Hi! The Free Camera Insight stuff is further down, starting off with Assassin's Creed thoughts. Some Endorsement So I began playing Assassin's Creed and wow, what an intense story. There is SO much that can be done interestingly. But anyways, enough endorsement of the story. I have not yet gotten very far in Assassin's Creed 3 but I think I need a little bit of a break or pause, the sudden jump in setting (and location) between Revelations and AC3 is a bit off-putting. I'm gonna have to play AC3 before I can make a full judgement. Thought bubble I was playing Revelations, and sometime very early in the game I felt "Hey, wait a minute, the animation for that block+counter is in the game. What if that sequence was decided by a dice roll instead?". This made me start to think about Project: Eternity, Baldur's Gate, Numenera. In "Top-down RPG's" essence. Assassin's Gate? *-* How well would an Assassin's Creed game work in a top-down environment in the spirit of Baldur's Gate-esque RPG's? (RTWP* to be exact) [closes eyes] yes, it would work amazingly well I believe. Having a group of 6 Assassin's+Pause button, perhaps being able to control a HUGE amount of Assassin's as well in an RTS-mode battle. When further playing Revelations and getting to a "Tower Defense" session I was mindblown on many levels, but I was a little bit bitter that I had to be stuck to Ezio (Developers should make more use of a Free Camera). Strategical Thoughts/Positioning/Team Management Positioning, climbing buildings, sneak missions with the entire team (and you are in control, it was so much epic in Revelations when you were running on top of buildings and the rest of your team is running in front of you, heading towards the palace, the only thought I had was "Wouldn't it be cool if I could control this & guide it?"). So much could be done that could re-innovate top-down RP and RTS genres. Fallout 3+New Vegas Thoughts on lack of Top-Down Take Fallout 3 or New Vegas for instance, how great a feeling wouldn't it be to just, zoom out, put your camera top-down and then pan the screen how you want and control the game like the old-schools? Imo, that would make both Fallout 3 and New Vegas so much epic better instantly. Like, putting the game in completely different perspective What do you think? If you could make Fallout 3, today as it is today, into top-down, would it be the same game? Would it be a better game? A worse game? Is modification or this intent possible? Is a Free Top-Down Camera Modification for F3+FNV a possibility, or too complex to adjust? (You can zoom out in F3+FNV, but it isn't the same thing as what I am asking about, you're still stuck to the characcter). F3+FNV: How to Mod thoughts/questions * How do you add a Pause Function? Very Easy. * How do you map the Camera pan (Map-Scrolling/Map-Panning)? Easy. * How do you turn off "Character Aim" or simply "center" the character aim? Easy. (You only need VATS+Auto-Pause to make Combat flow as the Player see's fit). * How do you remap the WASD controls into a Mouse-based Point+Click control? Very Hard. I base/assess "Very Easy", "Easy" and "Very Hard" on difficulty to implement if you are a professional team+have time for it. Talking about PC-versions. Free the Camera PC Propaganda! Personal input is, I think it would be a better game (by my own preferences). It would also give BOTH F3+FNV some lost glory and appeal to the nostalgia fan-base. I bet it would! Action Camera I've never been too fond of action cameras, they force the Player into a camera position "Hey, look at this cool perspective!" "Awesome!" [300 times later] "STAHP IT!". Dragon Age: Origins is fine, it doesn't force the Player into a specific perspective (I can still pause, move around the camera etc. etc, it does force the Player into slow-motion though). But games like X-COM and Fallout 3+New Vegas that suddenly "teleports" me (the Player) to a different view and locks me to that position is frustrating after Cinematicx300 times. Thoughts? * Real-Time With Pause

Selection Circles option poll
Osvir replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Immersion mode = Be able to turn off selection circles entirely, AoE circles etc. etc. Stuff that's best on a second playthrough when you know the area of effects or a mid-game/late-game option when you understand the gameplay more.- 47 replies

Sounds very healthy for both games. I'm hoping for some dimensional references between both games. Such as a crazy person who is terrorized by inner demons or whatnot in Eternity, but in Numenera there is an evil mastermind demon that is pulling the strings into some abyssmal rift. Of course if you only play 1 game (let's say Eternity in this case) you'd be seeing a crazy person, but if you play both games it might be more clear about their relation. Perhaps not core story stuff, but side story definately. Gods can make cameo's, characters, monsters, concepts, ideas etc. etc. If both games use the same engine (the developers create an awesome engine together) there could even be an area that is used in both games, not to mention assets from both games. "The Fade" type of thing. Best way to explain it: I play Numenera, get to this "The Fade" area~do my stuff there, get back into the game. When I play Eternity, I get to this "The Fade" area and instantly "Oh ****! I've been here in Numenera!" and it gets suddenly (in my own opinion) so much more awesome on so many levels. One level of awesomeness would be to be able to leave something in this area and then be able to find it in the other game

