austrian economic theory should be required learning for all you euro-weenies. quite the contrary, this statement has no foundation in reality and this has been proved repeatedly. attempting to control a hugely non-linear, dynamic, if not chaotic feedback system is not possible. But we're not talking about controlling it, we're talking about regulating the economy. Something thats done in all countries on a daily basis, because it has to be done to keep it in check. Tossing all the laws and regulations and control away like Rand suggests, would probably just lead to complete chaos. Humans are not universally benign by nature, and to think we would all fall in line out of common sense if the laws were to be removed is wrong.

At the time Ayn Rand was all the rage in the 50's, it seems like it was alot more important for a lot of 'philosophers' to create an -ism of their own rather than to come up with something that made sense. I get the feeling that Rand said alot of provocative/stupid things, like in my quote, just to stir some sh*t up. To me, saying that everything will work itself out if we stop regulating the economy, is like saying world peace can be attained if everyone wore yellow hats. It just has no foundation in reality.

The dungeons usually contained a decent item, it was just all scaled to the PC's level. In Morrowind one could enter a ruin at level 1 and come out in full ebony armor IF one managed to somehow overcome insurmountable odds. But thats not exploring, thats phat loot.

Yeah, but only 4 of the 9 slots can be accessed that way. Up-down-left-right. There were other issues with it aswell, that arent as fresh in my mind. I dont think it allowed you to stack similar items, for instance. Bottom line: it was alot clumsier than it had to be.

I had a discussion with a friend today where we touched on the subject of the free market and the necessity to regulate the economy in order to achieve stability. Then I stumbled over on yuotube of Ayn Rand being interviewed by Mike Wallace in 1959, in which she says: "If you separate economics and state. If you dont regulate production and trade, you will have peaceful cooperation, and harmony and justice among men." To me, that seems like an increadibly naive statement from a person who has no experience of real world economics. What was she thinking there?

I hope we get A) Fast, responsive controls B) A proper inventory system. I know the devs claimed they nerfed it to make the game harder, but that is such a fundamentally flawed way to achieve challenge that its borderline insane. A game can be hard, but it should never be hard to play the game. Meaning; make the game more challening, dont make it harder for the player by gimping the way he interacts with the game.

Explorer-type gamers are morons. What the hell is there to explore in a game?! "OOooh, there's SmallTree_03a again.. and there's MediumRock_09c, sweet! I hope I find another randomly generated dungeon with treasure chest containing nothing important whatsoever!"

I only played Morrowing for an hour before I gave up on it, but with Oblivion I kept on playing because there was this lure that "maybe it'll get really cool an interesting around the corner" but it never did, so I stopped. Still, it wasnt a bad game by any means. But Fallout 3 was a huuuuuuuge improvement from Bethesda.

I played the new Blood Bowl game at a friends place, its a lot of fun but I think there will be hellish problems with balance. Each team is ordered by speed-skill-strength and strength absolutely dominates, its not possible to win a game with a weaker team when half your team is obliterated in the first few turns. Especially if you play online and you have to spend all you money to buy and upgrade new players all the time because the old ones keep dying. Skaven are the coolest, but they stink. I managed to win a single game against the Goblins but half my team died.

I actually dont think Asimov ever explained how the positronic brain works, other than that it uses positrons because he liked the word. They seem to use an organic/evolving AI though, but one that can also be programmed.. which doesnt make any sense since you cant program an AI like that anymore than you can a human brain, but its sci-fi so who cares?
-
Well, while MY robots would just reboot and unglitch themselves- Asimovs would start a new religion, start to see humanity as a threat and decide to blow up the plant on purpouse. Mine are clearly superior.
-
I read it the other week actually, it ends Kind of anticlimactic when you think about it. And if a positronic brain is inherently unstable, the three laws of robotics dont really matter since it will just glitch and disobey them whenever it gets a buffer overflow or whatever. I would have a killswitch instead that reboots the computer when the power fluctutates to indicate that the brain is glitching.

