  1. I demand Obsidian creates CSI:PoE Just to bring justice to you murders. (Even if you are well dressed) That would make a very interesting fanfict. CSI:PoE. Detailing the dastardly deeds and exploits of those who might be CE aligned. And the intrepid hero(s) who sought to thwart them.
  2. I don't know where to start in listing games I've played with major issues. The funniest ones came from Daggerfall. I kept hitting clipping issues in the generated dungeons. I would consistently have this infinite falling effect after walking through a wall. That did ruin the game experience to the point where I just stopped playing. However, I still laugh about it. I wish I could have videotaped it. But, I do have a different approach than many people. I test for a living. I expect problems, so I'm not surprised when I find them. And for those of you who are being highly critical of the beta testing, did you ask yourself if perhaps the QA team DID find the issue? They just weren't fixed... yet.. give it time. And no, I'm not absolving Obsidian from responsibility to fully test and support a game. Have a look at the Credits sometime, they had a large QA team. Both internal and with Paradox. The truth is that there is such a large variety of PCs out there, and extreme differences in how people play. You are bound to hit issues. And yes, your issues are real. And have a really negative impact on your enjoyment of the game. And in some cases make the game unplayable to you. I think we all get that, because I think we can all relate to times in which we hit major issues that not everyone was hitting, but it ruined our experience with the game. Remember it takes time to fix problems. If you think this is easy, download the the source code from an open-source game out there and see if you can make heads and tails of the code. 1000s and 1000s of lines of code. Go for it, start with http://ufoai.org/ and download the source version. Use notepadd++ to go through the code. Or VI, or any text editor. It's not easy. From what I've seen, Obsidian is watching these boards and are trying to address the issues.
  3. Here's a related question. How do I figure out what is influencing the accuracy of one of the party members? I was going to submit an enhancement request to add more details to the combat log to include more details about accuracy influencers. I'm finding it difficult to figure out why my accuracy is nearly null in some situations, yet when I go to the char page, the accuracy listed does not match. Thanks!
  4. Did all that, unfortunately no luck. My code seems to be missing a .exe file... Not sure what I can do about that This is going to sound odd, but I can't help but wonder if you have an antivirus program active. I'm wondering because it is the .exe that you are having issues with. If you don't, I'm out of suggestions. This is a tough one.
  5. Sounds like a Steam Issue I faced before. Been awhile since then. I did this to fix a similar problem. Uninstall the steam client (You may just need to stop the client and delete the client cache files) Delete the local game content that is giving you issues (all of it) Reinstall the steam client Reinstall the game I would do a google on steam client corrupted cache, I can't remember the exact steps. Do this before following the above steps. Best of luck to you. That sounds really frustrating.
  6. Yup, I would agree Concordance. I don't think he number of bugs were anticipated at all. Tired programmers and testers don't operate efficiently. Perhaps we can start a goFundMe campaign to provide Coffee (Or legal stimulating beverage of choice) and scones to the Obsidian team to fuel their coding/testing madness With the expectation of a quicker patch (I'm taking a wild stab that appreciated programmers/testers might be more inclined to pour their hearts into this) It also, understandably/sadly stands to reason that Obsidian is putting PR energy into keeping the gaming sites updated (Wider audience). That team is probably not the team that keeps these boards updated, hence the disconnect. It would be nice nod for someone in Obsidian to pin a quick post that says something to the tune of "Hey, we hear you guys and we are working on a patch!" I'm am seeing a lot of developer activity posting to the various problems, but those get lost in the shuffle. So, I can see Obsidian IS listening and communicating, but it is hard to see. Black Isle learned that the hard way with the release of BG. Same thing here. Get a message board PR person and quick! Who's job is to calm the crowds gathering with pitchforks and torches. Like the grainery and the angry dwarf, they just want to be acknowledged. EDIT- Ok, I saw that Obsidian did post that they were working on a patch, but the post is not that clear. It didn't jump out at me. Perhaps a new pinned post under the heading of "Patch Status" and not "FAQ" (I do concede that that is an appropriate place for it, but it doesn't have the visibility IMO) Here is the post, look very carefully near the middle: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/71830-pillars-of-eternity-support-faq/
  7. Very cool posts! I am currently playing a Druid using the cat. The charm mechanics do seem a little wonky. Not knowing how the game is really tracking things, its hard to say. One would expect that any spell that is not permanent would not change the overall game state from combat to not combat. This would imply a creature base-state that is hostile, with a spell overlay that overrides that. This way you stay in combat since the base-state is still hostile. I like the hypothesis/observation that the charm duration would be influenced by the number of actively hostile creatures. The game is, in a way, accelerating the charm duration, so you don't have to sit around for the charm to wear off. This was an issue in the BG games. Perhaps a short doc on game mechanics would work well for us from Obsidian?