Help required - we need your opinion
Osvir replied to Anton Levitskij's topic in Computer and Console
It seems to me, according to the Kickstarter page: A: You view People as problematic and random. How do you remove People from your Feed? *deep breathe* - Your Solution: Make them remove you because you don't have the balls to do it yourself.... *another deep breathe* gotta stay Zen. B: You have talent & skills, and this is the best you could think of to get it to use and earn some cash/get a job/merits~ whatever. C: You want money, and it's transparent that you are doing this for yourself wherein the successful Kickstarter projects (that I know of) are doing it for the fans in order to do it for themselves (Obsidian is helping the fans in order to help themselves). D: You want to make a game because it creates more revenue than an application. I'm going to be honest: Your Kickstarter doesn't appeal to me at all and honestly feel you should just throw it in the trash bin. The things I find interesting: A group of talented people. You seek employment through crowdfunding. Target audience seems to be people who like to use Facebook, disguised with the words "people who like to play games". You aren't without luck entirely though: I like to use Facebook. I agree with you that the Feed is pretty bad. It is random and problematic, but that is not my Friend's fault, that is the random chaotic Facebook Feed's fault. What about some sort of organizer? Something that gives me only Friend Feed, and something that only gives me World News Feed separately? Video Uploads goes into one Category, Photo Uploads into another one. Perhaps an Application that I can manage like a game, compare my "Lists" with others and in sorting my own lists I can help others sort their lists as well? A collective effort, in the form of an online browser game? Something that makes my Friends Information & Knowledge prosper, but at the same time I'm making my own prosper~ Anyways, I hope this was insightful, have a nice day -
I began playing FO:NV on my PS3 machine not too long ago (Now with a more mature & more understanding mindset than I had when Fallout 3 came out). I'm having a blast (Hardcore mode). This is the first Next Gen Fallout that I am playing with "devotion". There's really only one feature I am missing and nothing less, the ability to zoom out, top down, and scroll the screen like the old Fallout's. Not being camera-locked. Now, I mentioned I am playing on the PS3 and it is suffering from the Dragon Age: Origins syndrome (although, playing DA:O on PS3 made me finish DA:O a second time on my PC I enjoyed the heightened feeling of "action" playing DA:O on PS3): back to the syndrome, it is difficult to play a strategy game on any console (Top-down, control squads, do actions etc. etc.). There's a solution that might be "scary" but Whip-Select is one that would work brilliantly for a limited squad (4-6 characters): Stormrise is a great game that I picked up, and many of you might say "Stormrise pfft, that's the game that got tons of bad reviews and failed to be innovative" and personally I'd say that's your opinion, in my opinion it's a great strategy game. It's just missing the "top-down scroll the screen and observe the battle-field without being 'locked in view'". What am I trying to say about Fallout: New Vegas??? It would be awesome if you could get that top-down feeling again, without being camera-locked to the character (just like Stormrise), and being able to get that old school feeling. The same thing goes for Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim. I want to be removed from being "locked" in Camera. "I want to be free!" in my movement. But I'm stuck to the character. That's really the only thing that I miss in Fallout: New Vegas, other than that I think it's a great game. The very first impression I had of Fallout: New Vegas was "Wow this is a great game", but I got side-tracked and began my journey for completion. My fault, and it made my impression of the game go bad, I got bored with it because I got lost in my own aloof directive. If I had a quest in my Quest tab, I had to do it, if there was some dude I hadn't talked to, I had to talk to him. Doing all that quickly made me forget what the heck the Main Quest was all about (I did the same thing/mistake in Fallout 3). This made me dislike both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas more. My fault. Back to what I said first so you don't forget it: I love Fallout: New Vegas today, now that I've grown up a little bit. Still, they can't beat Fallout 1 & 2, and it isn't entirely about nostalgia, Fallout 1 & 2 has that simplicity going about them that makes them "that good". "Smoke on the Water" good. Of course, they were first as well. To be honest I'm with the group that likes Fallout above Fallout 2, for one I haven't finished Fallout 2, second because Fallout was first. Same thing with Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2. I enjoy Baldur's Gate more than the 2nd one. Why? Because Baldur's Gate was first. Final Fantasy? The very first one is the best one in my opinion. Why? There's a huge backstory to it, it was the game that saved Squaresoft from bankruptcy, it was a title that changed the entire company. It was the best Final Fantasy. It is simple, easy-going, not very heavy on the depth. It simply works. You create your party of 4, you venture out into the world to slay evil. That's that. Simplicity is King. "War is complex, Peace is easy". One thing that I mainly disliked about Fallout 3 was the number "3" after the title. If Fallout 4 ever comes out and is made by Obsidian then I ask only this: Ditch the number 4. Like "New Vegas", go with an awesome title like that. Fallout is Fallout, New Vegas is New Vegas. That's enough input/feedback/review from me Have a great wonderful day.

