  1. If you recall from the wrapup of KOTORII they said that E3 was very much the "death knell" because the game was so widely anticipated an Xmas release became priority one. Therefore it's very smart to keep things underwraps until your a good way through the project dont you think? That way you have a solid foundation before you start to get caught up in the hype machine. KOTORIII is also going to be under a lot more scrutiny wouldnt you think?
  2. The improvement will still happen since your only removing part of the equation. Your still going to level up and get more hp's , your still going to get better weapons and armour, your stats are still going to be modifying how much damage you can dish out and take. The major difference being instead of just pointing and clicking your now actually in direct control. But like in any RPG a good character is still going to make up for the weakness of the player and it's going to take a very skilled player to overcome the handicaps of an underleveled character. It's not like there isnt already a great deal of player skill involved in the KOTORs anyway. In an FPS you dont have any such modifiers. I could teleport master chief to the end boss and depending on how good I was have no trouble taking him out. Thats not going to happen here since the core of the system is still intact. Your still not going to be able to run around with a level 1 character and kill a level 20 endboss anymore than you can now. Is outcast the one where you can buy new powers but the character dosnt change at all aside from that?
  3. Thats what the reflex saving throw is supposed to simulate.
  4. No , thats not what I mean. I mean do away with the "to hit" part altogether and have combat worked like it would in a game like Tekken. If you hit you hit, if you miss you miss. The stats would still modify the effects but there would be no more to hit roll as part of combat. BAB therefore likewise becomes totally obsolete and AC takes on the function of absorbing and reducing the damage rather than outright eliminating it, which is what your dodge and block functions are for. Lets see if I can explain it. At the moment you click on a target and an attack , say flurry and the dice does the rest. What I am suggesting is something like this. (using Xbox controls for example). Black button would cycle your stances - skills like flurry critical strike etc would be intergrated into those stances. So you have your fast flurry stances, your strong power attack stances etc. Depending on which stance you chose the buttons would activate different moves. As well as the behind the scenes modifiers which you get in the current KOTOR II stances like increased automatic blaster defelection etc. Leveling up would open up new moves and combo's in much the same way as in the EPIII game. But everything else D20 would be compatible, you could still keep the same damage rolls and hp's and everything else. Might be worth taking a look at Oblivion since they are going for a similiar sort of intergration (again dropping any artificial hit roll).
  5. Aye,the MCA interview, right? Yup,I remember, but who knows... Anyway K3 sounds good,as long as the general feeling of K2 remains... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Think so yes. The darker less obvious stuff is pretty much a BIS and now Obsidian signiture. Looks like I may have to buy a 360 after all.
  6. Well there was a hint of a fourth project although it could have just been the language that was used. You could read it either way. Well they already said PNJ isnt KOTORIII devs dont usually outright lie about things like that.
  7. If you removed the d20 what would you really be losing? Not the system now, but rather the d20 roll to hit (saving throws remain totally unafected by this). Techinally you dont even need to lose the d20, but I really hate systems where you get two chances to fail, one because you misstimed your attack or even if it connects the other because then you still have to roll the dice. Even if you remove the "to hit" then you still have str and dex modifying damage and AC respectively so they dont exactly become useless stats by any means.
  8. It's not such a bad idea. Dont let bioware do it though, they really dont have a clue when it comes to a hands on combat system. If KOTOR were going in that direction you need someone who can actually intergrate the stats and combat, but at the same time have combat that involves more than 7 moves. The other positive which comes out of hands on combat is that you are so busy with it that you really dont care that your companions are AI driven. But again dont do a Jade Empire and have them pop up from dead fully healed after combat ends. Not really sure why people fear it so much as it's the next logical step forward. There are also loads of examples to draw on which prove that just because you have direct control of something you dont lose any RPGness. It's generally more suited to a control pad though, so perhaps I just answered my own question.
  9. Evil spends as much time killing each other as it does killing anyone else. The Sith ethos of "survival of the fitest" means that they have no choice but to kill each other. Probably one of the reasons that Darth bloke set up the two sith only system.
  10. Lets see if I'm going to be staring at something for 25-30 hours then I'd rather it be something I like to look at. In RPGs I always try to pick an avatar that reflects the characters stats. As graphics improved then it was only natural that games would focus on ideals , much like movies. Cant say I've bought a game just because of how a character looked. Although with me advertising is more about awareness, since I'm away a lot and tend to exist in a bubble of my own reality where I dont get subjected to outside influences like TV and newspapers for months at time, quite often I will miss things ,which I will purchase as soon as I am made aware of them.
  11. Nice article, interesting reasding. I'd be more inclined to to the anit arguement more seriously if it wasnt so fanatical but anyways. I think as more younger people start to get into the field the research will become more productive. The real problem would appear to be that technology simply moves too quickly for the studies to keep up.
  12. It's simple. If the force has it's own will then it's manipulated her from the start. She had no real choices and all her suffering is down to the force and you cant deny that indeed she has suffered. To understand why look at the last line of the Sith code.
  13. Yes I think so. Evern though I dont buy into what Bush believes I have no particular doubt that he does. Kerry on the other hand looked like he was "playing the game"
  14. Considering the ammount of time the candidates spend talking about it, I'd seriously doubt you had a snowballs chance.
  15. Whats the bet some of them did? People are very protective when it comes to their children you only have to look at the MMR vaccine to see just how little reality matters to public perception. So to me, the last thing we would want as gamers is to add more fuel to the fire just to have even more extreme violence. If anyone does actually find a study specific to RPGs and the effect they can have , would they link it pls.
  16. Already a mod for that isnt there?
  17. Waves a bit obsolete if you have force storm. Wave is for LS(if you dont want to take crossover powers) and armoured Jedi.
  18. I heard he was taken ill during filming. Dosnt have much luck with third installments, they totally cut his character from RotK.
  19. All those styles that do basically the same thing... normal attack ,strong attack, area attack. No growth no change, only modifiers to damage and the like <yawn> Terrible for a hands on system. Yep JE's end boss beats both KOTOR and KOTOR II by a landslide when it comes to ease of dispatch. Still at least Bioware didnt overtly cheat like with Malek.
  20. You would think they could come up with something a bit more recent considering how much graphics have improved since then. I was reading some research where they called missile command a violent game and centipede a less violent one. Oh and Zaaxon whatever that is.

  22. Whats wrong with the death of the force plot? Certainly beats the paper thin story of KOTOR.
  23. About 40, talked to most people did the side quests appropriate to the character but no particular timewasting. Did listen to the dialogue rather than speed read and skip.
  24. No one has made any such accusation.
