  1. Then they wouldnt be knights :D
  2. Bit of both. Infanrty fairs really poorly against helicopters and thats with a modern weapon. I always though Advance wars could do with some SAM troops. It's not that they can't attack, it's that if you send a 10/10 infantry against a 10/10 helicopter the results are totally predictable. A full strength infanty can just about take down a 1/10 helicopter, which again makes logical sense. Knights on the other hand can't reach a helicopter, it's completely impossible. Then again it's been something thats been part of every Civ game I suppose.
  3. I think that attitude holds as long as you actually like the thing you are carrying. Rather than just looking at it as something that makes you money. It is logical if you want to replace something in your portfolio with something more profitable. RPGs tend to spike in profitablility following a new rules set , then steadily decline. Then spike again when there is another new rules set. There isnt really anything that mainstreams D&D or gets it noticed. If not for online purchasing then you couldnt buy a D&D product around where I live even if you wanted to.
  4. It sells well for a roleplaying game. But not in comparrison to the other stuff Hasbro deal in. Problem is that aside from new editions you have to convince people that all those supplements are worth it. It's not like trading cards where you kind of have to buy into it if you want to stay competative , supplements are very much optional and most of them sell poorly.
  5. Always a geek around when you need one You could rationalise it that way. Although in Civ all millitary units are assumed to be combat ready. Probably should have taken a leaf from advance wars on dealing with ground based and flying units.
  6. AT-ST's are ground based ?
  7. In those conditions sure. I hardly think a TV is essential to survival. You dont need a list, it's common sense. If the cops see people looting for food thats one thing. If those same people are looting an electrical store and carrying off 50" plasma's then put a bullet in them.
  8. It does kind of kill the credibility a bit though dosnt it ? You have to ask yourself, just how long a lance would you have to build to take down a helicopter.
  9. Or longer lances.
  10. Similiar thing in Japan. Not really enough to say it's better than Ocarina , but if the bit's I saw are indicative of the game It should be.
  11. I cried when it got put back to 2006
  12. True, but it's still going to deflect the blame away since steps are being taken to prevent people playing things they shouldnt. Ours will most likely become players towards the end of this generation. Although they are too young to be "clever" like hunting around for 18 rated games. I dont see how any parent wouldnt find this good news. For people who buy their own games and software, It's not going to make a difference anyway.
  13. Of course. Anyone looting things other than essentials should be shot.
  14. Once law and order breaks down some people go all out to get what they can. Had some riots up in Birmingham and they didnt even have the excuse of a hurricane. Police tend not to shoot on sight here, perhaps they should start.
  15. It closely resembles our bed control :D That vibrates too (the bed not the control).
  16. The technology to implant control devices has been around a while. It's just another one of those things that people wont accept. I'd kind of like to have the widget that opens the car implanted into my body, never have to look for it again then.
  17. 80 gig is piddly for five years worth of games . It would be ok as a rental device, but worthless beyond that. Makes you wonder why MS and Sony made such a fuss about 20GB HD's pushing up the costs though dosnt it. Especally MS since both live and thier emulated backwards compatibility require them to function. Alun found a 1 TB HD which was about $1000 and thats a bit closer to the 900GB Ipod that Bill thinks we will all be using.
  18. Probably not as odd as it sounds. It's been in the top 10 of Gamefaqs for weeks. Rental is a different issue though since you have no intent to keep a rental it dosnt matter beyond the hassle of having to delete it again to make room for something else (at the moment a trip to blockbusters is still preferable). I'd have no problems at all renting games via direct download. Buying them however, whole different matter. If you trace the history of gaming . I'm reliably informed that in the begining games came on cassetes. Then they came on floppies, then on bigger floppies. Then floppies designed only to transport them from the store to your HD. Then CD's which performed the same sort of function. Now DvD's that do the same sort of thing because the games have gotten that much bigger even in a packed state. Now while the medium has changed, the method is still the same. You pay money and you get something physical that you own in return. The biggest problem with direct downloads is to have a HD that will make it viable it's going to cost a fortune.
  19. Not really what I meant. I meant if you buy something then you have it for as long as you take care of it. I've still got Mega Drive games that work and those things are ancient. Ditto with the Dreamcast, the software and the unit still function, even though the company that made it is long gone. Take the PS3 for example, it will run three generations worth of software. And thats a heck of a lot of software if you wanted to have it all available for download. The more current the software, the more space it will tend to occupy. It's one thing to offer downloads in addition to disks, it's quite another to abandon disks entirely for downloads. That will have much more to do with changing the attitude of consumers, than it does with technology.
  20. I've been thinking about that one actually. And I admit that's one problem I don't have an immediate solution to. As far as X-box live is concerned that's not an issue though. For PCs it's different and depends a lot on how distribution is solved. The article in The Escapist that has been linked on these fora (at east I think that's where it was) mentions a central point to get games from, sort of a portal site. If that is the solution it takes care of gaming companies going down and the risk goes down. After that it depends on how the portal is set up. Then again, this is no different from replacing lost discs. Getting a new copy of a scratched disc from a company that is out of business is also quite difficult. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually its probably a bit like MS's stance on backwards compatability which aside from being somewhat iffy. Acording to MS backwards compatibility"will be supported as long as there is an interest" thing is there is no definition of what qualifies as interest. So your basically at the mercy of whatever they decide to put up for download, for as long as they are willing to do it.
  21. Ocarina of Time probably the best mount. Shadow Of Collosus , Twilight Princess for those who played the "duel on the bridge". Yes they matter since they are integrel to the gameplay, rather than just for traveling about. There is also Pippa Funnells Studfarm, if your into that sort of thing. DaggerFall and Ultima Online, they are good time savers. EverQuest - not having to sit down to meditate makes them invaluable since you always count as sitting while you ride (or did when I played at least).
  22. I liked the old Black Isle titles. Defender of the Isle, Elder Defender of the Isle etc. I don't recall the other ranks, but I think some were pretty funny.
  23. Your pretty much stuck there. I had a level 27 Iron Man in the end battle and the others had level 45 characters. You really need to choose your team by the end of chapter I and then stick with it if you want the levels to tally. Fortunately you get all the characters except the bonus ones right at the start. I think they did a much better job this time around with the companion AI. In the last game it was forever wandering off cliffs and stuff. The only complaint I had was that it was just too fantasy looking most of the time in the locations. Never used rogue much, there are a couple of puzzles only she can solve (well her and Iron Man , but you wont see him for a while, if at all). Strike is relatively worthless since the base damage is pathetic anyway. Best thing to do is up her focus and use her powers. Same goes for all the characters. Gets slightly better if you have items that do + damage though.
  24. Well a lot of what Bill has said lately hasnt tallied with his actions. Like advocating HDDVD for example and then sticking DVD's into the 360. It's pretty simple to do it from Nintendo's perspective since the games on offer are tiny compared to a game of today. The revolution will play GC games off the standard disk as far as I know. I think it's when you get games which are 10 GB (or even larger if developers start pushing the blu ray capacity) that you are going to run into problems.