This might be it. Also, .Leif. is simply "Leif" (without the dots).

Wondrous Items in Project Eternity
Osvir replied to TRX850's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I like them ideas, but this caught my attention. Doesn't sound like a Cursed item at all, there's only benefits. A regular torch would do fine, and if you can throw torches or drop them, that's exactly what I'd be doing with my stealthy character and I'd get the same effect (hopefully). To make the Curse more interesting and more "Cursey", then I think it should be opposite, it only shines when there are enemies nearby and you can't drop it (unless "Remove Curse"). In a way it gets beneficial in a "Sting" kind of way, you know that there are enemies nearby when it lights up, but they'd also know where you are (Unless there's a wall between you or something). EDIT: Cursed Shackle of Devouring: An active equipment item. By locking one side to their wrist, the user bonds his/her soul with the item. Meant for close combat. As the user locks with their opponent in CCQ, they can activate the item by forcing the other end of the shackle onto the opponent and they will be locked in combat until one falls. Draining each other's souls, only one can survive. The survivor will gain "much" strength, as the item devour their foes. Mechanical aspects: It basically takes the soul of the opponent, so let's say you took down a Centaur with the shackle, then you could summon the Centaur in battle as a spectral ghost to fight for you for a brief moment that gets expended. Only one soul can be trapped. If there is no soul trapped the shackle will eat on the characters soul. If there is a soul trapped in the shackle, the user will get a slight statistical benefit, and the shackle will eat on the Centaur's soul until depleted.- 65 replies

Lephys, you can take my spot and I can stream as an observer (as I said in another post: Granted that everyone feels comfortable about that) Otherwise we do have two full 3v3 applicable teams. So let's see. Obsidian: GMT-8 Obsidian (Unless someone lives elsewhere?) Challengers: GMT-6 | GMT+1 || GMT+2 | GMT+13 | There's .Leif. as well but I don't know his timezone yet.

https://signup.leagueoflegends.com/en/signup/index When you sign up you need to check the "Region" for "North America". It should say something like the below. In my case: "Region: Europe Nordic & East (change)" Change should be a blue link, if you press that you get a list. Check North America and you're good to go. I couldn't find "melkathi" or "TheLazyOneNA" on the North American servers, which is why I'm bringing it up in case others are interested at a later time. Then again, it just struck me that Obsidian could very well have good enough computers & internet connection to play on the Europe West servers in case that would be better for everyone (Ping-wise).

That makes us 5 Team 1: 1. Osvir (MrWelcot) 2. .Leif. (Leif) 3. Oner (TheLazyOneNA) 4. melkathi (melkathi) 5. Shryke (BeardJesus) Timezones (I don't know .Leif.'s) GMT-8: ||||| GMT+1: || GMT+2: | GMT+13: | To put it simply (just an example, subject to change), 1PM for Obsidian would be 10PM for GMT+1, 11AM for GMT+2, 10AM for GMT+13. Military Clock (I think that's what my friends called it when I was in America): 13:00 GMT-8 22:00 GMT+1 23:00 GMT+2 10:00 GMT+13 Best day: Monday: Tuesday: Wednesday: Thursday: Friday: Saturday: || Sunday:

Great update, great video. Loving the Engagement mechanic Thoughts on AI: IF the encounter is intelligent enough would they place themselves in the Engagement circle (which seems to be an unfavorable position for them) or is there another way to gain favor above the Player? Can the AI Rogue throw a "snare" (or something to stun or impair the Fighter) at the Fighter, making it easier for the Rogue to simply skip past him/her and engage the Wizard? If you were the AI Rogue, would you jump straight into the engagement, hoping to get past the Player Fighter & then score a critical hit on the Wizard, or would you wait up by the doorway and try to sneak past the Fighter as he engages? Don't know if my point is coming across entirely, but would it be a wise choice for the AI Rogue to engage the Fighter in the doorway? If intelligent enough of course, a mindless zombie or a dumb Fighter might not take positioning into account and just charge head on, but the more sophisticated classes. Perhaps the AI Cipher would Charm/Control the Fighter to fight for him, putting the Player Wizard in a very bad position. How can the AI play against the Player and not into the Player's hand? Player: "Yes! I got him now in my positioning! If he engages I'll win" AI: "I think not" *ZAP* Player: "Oh sh...!"

