Top 100 Videogame Villains - IGN
The Top 100 Videogame Villains according to IGN. It's an all round mixed bag. I mean ...Dagoth Ur, seriously? The most memorable Morrowind NPC was that House Hlaalu dude who made you take your pants off. And ineffectuals like Malak and Saren rate relatively high, as does Harbinger who is a total non-entity in ME2. What do you make of it? And while we're at it, who would you rate as an effective videogame antagonist? For me personally: Anachronox - Vendelin Detta Fallout - The Master Grand Theft Auto 4 - Grim Fandango - Domino Hurley Jade Empire - Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow - Norman Soth (might need to explain this one) Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 - The Sith Lords - System Shock 2 - SHODAN Tales of Vesperia - Thief II: The Metal Age - Karras I've had to spoiler tag some because I'm not sure when the expiration date for these spoilers is...

5 Reasons It's Still Not Cool to Admit You're a Gamer
Can anyone think of a man who handles sex with maturity? What does it mean to handle sex with maturity? Collectable sex cards, of course! ...honestly, I have no idea. I guess I'm looking for a portrayal of sex that doesn't pander to it's audience or can't be considered some form of fan-service. Fahrenheit might be a good example.

5 Reasons It's Still Not Cool to Admit You're a Gamer
Man, I am not familiar with God of War but it seems pretty hilarious. If a game is labelled mature it often seems to mean just the opposite. Can anyone think of a game that handled sex with maturity?

Alpha Protocol playthrough streaming
Looks great! I look forward to seeing someone actually use stealth effectively though. EDIT: Bingo!

I'm Commander Shepard and this is also my favorite thread on Obsidian
Any movie adaptation will probably go the way of Halo and Bioshock. Even so, I call Karl Urban for Shepard!

Uniloc on Steam = Lost sale
Just buy the damn game already.

New trailer, 'Small Worlds'
Awesome videos, though the henchman looked kinda bizarre really. Agree about the expressions, though Thorton's eye flaring was pretty special.

Which characters will be awesome?
I find Leland the most fascinating character so far. Smug snake indeed. If he's an antagonist I like that we actually spend some time talking it up with him instead of straight up murderizing his ass. And Sie ...well, c'mon! She's VO'd by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn after all.

Games you are looking forward to.
There's a remake of Darkstar One in the works. How did the original play?
-
Movies you have seen recently
Has anyone posted the Inception trailer yet? Looks mind boggling.
-
What are you playing now?
Well, I wouldn't necessarily call it a good deal but it is bundled with a separate co-op campaign. Frankly, I'd have preferred they scrapped that and used the development time to improve the main campaign but whatever, it's there.

Dragon Age Discussion
What, and lie about it? Gorth, for shame!

Dragon Age Discussion
Okay, so at what level were you all during Morrigan's companion quest? Because I'm getting my ass handed to me like so many sandwiches.
-
What are you playing now?
Dragon Age is a real slowburn. Whereas initially I saw only it's foibles, now I find it seriously unputdownworthy. It's awesommar! ...anyone else like what I did there?
-
What are you playing now?
I bought Far Cry 2 and Red Faction: Guerilla on the cheap. Far Cry does my noggin in. I'm having some real difficulty with it, even on the easier settings. The checkpoints, the psychic AI, the weight of the controls. It's demoralising. Red Faction is surprisingly awesome however. It's like all my Total Recall fantasies come true! Well ...almost.

What are you playing now?
Have you tried tinkering with the ini?

SC: Conviction Lives
Man, the henchmen in this game are pretty cringe-worthy. I do like that they reference past missions though.
-
What are you playing now?
Picked up Splinter Cell: Conviction. It's fun in an Arkham Asylum type way. Not all that keen on the black and white filter though. EDIT: Sam's reunion with Grim is hilarious.
-
What you did today
I've got an interview! Editorial assistant for a magazine I know nothing about. If I somehow fluke this it'll be a real George Costanza moment.
-
What are you playing now?
Borderlands co-op with my girlfriend. It's a team-building exercise gone wrong! I kid. Actually she's v. good, though she wouldn't think twice about leaving me to die if there's phat loot to collect. Women.

SC: Conviction Lives
I don't think there's anything wrong with refining the process, making it a little more immediate. It's a fine line. Has the canon ending for Double Agent been established yet?

Killian is Dead.
Well ...at the very least he should listen to some Talking Heads.
-
Killian is Dead.
Try jogging. It's healthy, good for your self-esteem, it actually feels like you're doing something worthwhile and you can listen to some Talking Heads while you do it.
-
What are you playing now?
Good luck, Kill. I tried recently but I just don't have it in me to replay ME1 any more. I wish they'd release an import editor so you could tamper with your Shepard to your hearts content and avoid having to play the damn game again.

New preview with shocking info about real reason for delay
I'd think it'd depend on why the graphics were bad as to whether its a justified criticism. I don't need fancy graphics in a game, but it can be possible for graphics to be a hinderence to enjoyment, I think. Absolutely. Modern graphics have changed the way games are written. You don't need a character to spell out their feelings if they can emote convincingly. If Alpha Protocol can't deliver on that premise, if the technical aspects are off, it's going to detract from the overall success of the story.
