Save Transfer
Sedrefilos replied to Dark_Ansem's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm not sure if you'll be able to save transfer but you'll be able to transfer your save for sure -
I just made a thought: apparently being a native english speaker makes a big difference in english voice acting. If your native language is english, you can easily skip faster through text and don't mind the voice, especially if it doeasn't say much to you. For me, a not english native speaker, it helps more when it comes to massive lines of reading. Also (I'm not sure about that but that's what I made from reading through this forum), depending of one's origin (British or American), voice preferences differ a lot (?)

It's a win win if you can afford it, maybe, though I'd be genuinely interested to see how many people consider the trainwreck VA of the narrator added value. Larian have quite clearly squeezed every penny they have (and don't have) and risked the whole company, banking on bringing in the kinds of gamers for whom stuff like full voice acting is a dealbreaker. I hope they succeed, and I'm glad I can turn off the absolutely awful narrator, but that's not a "win-win situation" as if there are no costs or risks involved and that everybody should do it as a matter of course. Unless you are Larian's finance manager I don't see how you can be so sure that they squeezed every penny they have. "Clearly" so! No one knows and no one should care unless they've invested money in the company somehow. What we should care about as players is the final product, and the final product is, imho, very good. As I said, if one's problem is the voiced narrartor or the voiced characters in genereal , they can very easily be muted. If one cares about the game being voiced, like I am, I don't think they'll be dissapointed at all. What I mostly see, tbh, in this forum, is people being against VO because. There are, clearly, solutions to that and the budget-expert talks by fans are pure speculations if not just self-assurance that thank God our precious game won't be voiced. Personal opinion, the voices of DOS 2 are way better than Pillars' - still I wouldn't have muted Pillars even if there was an option; I like voice in games where there can be - it makes their world more alive for me.

I am pretty sure Divinity: OS2 is filled with choices. I didn't play it myself, but from I have heard it very much seems so. However, I found the following excerpt from "Rock Paper Shotgun's" interesting considering the discussion. Also apparently writing in D:OS2 is good, which is a welcome surprise after kinda funny, but mostly cringy D:OS: Ye there are lots of choices. I was referring to the way your choices are presented. They are trying something different within the dialogue options at least to me in games like this. When you talk to the npcs your choices describe what you are saying not what you are actually saying. it was just odd when i first played. That's... interesting. I am not sure how I feel about it, but it might have its benefits. Reminds me of the choose your own adventure parts from PoE. Again, all this is to support the co-op and pen and paper/DM mode styles/options of the game without alienating the majority of single-players. It was weird when I first saw it too, but if you see the description is almost a straight line you could say. When you play with friend(s) you may add some roleplay into thet. That kind of descriptive answers help. I'm OK with that. Also, when I was saying about the setting being ultra high fantasy in conbination with the writing, I meant the subjects you're experienceing/talking in the game. In the context of talkig about who's gonna ascend as the next Divine, the writing and dialogues are very very good imo although it doesen't mean it's not dealing with more realistic/grounded subjects. DOS 2 tries stuff, new stuff, different stuff, interesting stuff. In terms of aethetics and feel it is more like a "grounded" Warcraft, like Pillars is like a "grounded" D&D. It is open-world/sandbox and a completely different experience that Pillars and it should't be copared to it imo. DOS 2 has all rpg elemnets that rpg players love and that's a fact. Now, if the story, aesthetics, voices and way of writing isn't of personal prefernce of someone, this is a totally different subject - the important thing is it ticks all rpg boxes and I'd recomend it to any gamer who cares more about these.

Playing DOS 2 right now. I like the writing AND the voice over. Actors are very good imo, even if they are few. Great job by Larian, better that Obs did in Pillars. The voiced narrator can get old fast BUT there is an option for muting him as muting voice-over and ambient voices too (all in different sliders). So if you don't like 'em, you just don't hear them. That means Larian put the effort to fully voice the game AND gave the option to those who don't like not to listen to it. Win-win. @Tigranes, it is only a disaster if they make it one. Options/sliders for muting voice solves the problem for those who think only celebrity actors are worthy for voice acting. @Quillon, the game is ultra high fantasy. Given that, I believe the dialogues are very good.

People, see the facts. Everyone here pretends to know how the production of the game in managed and whether this will take resources over that blah blah blah when in fact everyone speculates. Like if anyone here was ever a game producer. Facts are others do it, Obsidian doesn't. Why, how, who knows. Maybe they can't, maybe they don't want. Truth is, it can be done. Now about the voice actors quality; I don't think Pillars voice acting was top-notch. It was just fine. It worked. It wasn't bad it just wasn't great either. In general. There were exceptions. I expect this to be the case for Deadfire too. What I can make from all that is that Obsidian doesn't care that much about voice-over. Although I prefer the game to be fully voiced, I respect that and I'm OK at the end.

And yet it bugs me a little when most of the characters have the same voice. Wll yeah, one their voice actors voiced 34 characters :D But the same was true for Pillars and it had little VO. You were hearing the same voices everyhere (just trying different tones ). Even Bethesda does the same with their huge uss budgets!

