  1. /shrug But it seems Josh has stated that he will not be doing "something" again that is currently fundamental to Pillars of Eternity, whether its attributes, classes... or even being involved in the sequel. I have to draw some sort of conclusion from him stating: "Would I Do It, Personally? • Nope! • Don't like the conflict with classes. • Don't like class-based systems!" EDIT REASON: Unimportant - message board inanity only
  2. There is a PDF floating around the net authored by Sawyer where his answer to "would you do it again" -- in regards to the development of PoE -- is no. His primary reason listed is because he dislikes class based systems. I don't have the link handy, though. Sorry. What he meant was the class system only, not another PoE game. PS. Here it is. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/85560-the-logic-behind-attribute-design/ The reality is, the PDF does not specify , what "IT" refers to that he wouldn't do again. So unless any of us have some other source to verify, we are all conjecturing as to his intent. That said, Pillars of Eternity IS a game with CLASSES and ATTRIBUTES... and the conclusions being drawn by you and kmbogd would still imply that Josh is not thrilled about the idea of being involved with PoE 2. So regardless of how you interpret, the ultimate conclusion seems to be rather the same. EDIT REASON: Unimportant - message board inanity only
  3. I think pre ToB was around 20, depending on your class. ToB could go as high as level 40. I think of "epic" levels as anything beyond level 20ish, as that was the defining level in 3rd edition DnD.

  5. Obviously folks are talking about a sequel for Pillars of Eternity, but I'm not sure what that means exactly, or what it would look like. I haven't finished PoE 1 yet (so please don't share spoilers), but it would be great if the sequel was left open so that the main protagonist of the "original" PoE can continue on and reach godlike heights. Go well beyond the current level cap and reach "epic levels". THAT, would make for an amazing finish to an Infinity Engine spiritual successor, particularly a Baldur's Gate successor. Ideally the second game would also show us more of the world, but perhaps to keep it grounded to the current story, should still be mostly focused in the Eastern Reach. We could visit as of yet unseen towns in the Dyrwood and Eir Glanfath, and maybe visit places like Readceras and/or the Vailian Republic. In addition to that, I'm hopeful that there will be other games that will be launched in Eora, that would share the lore of PoE, and perhaps even where the PoE story is known and referenced, but is otherwise it's own separate story. To use IE vernacular, if PoE is Baldur's Gate, the next title might be the Planescape Torment of the series -- though thematically it should obviously be made appropriate for the world. Personally I think the Aedyr Empire would be a very cool place to base a new series in. It seems like that IP has a lot of interest and momentum. I hope it's going to make financial sense for Obsidian to continue to develop this world. And, I hope they are actually interested in doing so. It sounds like Josh Sawyer isn't interested in being personally involved with another PoE, but that the studio overall is open to it. It would be great to see a nice handful of standalone games based in the world of Eora over the next decade or so. Not every game would necessarily even need to be 2D Isometric, even though that is by far my preferred format. So, with that in mind, feel free to speculate on different TYPES of games you'd like to see in Eora. With that in mind, I'm hopeful to see a series of novels written in this world. Supposedly MCA's novella is going to be released sometime in our lifetimes.
  6. Is it just me, or is there not really much more at all to "learn" about Tyranny at that site? It's almost like false advertising at this point. Or maybe I'm just spoiled from Kickstarted games.
  7. It's not necessarily short sided. This is merely reflective of different peoples' preferences for how to play these games. It might seem short sided to you, but to another it might be one of the most important details about the game. In my many years of playing RTwP CRPGs (since the initial release of Baldur's Gate) I have never used party AI, and I don't use it for Pillars either. That said, I can agree that coming up with a really good AI set up can be enjoyable. For Dragon Age Origins, which to me is a completely different kind of game, I spent hours perfecting my party AI, and I only directly controlled all of my companions during the most challenging battles. But that's for Dragon Age. My Infinity Engine fix calls for different medications....
  8. I'm with Crucis on this. I didn't miss the lack of AI before it was implemented, and haven't bothered to use it since it was. I definitely prefer to control my party.