Zenimax is a sort of 'fake' company started in 1999 by the founder of Bethesda Softworks for tax reasons or some such. It's Bethesda in everything but name.

Although this will probably the coolest game ID have ever made, the technical aspects are what Im most interested in. What Carmack & co have cooked up for hellishly diabolical new ways of doing things, tech5 was supposed to be a sort of 'Unreal3 killer' and they might pull it off. I still cant believe Bethesda bought them though, its like if the guys who made The Witcher would buy BioWare.

- is probably the best english curseword ever invented. Its short, powerful and very direct to the point. Its so good that I sometimes use it in Swedish, even though its punisheable by death to further contribute to the anglification of our already collapsing language. As I recall, their positronic brains have to be unstable in order to work, much like the people on this forum. So the people in Asimovs universe have a strong habit of leaving extraordinarily important, and possibly failiure-means-death-to-mankind, tasks to machines that are inherently unstable?! Thats increadibly stupid.

I tried reading "...electric sheep" by PKD aswell, but that was even worse. I didnt get past the part in the first chapter about how people have artificial pets on their roofs. Atleast Asimov didnt faff about so much until he got to the damn point. Even if that point is sort of disapointing at times, like when a robot breaks because it gets stuck in a loop between law 1 & 2. Dont they have QA in Asimovs future? And the ned is totally intentional. I actually started with that and added the rest around it. Dangit! You saw through my thinly painted facade already? I was just going to sort of ease it in until I got to the slash stuff. I have a real sweet idea about maybe an Arthur C. Clark/Stanley Kubrick story

I read "I robot" the other day in order to find out more about this hardcore sci-fi you **** keep blathering on about. I thought it was quite ridicilous, so I decided to write a short mockery of it because I was bored and felt like typing something. I showed it to my friends and they said Im an idiot with too much time on my hands. http://krotma.com/img/robotmockery.pdf And keep in mind that real men never spellcheck or correct anything they write.

I detect a slight possibility that this thread might degenerate into the old "lets argue about whats sci-fi and whats whatever", am I right? Is it brewing?

I didnt think Witcher was half bad actually. I played the enhanced edition though, and that apparently has alot of improvements over the initial release. I definently dont remember it being anywhere near a grind-feast, like ramza says. Id take it over Oblivion or NWN2 any day.

What's your view on the recent unrests in Xinjiang?

The only sure thing in this regarding the media coverage is that you cannot under any circumstance trust anything the official chinese news bureau says. -
CoD4 is pretty close to a perfect game when it comes to multiplayer FPS. Ive clocked over 100 hours of mp. It only has 3 minor flaws: 1) the 3D audio system doesnt work with height, so an enemy a floor below you will sound like hes right next to you. 2) guns doesnt have a max rate-of-fire so if you're a fast clicker, you can shoot full auto fire with pistols and sniper rifles 3) the helicopter is annoying on some levels as you have no choice but to hide, causing a 30sec standstill before the shooting starts again Apart from that its pretty much perfect. ..and I just got JA2 1.13

And not releasing the source code could be anything from not actually having it anymore, to not wanting to show how badly coded it was or even that they used someone elses code somewhere in there.

Yes, Nic, I agree we should penalise Iran...and....ah...

Ok, let's not get carried away until we have studied the case in detail. A closer look at the picture reveals that Obama is in fact looking at a white sneaker in the lower left corner of the photo. -
I thought Daggerfall had been abandonware for ages already? But this is confusing to me, I know I played one game I liked back in the day but I cant remeber if it was arena or daggerfall. I remember I got permanently stuck in a cave where you had to answer a riddle, and since I didnt have any intraweb I could never find the answer.

How about you guys create a different thread/forum where all the whiners can bitch, complain, and generally piss all over the US and stop polluting the rest of the forums with their hate filled tirades? But both of those things are way too much fun to move to another thread! Trolling a thread just for trolling is like fishing in a bathtub.. an empty bathtub.
