I checked the technical forums around the time I made that and saw that a few bugs had been reported, but bug reports are always going to happen. It's far more valuable when the community knows what to look for in terms of fixes, and can make a point to validate those specific fixes. That requires patch notes to do. I wasn't saying no bug reports could be made period. Encounter a bug and report it. Sure. But the value of a beta is severely limited without patch notes to guide it. Patch notes were released earlier today by the way.

Update 3.02 Beta is Live
Marceror replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Let's at least get the patch notes first, then we can ask when it'll go live. Personally, I'm more concerned with the release date than the patch notes. Patch notes do little for me now (because I'm not playing the beta version, so I don't really care all that much about knowing what's in the update to compare with how it performs). Having some sense of when the patch goes live is of more interest and value to me. Yeah, well in order to derive reasonable value out of the beta process, pretty sure folks need to know what to look for. Patch notes are pretty key for that. So, you should care about the patch notes at least in so far as they are a key dependency in completing a successful beta test. And this will directly play into when the patch goes fully live. I made it plain that I haven't DL'd the beta and will not. So I do not care about the patch notes for the beta because they don't matter to ME. I understand that for someone participating in the beta they matter. But I'm not. I'll care about patch notes when the patch goes live and not before. Get that thru your head. What you choose to care about or not care about is entirely up to you. I was just calling out the cause-effect relationship that impacts something you claimed to care about. It's totally your prerogative to ignore such bigger picture details and myopically focus the details that suit your fancy. The reality is it really makes no difference to me. Have a nice day. -
I don't believe in the Administrator God anymore. It seems someone just made him up, so they wouldn't feel so alone during those long nights searching for answers... on the forum. I can find no evidence that he actually exists. I ask for a sign. Just a small sign that he's real. But I'm just getting dead air. I have lost my faith....

I guess it's been almost a year since I posted around here, and I had blissfully forgotten about this website's strange quirk with respect to marking threads as edited. Didn't take long for me to be reminded though! So, if we can't get a more reasonable window for marking posts as edited, any chance we can a "reason for edit" field added? Seems like this should be a minimum requirement given the strictness around this website's policy. ....

I suppose you're right. The folks installing this thing without any documentation as to what is changing are brave souls indeed. They can't even engage in a discussion about the patch apparently, because they don't know what said patch did to their game. This makes one realize just how important patch notes are, because if the point was to get a beta test from the community, how is the community supposed to provide meaningful input?

Patch 3.02 Beta Surprise! Just what the hell is in it? No one knows! But so far no one has died from installing it. So far. -
For as excited as I was about this game during Kickstarter, I'm surprised that I've not yet completed any part of it (base game, or expansions). I haven't really played it since version 1.3 - 1.4 timeframe, in fact. I ran into a couple of bugs during my initial play through, and was so worried that my experience was going to be marred by such issues that I just separated myself from the game entirely. So, a lot of time has passed, and a lot of patches plus 2 expansions have since been released. What is the state of the game from a stability standpoint? Am I going to see things like randomly losing extra weapon slots when my party members get charmed (happened to Kana), or have defense values, hit points, etc. randomly change values? Aloth gaining godlike intelligence and being able to cast his spells over ungodly areas of effect was fun at first, until things just became utterly ridiculous and beyond broken. I'm hoping to have as close to a "pristine" run through as I can for what is, I suppose ironically, my most anticipated game of the last 15 years. Have the bugs largely been ironed out? Do the expansions still need love before they are stabilized? I've waited this long, so I guess I can wait a bit longer if there's a bit more polishing up that is still needed. I've also heard that there may not be any further updates, but even if so, I'd love to get a general feel for how polished Obsidian has managed to get the game over time.

Watch it on eternity.obsidian.net. That works only for backers not for those who bought versions of the game that included it from steam, gog or origin Only backers have access to it right now, so that's perfectly acceptable. I am giving jaydee.2k the benefit of the doubt that he/she read the original post, and responding accordingly.

This is nice to see! I'm wondering why a Kickstarter update didn't go out. Ironically the KS update that was sent the same day this announcement was made indicated that the Road to Eternity was still being finalized. Oh well, so I'm getting to this a week late. Not the end of the world... but would have preferred to watch on May 8, which was my birthday. Now I'll have to "settle" for a belated BD present. Off to download. I'm betting there are a lot of backers who are also in the dark about this being available. Hopefully an email and/or KS update will be sent. What's the point of "getting in early" if you don't know you're in?

Change in Steam Depots

Well, I'm predicting some future impatience! Good to know that the patch is coming soon. No beta this time? Or did I manage to miss it? We have had the beta running for about a week. We have a slight change we are going to make (nerfing Petrified from X4 damage to X2 damage), but otherwise what is up for the beta is pretty much it. I'm a day late and dollar short, as usual. Actually, the timing is perfect. I took a break from PoE to wait for this patch in hopes that a couple of annoying bugs would be rectified, as I don't want to tarnish my first run through of the game. As luck would have it, I should be wrapping up my second WL2 full runthrough tonight; I have tomorrow off work and should be able to get back into PoE with the new patch. Couldn't have planned that better if I had tried, in fact. -

I honestly couldn't remember much of anything about IWD 1 or the HoW Expansion. I know that I played them shortly after their release, and I remember a lot of snow...but that's nearly about it. I don't think I ever touched Trials of the Luremaster, which ironically I guess was released for free. I remembered all of the others quite well, because I played them all multiple times. But when I got IWD:EE it was almost like playing an IE game for the first time.

Hope the making of documentary is soon to be released. I just need to know how the sausage was made. Okay, guess I don't need to know, but I'm still looking forward to watching this (coming from a guy who watched every minute of special features on the LotR DVDs, theatrical release and collector's edition). I only lament that there likely won't be any cool New Zealand accents on the PoE documentary, since everything immediately sounds at least 50% more interesting and compelling when said with a New Zealand accent. At least, I don't believe there are any NZ accented folks at Obsidian. Hopefully the reason this is taking so long to get out is because some good NZ accents are being overlayed onto the video. Josh definitely should have this treatment, since he'll likely be giving lots of intricate details.

No - PoE has some design flaws IMHO, but at the end of the day Obsidian has managed to create a game that many fans really like. For example: It is the most liked game on the RPGWatch Steam curation list. I made a CRPG element-checklist for PoE with the CRPG Analyzer as well. I personally hope PoE2 will be an enhancement to PoE1 like BG2 was to BG1. And I really hope that PoE2 will feature turn-based combat, more world interactivity, more major C&C and NPC-schedules. For what it's worth, my comment was oozing with sarcasm.
