Yeah, this feels kind of like EAs rerelease of all the CnC games, only, each one of those was unique and interesting in it's own way, while all the civ games are basically just an evolution of the previous.

If the above post had been made by myself, it would have read as: 'I've been playing Oblivion for 2 hours, and I'm bored witless. Why? *snip*' I expected this, but still needed to see what the fuss was about. I can see the apeal, but nothing clicked with me.

In all except the gameplay of Civ4, I am inclined to agree with Darque. It's rare that a game can actually be fun and 'deep' without resorting to in-your-face textbook philosophy and 'I wanna be a movie director!' unskipable cutscenes. AC felt unbalanced though, the chopper chassis was stupidly powerful with the blitz ability as standard and things only got worse with the ridiculous alien races. Loads of fun though. I've never even heard of Conflicts in Civilization and Test of Time, was one of them a US release of the 'Scenarios' addon that the UK got?

For some reason I dug up my old copy of Ascendancy, and while i'll be damned if it doesn't crash my computer any time someone tries to MSN me (up to the point where it apparently corrupted my system32 file which had to be reinstalled from CD, I don't play it with MSN on any more), it's still as much fun as it was when I first played it. Although, I now realise how idiotic the AI can be. A cookie to anyone who has even bloody heard of this game.

Though having said that, the number of prunings this thread has needed does supports the above theory.