  8. Hopefully Mortivore will respond with the save in question, the problem encountered does look really frustrating. Nothing like playing and getting immersed in the game (That's quite the compliment right there from Morti) to the point where he stopped saving. Only to have something come to screeching halt with a sickening crunch.
  9. Well said, although I'm dying to learn about this Obsideon developer that you made multiple references to. Are they also a maker of isometric RPGs? Now I have to laugh. At myself.
  10. My apologies to Obsidian. As I can't edit my post, I must lament my overly-fast typo ridden post. Including, it seems, my new name for your company. BTW, I never said I could QA my own posts
  11. I think for the sake of good PR... *It would be nice if Obsideon would pin a patch notice, if at all possible, or at the very least a post indicating that "We are getting this and woriking on it." *An official list of defects that are being tracked and pin it to this list, so the boards don't get too crowded with repeat issues. A quick place for us to see if the problem we are experiencing is already noted. This way (hopefully) the new posts are new problems, not repeats. It is really hard right now to search the posts to see if the problem you are having has already been posted. I think the rest of us posting here need to take a step back and realize that it takes a significant amount of time to reproduce the issues being presented so that they can fix it in the code. Without understanding what the real underlying issue is, how can any programmer make a fix in code? And, once you have a fix, that fix needs to be tested as broadly as possible to verify that you did not break anything. Patience everyone. I'm sure Obsideon is working on this. Also, keep in mind that some of these issues may be realted to the Unity Engine. Obsideon didn't develop Unity, they use Unity. Any Unity issues need to be fixed by the Unity team. And they have to go through the same development/test itterations to validate fixes. My .002 (Speaking as a QA guy)
  12. Hello Obsideon, I was following other full screen posts and this appears to be related to Unity. I was directed to a post on Steam for PoE and how to force opengl mode. This seems to have done the trick. Its a shame that Unity is having issues with DirectX. Here is the post that addresses this issue: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/72291-problem-with-fullscreen-steam/ Here is the post on Steam that shows one way of fixing this issue: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=414835388
  13. After reading in a few other topics with similar problems, I think this game is not currently running in true fullscreen ever, even if you have the fullscreen check-box checked. I'm pretty sure the game is running in borderless window mode at desktop resolution when fullscreen is requested. I *thought* I was running in fullscreen since I had that checked, and it *looked* like I was. Its a bit hazy if this only affects Nvdia, or if this is like this for everyone. I'm sure they will address this eventually. At least I do understand what is going on now. Maybe....
  14. Hello cRichards, I'm still able to pause when in combat when this happens. The pop-ups are not interfering with the game controls or shifting keyboard/mouse focus. It is just a nuisance and a distraction. I don't think the game is auto-pausing when this happens, but I don't know for sure. I was not looking for that. I'll specifically watch for this next time this occurs. The first time I noticed this was with the screen saver while I was viewing the credits. That is a really long list! Imagine my surprise. The next observation was with the notifications. Nothing like getting immersed in the game and then getting this pop-up. Ruins the moment, kind of like in-game ads. Specifically, I am a user of Evernote. I was getting Evernote sync notifications. As a workaround, I'll try disabling notifications. But, I view this as a workaround and not a permanent fix.