  9. Good advice. It will never happen. If I'm sending an important email to my boss, I'll measure two or three times. Not for Internet forum posting. Type fast and move on... unless I happen to notice a typo after posting. Then my OCD kicks in and forces me to fix it. This isn't usually an issue at all, except for one web forum in particular....
  10. Well, the good news is there's only so many more patches that Obsidian will be releasing for this game, I'm sure.
  11. I'm right there with you. I tend to type too quickly, and invariably type a teh or something similar. I notice after posting and quickly correct it. It really doesn't deserve to be called out for all (pillars of) eternity.
  12. The current beta update looks pretty solid. We are waiting on one other thing to get addressed and then we will put everything live. I wouldn't expect the update today, but it might be tomorrow. Nice! Your post count is increasing, by the way.
  13. From what I've heard over the years that is entirely managed by GOG, once the patch has been passed over to them. My understanding is that is the case here.
  14. Funny, I find it the exact opposite. I'm constantly reminded of an artificial handicap that makes no sense, especially in light of 'the stash'. There is absolutely no difficulty factor in having to go back to pick up camping supplies, there is however an annoyance factor and a break the 4th wall factor. I also play with the restricted stash, since unlimited storage with absolutely no limitations or drawbacks is just wrong to me. So for my stash it's better that I can only pull things out of it when I am in a safe place, and can take the time to unload the large sacks from my horses (or whatever is carting all of this loot for me) and sort through what is what.
  15. I'm a fan of the supplies mechanic. For me, it adds a layer of immersion.
  16. The other issue with furry mode is all the hair you get in your mouth. It's just a darned distraction.
  17. Not sure if this is a 3.02 thing, but I'm noticing that time in party displayed on character sheet is less than it ought to be, quite a lot less actually. I'm guessing that the time spent traveling from place to place is not being counted here. Are others seeing that as well?
  18. I'm partial to the little butterflies that regularly flutter by on wilderness maps.
  19. I'm actually appreciating the change. It makes characters that have a lot of selectable abilities feel a little more organized, and it reminds me of how the Infinity Engine handled such things. I guess you just have to get used to checking it.
  20. Perh Wrong Matt. =p At least I got the project lead right. Edit: Then I guess this is the right Matt? The dates seem to add up. https://www.linkedin.com/in/matthew-perez-4631672a Designer Obsidian Entertainment February 2014 – Present (2 years 2 months) Perhaps an indication that public announcements maybe should include full names. Just a thought.
  21. Was there really a need for rudeness, though? His point was merely that patch notes would assist in getting the patch out sooner. Yeah, actually it was and IMO was justified. I don't like people tell me (or other people) what they should or shouldn't care about. To *me*, THAT is rude. Oh, hi there again. You came back. No, there was nothing rude about what I said -- I was merely calling out a cause and effect relationship that you seem to be overlooking. I did this in the spirit of being helpful, which is the opposite of being rude. Sorry if for some reason that puts you on the defensive. A bizarre reaction, to be sure - but certainly your right to see it that way. As previously stated, it makes no difference to me what you care about.
  22. The engine for NWN2 was terrible. Even on a machine built ~10 years after it was released, turning shadows all the way up caused my video card fans to turn into jet turbines. The earlier versions of NWN2 ran like an absolute dog on my, at the time, brand new system that far exceeded the recommended minimums. And yeah, I've never had such a big problem with shadows on a game before or since. But, patching and yet another PC a few years later and it eventually ran reasonably well enough. I only played the Witcher for a few hours, since the first person view and lack of party based combat just aren't my cup of tea, so that game doesn't really factor into my opinions on the Aurora Engine.
  23. I liked the NWN nights games well enough and I'm pretty sure I played every installment more than once, to say nothing of fan made campaigns... but other than the ability to easily create new content there is very little about the actual engine that I have any particular desire to return to. It was the stories and the characters that made NWN and NWN2 memorable for me. Not the engine. Not that it was bad per say, just not at all the thing about those games that resonated with me. It was more of a means to an end.
