This thread is both informative and pointful!

People who hate Pokemon. Bulbasaur.

You can still have faith in 'half-facts'. It can be said of scientists that science is their religion, just because there are 'facts' and 'research' doesn't make their devotion to it any different than those praying in a temple. Of course, the goals are different, but the *drive* is the same.

Isn't that the 'our child is screwed up because of computer games and not because we're bad parents' thing?
-
Then why not Halo? lol fanboys/girls.
-
The 'god doesn't exist because you can't prove that he does' again takes a starkly limited view of just what 'god' is.

Yeah! Lets destroy all that which makes us human!

What Games Do you Want To See For Xbox360?
Nick_i_am replied to Bastilla_Skywalker's topic in Computer and Console
Consoles are good at what they do, but it's a completely different market. Halo is the best console FPS out there, but as a PC game? guffaw. However, those of you who enjoy beat-em-ups (haha, that expression is so 80s) will know that consoles are your only option unless you want to play Oni (who wouldn't?!), and likewise with 'console style' RPGs. Having said that, while I enjoy many console games I have always been a PC gamer, and it IS easy to say that PC games generally have 'more intelligence' due to the nature of their platform. It's also easy to say that people who get high and mighty over this are full of it. As for the 360, the only things that even remotely interest me at the moment are the Mistwalker games -
Yeah, this is all completely fair which is much of the reason why opinions are so split, and the split probably comes from those who played the game 'straight' and thought who thought 'hey, what happens if I try to kill my boss!'. I would NOT play this game again, it's not even slightly tempting, but when I played it I played as one would expect the protagonist to actually act. Boring possibly, but as long as one 'played by the rules' the immersion could be very high. Of course, as you point out, trying to bend these rules would instantly break the immersion, but if you're killing friendly agents and lobbing grenades at your boss then immersion in the gameworld probably isn't your priority to start with. ...also, who didn't go into the womens toilets?

There is nothing more sexy than polygonal boobies.

Oh yeah, how did I forget Lunar, hallarious games. R.I.P Working Designs

Hi Llyranor! But yeah, over here in Europe it can seem slightly different, and it seems mostly to be america that has hangups over the 'violance is okay as long as their is no sex'. The bare breasts from Giants being removed and the sex scene from Fahrenheit being two key examples of this (though Giants is an old game while I THINK the American version of God of War still contains breasts). This is no suprise though as in all mediums america has always come of as more 'prudish' than most of europe and russia.

Deus Ex can get a lot of flak or praise depending on who you talk to, but for some reason I found the more 'RPG' sections (the ones with actual NPCs and not just full of baddies) of the game really immersive.
-
Wait, wasn't Fahrenheit that game with a stupid ending and matrix-style plot involving necrophilia?
-
That can pretty much be the general case in anything. A person who belives fanatically in one state of the universe is STILL a fanatic, it doesn't matter if they belive in a particular god or the lack of a god.

Nice work summerising my point. And what of deity that is personification of man? In other words, what about god being the man and man being the god? Such limited views can come from limited dictions as the one below, and assigning diction to the concept of 'god' (which can be argued to be different from the concept of diety and the concept of creator) is stupid at best. Additionally, thanks for showing the worst side of human nature that stems from 'god' and people's relation to their own 'god' be is science, the belief in a supreme being or whatever. How many people do you think have died over this very same nature? Sure, you're saying 'break free' and not 'worship what we worship' but how is 'follow my thinking pattern' any different than any other forceful conversion? and how is that any different from any war, execution or persectution done in the name of converting someone from one view of the universe to another. THIS is the arrogance. As pointed out above 'I think, therefore I am arrogant' is simply part of the human condition, but people can be better than this. Too bad that so many have died because they havn't been, and too bad that an educated, modern individual in a 'free' countray can still follow such vile trains of thought. 'Think what I think, it's for your own good'. Even beliving it's for his own good does not make it excusable for exactly as long as he isn't harming those around him. You can probably nitpick words or sentances in the above, but it doesn't make the overall point any less valid. Additionally, this are merely my opinions, read on them, ignore them, consider them, whatever you feel like.
-
That really depends on what you define as 'god'. Again, arrogance, meh.
-
...the sad thing is that it's true. WATCH. YOUR. BACK.
-
This is a very good idea. Come on, which of you HAVNT wanted to murder Llyranor?
-
...I would have bought Minsc's teatime adventures. But yeah, all of the above are 'comedy moments in RPGs' not 'truely funny RPGs', of which there is only Anachronox. As far as console RPGs go, the Tales series has it's moments, and while it's an 'action game with RPG elements', Threads of Fate (not released in Europe) is funny as hell just because of mint. Just for the love of everything stay away from the Rue campain.
-
The problem only comes when a 'consoleization' damages what would have otherwise been a great PC game and turns it into an awkward port.
-
Disgaea (and La Pucelle and Makai Kingdom along with it) are pretty funny. However, funniest RPG ever and pretty much one of the funniest games ever goes to Anacranox. Normal RPGs say somthing like 'you can't go this way, the bridge is broken, please come back once you kill the stupid dragon'. Anacranox says (via the avatar of a cyber-police-man) 'sorry sir, there's a man on fire around this corner, you're going to have to wait till he puts himself out'. In the mean time, a man is running around on fire behind him screaming. And that's just to start with.
-
Wait, wasn't KotoR a console game too?
-
Yeah, what he said, it takes it further than I really like to take it, but the fact is that being sure of ANYTHING is arrogance because you could just be a brain in a pot and you don't KNOW it. More importantly to this thread, I belive that making broad statements in reguards to the exact and individualistic nature of a divine being is one of the worst kinds of arrogance when that same person refuses to accept even the possibility of any other 'truth'. Of course, some people don't have much of a choise on what they belive on the surface.