Free to play, PS3. Will come for PS4 too. EDIT: It's like playing paintball, and probably the best FPS I've played. Most of this is in-game.

Sorry, I have been pre-occupied with stuff ( being one of them) starting to become part of some bigger things with it. Cool. For the voice thing, not necessarily, I mean it does help but I am bad with it. I am better in silence, when I can focus on the game. I've got attention on everyone's health, all map, all game (when I'm warmed up), who to shield, how to bait, dodge, push, interrupt etc. etc. Voice does add a distraction for me but I need to practice it. I don't mind it so I say "Sure, let's do teamchat thing", if you feel comfortable with it. We could do a 3v3, seeing as we are only 4 interested thus far. I'm thinking about streaming as well on my channel, granted everyone is okay with it and feel comfortable about that. Good night

Some ideas I believe could work in giving NPC's more depth to them and more varied depending on how you create your character: If I have high Strength, then the character should look like high Strength as well. Perhaps the statistics could in some ways be used to determine [soul] or [Personality] of characters and some characters triggers differently on different types of "Parameters". The actual [Attributes] into -> [Appearance] part is not difficult (Because having 18 Strength could, physically in code, affect the character appearance sliders), but [Attributes] + [Appearance] into [Personality] might be a tad bit more difficult and more time consuming. [Attributes] into [Appearance] = Easy (with customization options available ofc without adjusting the other) (([Attributes]+[Appearance] = [Personality]) = X-type#) = Difficult (X-type#/[Companion X-type#] = [Companion Reaction]) = Really difficult Conceptual scenarios: A, X-type2.1 Companion - Companion is a demon in disguise. - Sees frail character (X-type4.4). - Joins party gladly. - Attempts to devour Player during travels. - Player gets to fight, run away or diplomacy check. B, X-type2.1 Companion - Companion is a demon in disguise. - Sees your character who looks strong, determined, capable (X-type2.0) - Joins the party with the intent of getting stronger. - Is totally cool (recognizes the Player character more as an equal). Conclusion? [X-type2.0]+[X-type2.1], works well together. [X-type4.4]+[X-type2.1], needs more work between each other in-game and more fights might ensue or they might bond - Make [X-type2.1] into a [X-type2.3] and make the [X-type4.4] into a [X-type4.3] and story driven events during the game and they become friends (When you get to put out an [Attribute] point when leveling up, you'd also affect [Appearance] which would affect [Personality] too, which is where it gets complicated). [soul] = Written Personality(Dialogue/Story) X-type2.0 Strong, Determined - High Strength, Good Wisdom, Intelligence, Moderate Endurance, Great Charisma - The [soul]: A leader-type, militaristic. Disciplined. Has a goal forward. Can be intimidating. X-type2.1 - Mid Strength, Less Wisdom, More Intelligence, Moderate Endurance, Greater Charisma - The [soul]: Written Personality(Dialogue/Story)Evil and Sinister. Demon. Unkind, bad-mouth, teasing and nonchalant. Aloof. X-type4.4 - Low Strength, Moderate Wisdom, Highest Intelligence, Low Endurance, Good Charisma - The [soul]: Very intelligent, which is probably the most significant part here. Relative to the other statistics, it is intelligence that is pre-dominated. A scholar, a Wizard by all means, powerful. Being weaker in body, could actually be said that it strengthens the Magical power. (Repair, Science, Speech, Four-Eyes, Good-Natured + Hardcore). TC(Too Complicated);DR: Personality and more alive Companions, reaction and relationships (dynamic). I'm asking the question "How, mechanically?" and trying to answer it myself.