Tbh we know her backstory which is very interesting but the sad truth is that most people went ape**** about her for fapping reasons Okay let's take a moment to be fair and insert some perspective. People were excited for a number of reasons. Her design, regardless of however many people will swear up and own it is "anime", is actually very good. Her background makes her out to be one of those potentially crazy Edwin type characters which was really absent in Eternity 1. Durance is really just a self absorbed ****, and Hiravias is just a horndog. Neither are really that slightly crazy, but definitely evil, mix. She is the only pale elf team member of any variety, and lots of people like pale elves. No, mercs you hire at the inn don't count. She is the only person who can be a rogue at level one other than Eder. Unlike Eder, it actually makes sense for her to have rogue levels. This is potentially the biggest reason for those of us who care about the lore of the game, she is the only party member option from either game that is actually an Animancer. A profession you REALLY should have had represented in Eternity 1's party, since most of your team didn't care, or was against it. In fact, was anyone other than Pallegina pro animancy? Yes, promancers wanted a female elf option. Get over it So yeah, there are some good reasons people liked her as a character and wanted her to be more than a sidekick. 1-5 points were the things that made me think she is the most interesting among the sidekicks (or even the new companions) but I didn't go crazy about her. It's just basic info. None went crazy about any other sidekick And let's be honest, most of the comments had to do with her looks mate So basically... most of the backers are horny teenagers. Nah, just those who commented about her looks during her reveal update and those who demanded(-ing) an upgrade for her to companion; which were the most among those who commented in general during that update There are also horny anime geeks of all ages Another point they made about liking her - she looked animesque

I believe that DOS main strength lies in coop. Characters and scenarios aren't particularly engaging unto themselves but it is a way you interact with the world and solve problems which makes it so fun. If you have a gaming buddy I can't think of better game to spend an evening with than DOS. Although the people who answered they'll play the game co-op were quite a low percentage to their servey. They know most people will play it solo, that's why they made it with one main character this time, although they supported co-op (even upgraded it to 4 players) because there is still an audiance for this PLUS it makes good combo with their DM mode they're introducing this time. Larian loves fun in their games and they show it

Check out Larian's update about deciding to fully voice their game. They had a huge game of hundreds of thousands of written lines and they just said "fakk it - let's voice it" (they even voiced the narrator!). After that I believe the voice = less text mindset is just an excuse. If you want it, you're gonna do it.

Walking Part 2
Sedrefilos replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Others have taken approaches on this. DOS 1&2, for example, have characters walk if you click at a close destination and they pick up speed and run if they have to go far. Dynamic and neat. Others games have a walk-to when you click once to the destination and they run if you double-click. Not that I care much about walking, but this are two simple ways to implement it imo. -
I was waiting with such anticipation for this game and, unfortunately, I dropped it after the 1st chapter. For me, the game was more like a digital storybook were you made choices here and there and less of a game. You make one step you read 20 minutes of text. You click 2 meters further, you read another 20 mins of text. Much of the text was unescessary, imo, with obvious descriptions and weird invented words that meant nnothing to me. As setting was interesting at first but too over the top and after a while, when you have realized that anything is possible (like there were no rules) you were hardly surprised by anything happening. The combat was toooo slow-paced and unteresting and most times I ended skipping through it going for the "alternate" objectives (which was the main objectives actually). A friend of mine finished the game; he was a huge fan of the original Torment and he liked it but find it too short at the end. The pool system it was an interesting one but it would work better in a digital storybook and not in an iso-rpg imo. I suppose it works well in the tabletop game. Unfortunately, for me, it added nothing special to the genre; that's why I, at least, don't mention it

I am not a console player but aren't there M&K for consoles already? It's just if you want to couch game you don't really want to use those. And setting up a desk and a monitor to play on console... I suppose it might be cheaper than buying a PC but at this point you would do better buying a desktop. For me the existance of gaming consoles is nonsensical unless they are handheld. You can spend the money you'd give to buy a console to buy stuff for your pc. I mean everyone has one already. With about 700 euros you can have a quite good pc. If you're going to give 300-400 to buy a console, why not upgrade your pc? Then you have a machine that does almost everything, it's customizable and is not supported by a single company. You can also connect it to your tv and play stuff at your living room since you "can't" do that on your desk. I know many people who do that with wireless keyboards and mice. You lay back, put the keyboard on your lap, mouse beside you... it's quite relaxing actually. Consoles serve a single purpose: playing games. Computers serve a multitude of purposes in addition to gaming and everyone has already one. But, that's just me I suppose.

Walking Part 2
Sedrefilos replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
New deal. I'm all in for the walk toggle if there is also a two-level crawl toggle: one for crawling on four and one for crawling with your tongue. All these in addition to the silly walk, of course. -
Divinity OS and Pillars are descendants of two different schools: Divinity is the spiritual successor to Ultima games while Pillars is the successor to Infinity Engine games. I'm mostly a fan of IE over Ultima and that's why I liked Pillars more, but DOS was so fun to play and so appealing to my eye that I played it to the end and enjoyed it despite its goofyness and its weak base story. Larian gave much attention to detail that won me In the end I'm very happy that both games exist, each doing its own thing and both set standards and raise bars for the genre.