  15. Ah, it would appear from other posts that the game is not actually running in fullscreen at the moment. It is running in borderless windowed mode, allways. Well, if this is true, that would explain what I'm seeing. Is this true, and if it is, when might we see the game running in true fullscreen?
  16. I'm also having this issue with the map. The primary game is just fine, and the in-game gama works. However, the map on my system is nearly impossible to see clearly. This may be a video card/ video driver issue. I'm using an Nvidia 640GT with latest drivers. Windows7 x64 Pro platform. Let me know what other debug information I can provide. I would rather not mess with overall system settings to address an application issue. Games aren't the only things I do on my pc -Paul D.
  17. I am having issues with fullscreen too. However, mine does run in fullscreen, but the screen saver and taskbar notifications are active. Try having combat interrupted by a silly AV message I'm also running the Steam version. Out of curiosity, are you running an Nvdia card too? There seem to be issues.
  18. Hello Obsidian, I have an interesting issue on my system. Task bar notifications and the screen saver are overriding the game while in full-screen mode. The task bar notifications are the most annoying as they interfere at the worst times, like during combat. I'm running Windows 7 x64 Pro Video Card is an Nvidia 640 running the latest drivers. The hardware is a desktop PC, Intel i5 Game version is the Steam build I will try to provide addtional information when I get home. What information would be the most useful, and, any suggestions on what to try as a work-around? Thanks, -Paul
  19. Yes, Thank You Obsidian! I really love the game! The mechanics are fresh and exciting, and the dynamic environment is just icing on the cake. Bravo to your writers too! As others have stated, my first "quick peek" last night after getting home from work absorbed a few hours. That is a great sign. I am loving the subtle homages to BG scattered about. Looking forward to playing more.
  20. I have just noticed this post, and I "Liked" it right away. I couldn't back the game while the Kickstarter campaign was up because I was out of job, and I must wait until I get my first salary next week to afford the $140 tier plus a few goodies (namely, the soundtrack on CD, the expansion pack and maybe the playing cards). I'm itching to pull the trigger because I have no idea for how long I'll be able to, and that's a bummer because the timing of my purchase does not depend on me — if I had had the money, I would have already backed Project: Eternity. Moreover, I would really, really like to later upgrade to the $250 tier to have my collector's box signed by the devs and get ahold of the collectors' hardcover book, but with my Hungarian salary it's already a lot if I can get the $140 tier for now; the upgrade must wait till a later date. If the devs kept the tiers up and running for a longer time (in my specific case, let's say until January), I'm sure they'd get more pledges. Either that, or give those who pledged for a tier the option to purchase add-ons indefinitely, and add the collectors' hardcover book to the list of possible add-ons Besides, I find it would be unfair to "discriminate" (quotation marks for lack of a better word) those who would have wanted to back the game but couldn't for reasons not depending on them. You should consider that Obsidian, or any company for that matter, must purchase the materials for the reward tiers. In order to make your request happen, they would have to pre-order extra materials in advance in anticipation of orders that may, or may not happen. Now this doesn't apply at all to the software portion of the game for obvious reasons. Perhaps a solution to this would be the creation of a new reward structure based solely on pay-pal contributions that would rely on a separate delivery schedule so that the kickstarter rewards don't get delayed, and would help shield Obsidian from orders that never happen. They would have to set a deadline for paypal orders in this case too, since, again, physical materials would have to be ordered and assembled to fulfill the rewards. Just a thought. Its good to keep in mind the little things behind the curtain that need to happen with the physical rewards. Cheers
  21. It honestly doesn't bother me as a backer during the KS phase. I know there will be some people that want to feel special because they backed it during the KS phase, but personally I say you guys keep it open for the next year or more. I want you guys to get as much money as possible to make the game awesomer. Seconded. If you really want to provide a differentiation then just provide a different in-game item to people who become backers after the KS ended. Personally, I don't care. I just want the game as awesome as possible. I'll third that! I just want awesome. I'm very happy we met the 4Mil Mark, which is just staggering. Personally, in-game credits listing the kickstarter backers would be enough. Cheers
