past glories by using the "Knights of" gimmick. On the other hand, if we can at least keep a few of the characters from K2 I'd say go for the sequel. Its bad enough "the greatest jedi ever" occured twice in 5 years. It'd be a nasty stretch to see that happen 3 times. I know writing high level campaign material is tougher than tossing random thugs at palyers, so the low level stuff is easier to write. And I agree with not wanting to take over someone else's creation(Bastilla/Mission/Canderous/etc). But sometimes you have to go the long route to get the job done, at least, get it done well. I'd hate to see this line turn into a cookie cuter franchise. Theres too much talent to let that happen. I hope...
