  1. So far Ive located Empire in Flames and Death on the Reik, it seems like they are the only two parts of TEW that has been scanned. I got them from a guy who has scans of almost every single out-of-print RPG book ever released
  2. First theres the publishers site http://www.blackindustries.com which has some stuff. and then http://www.warhammer.net/ has a lot of info about the first edition of WFRP, the 2nd edition is still quite fresh and so most online resources focuses on the 1st edition.
  3. I agree wholeheartedly, going up to an NPC and clicking a "keyword" is barely better than the "click for next dialouge" of Dungeon Siege and its Ilk If they pull the same crap on Fallout 3 Im going to personally ...write a very mean, sharp and eloquent article on Gamasutra so that no developer will ever hire an ex. Bethesda dev ever again.
  4. If you have plans of ever making another game after your MMO is released you have to have two studios because maintaining a MMO demands constant work with fixing bugs and adding content aswellas managing the player community
  5. I hope there will be a reasonably functional demo as I wont be able to badmouth Bethesda without actually knowing for sure if Oblivion is as bad as Morrowind.
  6. Thats right. An AAA title game is judged by the publisher depending on the sales during the first 2 weeks, and theoreticly, delaying the pirate release might be worth the money it costs to purchase. BUT the thing is that people dont go "Oh, damn.. there is no pirated version out yet. Well I guess Ill just run down to the store and buy a copy then" like publishers/copy-prot people/anti-pirate organisations like to think. In the end you probably end up paying more for the protection than you would have lost to piracy.
  7. And dont put too much into the processor, I switched my 3200+ against a +4000 and it didnt make ANY differance at all to the framerate of any of my games.
  8. I did a search for that "saying" on google and got zero hits. Care to show me where you've seen such a saying? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> on IRC :D
  9. Maybe you could include "Game gestalt" in your debate? Game gestalt = The pattern of interaction between player and game. because unlike gameplay, this can vary slighlty in a game where the character can chose between different classes etc. fighter vs mage being one example GG1 fighter: run up to enemy, attack, drink health, potion, attack, loot body GG2 mage: bring up spell menu, cast spell, cast healing spell, cast magic missile, lot body game mehcanics the same, gameplay the same, game gestalt, not the same.
  10. Back in the day when a 9700 was the shiznits there was also this saying: "An ATI card is like a volkswagen with a rocket engine, fast but unreliable" Theyve improved since then but nVidia have better drivers and are better supported in most games. The shadows looking like little triangles in BF2 is just one such ATI thing, another was the AA reset itself after a video sequence in KoTOR. You get those small, annoying things with ATI but Ive had no problems whatsoever since I bought my 6800u
  11. The last time I agreed to do that it did not go well. It was this game that we think was supposed to take place in a world like that of Gaimans "Neverwhere" but they didnt have any background stuff written at all so we didnt have a clue to what the game was really supposed to be about. And the rules were of that horrible "so simple that its just plain dumb" but it only took me about 45min to find a major rules exploit though.
  12. *stabs kirottu in the face with a chopstick*
  13. Its a nice catchphrase but what America is it that the Liberals are supposed to hate? Is it the goverment or is it the stereotype of the country?
  14. Eh? I don't understand your process of thinking at all. You are trying to portray yourself as some kind of a moral defender against consoles, but then you speak of stealing (call it want you want, it is stealing) those very same 'evil' items immediately after. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am against consoles due to moral and ethical reasons. But the key in this is "consumer power", if you buy a 360 and/or games for it then it sends a clear signal to MS that what they are doing is working. If you do not buy, it sends a signal that it is not working. That is all that companies think about. To them it doesnt matter one bit if you simply dont buy their products or if you download them and play them without paying. because the result is the same = less profit. And if a company does make enough profits from something, they will close that project. Thus, if enough people dont buy the 360 and the games for it, MS will drop consoles and go back to financing games for the PC And its not the items that are "evil". What I dont like is that theyre trying to move the gaming market from the free and mod-friendly world of the PC to the shut-tight and license-fee-at-every-corner world of consoles.