I will not be able to address all those other questions. There were many other versions of this concept thread. She evolved out of them and probably had some faun influences. Cool as for all of the rest of the questions, not really intended to be answered, just brainstorming inspiration, thoughts and ideas. Don't do any of it, do some of it, or just gain insight/inspiration from it that's up to you.- 114 replies

Wait wait wait, are you +1 hour ahead CET (GMT+2) or GMT+1? Anyways, My Ping: EUW: 40-50 NA: 200 It is manageable and it works fine for its intended purpose (Having fun). My account name might be good to give as well: Osvir = MrWelcot And .Leif. .Leif. = Leif EDIT: We'll play a game or 2 together as well just to get some strategy going. EDITEDIT: It'd be fair to say that Obsidian "should" make new accounts as well (So that they are on Level 1-5 or whatnot). Do they want to give out/reveal their level 30 accounts? Meh, that's up to them

@Oner: That is true. As for the ping, "Meh", sure it can be a little bit frustrating but in my opinion it isn't too bad. I've got some 40-50 ping on EUW so I suspect I'd have some 200-250 perhaps on NA (at worst). Team 1: 1. Osvir 2. .Leif. 3. Oner 4. melkathi (maybe?) 5. -Open Slot- @melkathi: What about just get a 5 man team and just go with whatever? Monday: Tuesday: Wednesday: Thursday: Friday: Saturday: | Sunday: As I won't be able to edit this post, I will simply copy+paste the list of participants and positions and update the thread rather than update this post. Looking forward to play with you

Update #43: Pretty and Technical
Osvir replied to The Guildmaster's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Wow, beautiful <3 I've read through this twice and looked at the art with a magnifying glass (slightly, I like the earthy hands and forearms, and the horns of course). Is it faun inspired? Great job Some brainstorm thoughts, from [Godlike] thoughts to far off [Character Appearance Growth] thoughts to [speech] thoughts. Yeah, brainstorm: * Can a non-Godlike character become 1/2 Godlike in-game through some Quest or 100% Godlike by the touch of a God in-game? Quest. * Would a Godlike get even more benefits from doing this Quest, or would it be excluded from its Quest tree? * Will certain races (Godlike or maybe Elf, Dwarf, Human) have specific Quests that only they can do? (A Human settlement provides lots of Quests for the Human, but nearly attacks the character if he is a Dwarf? Thus, the Dwarf can't Quest there) * I think it's a fact, I am unsure, but Godlike will be a race choice at character creation? Is there possibility that it could be a "in-game" Quest? * Does Godlike features grow in time? Basically, does the horns grow as you level up and progress the game? * Similarly, have to ask, does the beard grow on that Dwarf as you level up and progress the game? Some minor detail, facial structure (scarification and similar), a broken nose makes a broken nose which could affect [Charm] as well as [intimidation] in [speech] checks. In other words, Combat could mechanically give a disadvantage to [speech], making the Player who wants more of a non-combat approach also "look better" but also even "talk better" than the battle-hardened and scarred soldier. [Appeal] to the NPC's, and reflect less "fear" into the "Commoner". It wouldn't necessarily have to be anything visual, but in a Dialogue Tab there could be a text feedback message during a fight "You now have a broken nose" and it gets noted in a journal automatically (or with Journal Off options, you'd have to spot it yourself and note it yourself).- 114 replies

Maybe, maybe not. I'm sure we'll know later. What I do know, from peeking into one of the forums related to the Mars One company is that one of the Moderators (who I believe is linked to the Mars One company) is pretty much saying that "Yeah we'll sell this idea that anyone can do this but in reality it is 'Fat chance' bro. Just pay us already so we can send our qualified guys there". EDIT: But I can't help but feel and see that video (still only seen about 5 minutes xD) and feel that there is a genuine thought for progress here. Exploring another planet, expanding our knowledge as a race and colonizing another planet. It sounds crazy in so many ways. I believe in peace so very naively and this to me sounds like something great, and they are actively thinking about creating peace. That is what is the selling point for me, regardless if it is a hoax or not.

Haha! I just think this is an amazing project. Okay, yes, I should have explained much more what it is in OP but I just wanted to share it more or less. This is Mars One, a real project to colonize Mars by 2023. They are going to start application this year 2013 (from all over the world, like the Armageddon movie except anyone can apply. Anyone, you, me, Josh, Carl Sagan, anyone). Okay, nearly everyone, mental or physical handicap and that'd be a no-go (or if you have a medical condition). It just sounds very cool in my opinion, exploring our solar system for the win! I started watching this (I saw some 5 minutes before I had to go to sleep, going to watch the entire thing later today), and it gives a general idea of the goal: EDIT: This isn't a joke by the way, it's a real project idea. If it ever comes into fruition, that is another question, for now there's simply a concept of it.
