If think there were one recently between Creative Labs and Id Software. If I remember well, it was about one of the main algorithm used in the Doom 3 Engine to handle the shadows, known as Carmack Reversed. Creative has a patent on this and sued Id Software. Then, they made an agreement and a better integration of the EAX were to be done in Doom 3. I don't know if is actually the case. I think Id said Creative has to made this patch or something like this. So yes, this is relevant in the gaming industry and it could harm little developpers as well as an IBM or Microsoft bunch of software patents could be harmfull for little software developpers. Aoh, yes, they said they made all these patents to defend themselves and avoid an Eolas cas. So you may infrige their patents, but not trying to sue them if they infringe yours, since they'll say something like "Yes, we ARE infringing your patent, but look, you ARE infringing 200 of us, so shut up!". But I have some doubts about these so-called "defense patenting". Unfortunately, nobody in Europe have seen the need of a real debate on the topic, there is just pro and cons lobbyists...

Music is degraded to *MONO* 10kHz @ 48 kbit/s?!
Mark Havel replied to markussun's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Indeed. KotOR II's musics have the worst treatment I've ever seen for ages. -
don't call it "content patch",
Mark Havel replied to poolofpoo's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Technically, a XBox a (now very low end) PC. Patching the content could me more difficult in the sense the games are still completely on the disc and you have to find a way to say them to look at the new content. But BioWare did this with the bonus planet of KotOR I, it is possible then. -

Are you aware of the XBox live? It is the way for XBox owner to get this additionnal content. -
Did Lucas say No to the content patch
Mark Havel replied to Degage's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I totally agree with you. I don't see the point to pay twice to get a fully finished product. Obviously, they can sell this kind of "final gold version" instead of the current one and allows their customers to download the content added in this gold version. This would be the smarter way to deal with these issues. -

I strongly disagree with the possiblity to have to pay more to have the game as it should always have benn. In the current state, TSL is an excellent beta with still some glitches. I refuse to have to pay a few bucks more to get the 1.0 (in sense the real final version) patch. Lucas Arts is not Sony Online Entertainment. -

Mark Havel replied to markussun's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
If nobody flames Lucas Arts or Obsidian, they'll think "all right, let's continue to sell rushed and unfinished games, they continue to be sold without any noise!". The more Lucas Arts will be annoyed, the less they'll be tempted to rush their future games or to butcher the music. Continue to mail them about all the issues of the game (bugs, butchered musics, rushed and incoherent end), especially Lucas Arts who is the publishers and holds technical support. -
That what I think. However, it happens dubbing is quite better than original acting sometimes. In the Star Wars Episode I and II, the French voices are IMO better than English ones.

Did Lucas say No to the content patch
Mark Havel replied to Degage's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
It should only be a free patch or expansion. Anyway, I was not aware of this. If yes, I would have mailed them to say I'm behind them and I want the ending fixed. -
I begin to understood why Obsidian want to close these forums. They could "hire" volunteer moderators anyway to avoid such flooding.

If you have a right to a save copy, it could be legal. It's a way like another one to make your authorised copy of your game.
-
??? You have a trouble with your graphic card or you are just unable to play the game and you request a premade one? You'll certaintly have more answers if you explain more accurately your problem.

ATTN Obsidian: Forum Shut Down
Mark Havel replied to Zero327's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I've never seen so much ridiculous. Obsidian would certaintly made a finished and polished game. But LucasArts is the publisher and they set up a foolish one year developpement milestone, plus two months for a PC version. Anyway, it's Lucas Arts who made support, own the rights on the game and all this legal concerns. If you want to sue somebody, sue Lucas Arts (and it'll never work, you've accepted the licence saying something like "in our great kindness, we autorise the buyer of our game to play it without any warranty it'll work and go to hell if not") not Obsidian. I think these forums will be closed because of people like you. You don't even need to sue anybody to hurt them, a reputation ala Troika will do the same job if they don't correct the bugs... -
If you buy an English version of the game, you'll get your English language. It even possible to have subtitles by keeping the german dialog.tlk file and overwrite the English one. That what I did to my English versions of KotOR I and II (but the dialog.tlk is French).

Windows Me is a very old OS. And crappy one in my opinion. Although is still supported by the game publishers, MS does not provide anymore WHQL certification for Win 9x (95/95/Me) drivers. Your troubles might come from there. Your PC is perfectly able to run a Windows XP, you should consider upgrading your OS if you can afford it. Don't forget to try to get a cheap OEM license. In France you can have an OEM license by buying a CPU, a graphic card, an HDD, an optical player/recorder, RAM and floppy drive; it should be quite the same conditions in other countrys. Anyway, did try to run the game?

Music is degraded to *MONO* 10kHz @ 48 kbit/s?!
Mark Havel replied to markussun's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
If they fired and replaced the **** who butchered the musics, I hope they will release a better soundtrack... Edit: Why is there a word filter in this forum? Is it forbidden to say what I mean? -
So what was GO-TO about then ? [spoiler]
Mark Havel replied to Hacane's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
[spoiler2]I think G0-T0 is very likely Goto himself, for quite the same reasons written above. I don't remember when, but he said some things which lead me to think this. As for the fuel affair, I did not know everything about it. I'll play again the game to see further informations about this and some other points.[/spoiler2] -

Yeah, I obviously meant the roll up sequence. -
KOTOR2 Soundtrack....Dissapointing?
Mark Havel replied to Jedi Master Bumfluff's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I found some things, but the point would be to extract the read the DVD from my PC DVD player since I have not the XBox (I won the game in Star Wars fan site contest). -
When it's done. But it'll be far far far far before Duke Forever anyway.
-
Nobody undestood why the hell the ending is so rushed and incoherent. I hope this will be fixed in the incoming patch.

If there is some tool to read XBox disc on a PC, I can try to check the XBox music quality. -

Mark Havel replied to dufflover's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
It's certaintly not Obsidian who make the ad campaign of the game nor decided to put Nihilus as main badass. Perhaps they asked Lucas Arts to do so in order to not reveal the least part of the plot. Having a simplier plot would be the worse thing to do with the game. Obsidian did not change everything in the game engine, gameplay, fighting system. They just ehanced some small parts of it. By making The Sith Lords, they showed us how strong they are to make RPG story. TSL's scenario is certaintly one of the better I've ever seen for a video game. For me, there is Planescape, there is The Sith Lords (did you notice that the only title after the Star Wars logo is "The Sith Lords", but not "Knights of the Old Republic II, The Sith Lords"...) and there is the other games. The scenario litteraly save KotOR II from the demise, weaken it and you'll weaken the whole game.