  15. Im doing a quick&dirty thing on this by just choosing a bitesized argument to reply to before I go to bed and comfortably ignoring the resut until a later date. And thats where the error is. If this world wasnt a completely insane place to live, a software company's primary aim would be to make the best quality software possible. Its like the CIv4 quotes by Henry Ford: "There is one rule for the industrialist and that is: Make the best quality of goods possible at the lowest cost possible, paying the highest wages possible." and "A business that makes nothing but money is a poor business." And thats comming from a major capitalist, not some darn idealistic commie-hippie. Sadly, theyve succeeded in convincing us that "profit above everything and at all costs" is the way things work and that the best thing is to just lie still while they bleed society dry
  16. One Im very fond of is Retsudo Yagyu from the old "Lone wolf and cub" comics. He is deadly, ruthless, extremely cunning but still not without honour and a hint of humanity. Towards the end of the series, the writers shift attention much more to Retsudo than to the hero, Ogami Itto ( and yes, its a dirty manga but its ancient, late 60s, and properly drawn )
  17. Hey! No one said protesting isnt supposed to be fun " But this stuff is still theoretical, I dont have a console to download games to and there hasnt been a chip released for the 360 yet. And when it comes to the PC, I buy. If its a developer I support I dont wait until the game hits the rubbish bin either (at which point the publisher has already long decided if the game was a hit o no and wether to axe or reward the dev. people who do that are actually hurting devs just as much as pirates) but I pre-order long in advance.
  18. If you don't want to play and purchase console games, that's your choice, but who are you to question the companies that back them? They only give the consumer what they demand. The bit about stealing gaming products is what really bothers me, though. Pirating does more damage to the industry than anything else. The actions of people like you affect developers such as Obsidian, Troika, and Bioware that I support. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I will not buy a console or a game specificly developed for consoles out of principle. That principle being that I do not want to support commercial giants like Microsoft or Sony, and also because I believe in the freedom of the PC.. GNU, open source and all that. Its like me not buying porn or products that are made with child-labour. By refusing to buy, Im making a statement. So if a company makes a game console exclusive, theyve already lost me and many people like me as customers. They know that, and it is their decision and their loss. Im never ever going to support the console industry by purchasing any of their products. However, that doesnt mean Im going to miss out on potentially good games And if I help spread console piracy, Im helping the PC market. It might be illegal (copyright vioilation, not theft) but sometimes youve got to stand up for what you believe in no matter what.
  19. I like them Codex boys, we share the same view on many things.
  20. Did someone mention Exar Kun ?
  21. Often a bystander is in a much better position to analyze something than someone directly involved. Then again, we know why the ME looks like it does in terms of human rights etc. and that is because we in the west forcibly interrupted the process of demcoratisation. A practical example was the removal of the democraticly elected Iranian President Mossadeq was overthrown in 1953 by a joint US-British effort because he made the mistake of nationalising the oil. He was replaced by the Shah of Iran who was disliked and was overthrown by muslim extremists in 1979 and its only gone downhill since then. and thats only the tip of the iceberg.
  22. I dont like consoles and I dont like console games. But if enough companies decide to be bastards and abandon the PC market then I was thinking of buying a stolen 360, chip it, and then pirate the games I want. That way neither MS or the companies who deny the sacred PC will get one dirty cent of my money. Release the game on PC, Ill gladly buy. Make it console exclusive.. no soup for you!!
  23. The biggest fault with using the Star Wars universe is that Lucas-films/arts/books are so very strict on keeping everything canon and thereby limiting the possibilities of what the writers can do. With this new comic they will be able to introduce whole new characters and do whatever the hell they want with them.
  24. This is a tad geeky but I cant help how much I like the new Star Wars comics and seeing the "Republic" series end with Issue #83 was a bit sad but unavoidable (order 66 killed their storyline). Anyway I dont know if youve heard about it but as Republic closes, theyre doing a run of the new "Knights of the old Republic" but the big thing is the new "Star Wars Legacy" set in the unexplored time some 100 years after New jedi Order (no Yuzan Vong in other words) http://www.darkhorse.com/profile/profile.php?sku=13-514 Now this is bound to be if not brilliant, then atleast very interesting and open for possibilities as they are no longer bound by "the canon" as they are exploring a new timeline where the ends are completely open. And yes, it features Ostrander&Duursema which guarantees top notch art and writing
