Obama and Cameron Converse about Terror & Cyber Security
http://www.c-span.org/video/?323842-1/news-conference-president-obama-british-prime-minister-david-cameron Pretty interesting in my opinion. It felt very open and honest (the speech was, I think, intentionally written to give that feeling to the viewers), felt like a conversation. (Very) Simplified summary, I highly recommend you watch the conference: On terror: More of it is going to boil up in Europe. Cameron talks as if a large scale attack is going to happen, unless.... Big Brother/Cyber Security can prevent it. Also, later this year: UK vs America: The Cyber Games, who'll win?

Going by foot over Europe, even in this day, you could possibly travel for days without meeting any settlements/villages/cities. You'd probably see cars and such due to the age we live in but, remove the cars and most modern transport and you get a fairly barren land with not many people on the road. In medieval times you could probably travel for weeks without meeting another human being, if you chose to travel (speculation/assumption). @rjshae: I hope it does! It looks great and I hope it becomes a success.

15/1/14 Stream Impressions and Feedback
It was awesome! I was watching in Full-Screen. Seeing everything, the areas, the characters, voices, it was exciting. I did remove my earphones and sometimes closed my eyes because spoilers and lots of exploration and adventuring I wanted to do myself first hand but... wow :D I want to rewatch it yet I don't want to. 1-hour showcase, that's about how long it'd take for me just to talk to everyone in one populated City area xD or explore it entirely differently too. I did frown to the first sentence containing "Fu", in the dungeon (a scroll/book/note... Fara... Curse?), but it sound good/acceptable for the NPC voice ex-Crucible Knight in the AH *shrug* I guess it sounds good, but didn't look good in the writing. Sound levels didn't feel right at all, though Voice Levels were often good in the context of the rest of the sound. I presume that more ambience will be added or is in process of being added (windy/mystical/watery in dungeon~ etc.). Crickets worked fine, and they were super loud in combination with that there was no sound in the dungeon (I think? I couldn't hear anything) and then transitioning, the whole thing that happened on the Stream (lol) was also an... experience xD Combat felt like a fuzzy fast clutter in the demonstration, as if it was done quickly with a super optimized party and to show as much content as possible within 1-hour. I will most likely play differently, splitting+positioning+scouting and preparing. Josh playing all the cards right, as he knows the system pretty well. I don't know, I didn't quite follow it all the time, but the Monk was awesome and stood out (part main character, part Monk fighting style+animations). It looked and felt a bit like how combat feels in the Beta too. Fast, hectic. I still wish the attack speed (arm-swing+creature bite/slash/hack etc.) had more frames or slowed down. But the Monk fighting style was awesome to see :D ... is "Hey Lady" potentially the 9th Companion+Forton 2.0? :D All of the areas are stunning, gorgeous, and I can't wait to reveal all that black fog! Lots of characters to talk to and engage in. The "Adventurer's Hall" (name's don't stick to me much yet) was an awesome looking place, probably my favorite. The undead place reminds me of NWN2, and I'm wondering whether it is predictable or not... (Is it one of the Deities... or is a Chanter or Chanter group ressurecting the dead?)... Gaaah! The game looks fantastic! I want it now! T-T looking forward to March 26th!

First impression: "What the hell is that!? Why is it in there? There it is again! What is that!? Odd!" (reads this thread) Well... that's... actually p. cool never seen it/known it before. I thought it was a bug xD

Haha! "Raise the volume", and Josh raised the volume, I raised the volume, and probably a lot of other people raised the volume. No sound still. Then Josh transisted into a new area. CRICKET

RPGCodex 2014 Games of the Year
NEO Scavenger <3 It can roll poorly on you, and you'll be dead in a day. Doesn't happen too often. But there is a psuedo-artificial difficulty. Their injury system, scripted events, C&C, and crafting is quite intelligent. When you get around to the time where you know what you're doing, each successive game is going to go better and better, regardless if you had a bad or good start. Even without shoes you can survive. All you need is a sleeping bag. It is a bit of a trial & error game, but if you want, you can read on its Wiki and get some meta knowledge, but honestly, I highly recommend playing blind. You learn a lot each time, and if you're using your immersive brains, you'll understand a lot quicker than I did too EDIT: It's also a bit of a "Reference Checking" type of game. Something happens in the game and you're probably going to go "!?!?!? wut?" and then google and check wiki what it was, and why, and how.

What are you playing now?
I just wish more games would go back to/have simple LAN capability, vs. having to be on an online server. Some games are definitely more fun with friends, but we don't all want to play random MP's or always be online, or have to create/rent a server, or whatever. Sigh. Being MP doesn't really make a game harder per se in a lot of these survival games...being PvP does. Unfortunately, PvP also means a bunch of chuckleheads who like to kill naked newbies for the lol's, which is really annoying and a main reason I don't like random-server MP. There's co-op, "LAN". Hotseat. I'm not 100% sure but... Hamachi or other Virtual LAN software might be a solution for you, if it works. I haven't looked into it myself (well, now I have). I disagree about PvP being what makes Project Zomboid harder in MP. Maybe in other games, but not what I have seen thus far (out of 150-ish hours of game time). It's just one element that makes it "harder" (I'd say.. "Intense"). Though, I mostly play on RP servers, and people are much more inclined to create some... interactions rather than just "Kill kill kill". There are PvP servers, there are PvE servers. There are servers that are Easy-Mode (Respawning Loot) and there are servers that are Hard-Mode (No respawning loot). The latter is more fun as it is more immersive/thematic. I also met someone who talked about competitive servers~ There's also private servers that you can apply for and such. Mostly though, Project Zomboid has a rather big map, so even if it is a full server (of 64 players) there's two large towns (plus 2 extra city mods) and you don't necessarily run into people all the time. And if you do run into people, it's not always that they are meanies. One important aspect I have learned is that, if you encounter anyone, at any time, just keep your distance. I've met 3 people out of like 20-25 people I've met in Project Zomboid that have been going after me (everyone else have been really helpful and fun to play with). One was named "Random Cannibal" and he was circling my house/fence for like ever. It was epic, and he was creepy, reaaaallly creepy, but it was amazing (and after his death, he had left creepy notes). The other one was the thief who took stuff from me who I caught red-handed, and he kept recreating his character. The third guy was just some random running around attacking people (I suppose, that's what he did against me), nothing special but I chugged an axe into him and ran away, bandaged my wounds, and later heard a scream in the distance (that's how you can know someone died). Later found his body too. It can be fairly easy to run away/get away from people who want to kill you too, as your cone of vision is only in front of you. That's how I've gotten bit or scratched by zombies several times. Like, I was fishing, me and this guy were talking (RP) and we were talking about how nice it was to be out of the city, no zombies etc. next second I hear the bite sound, "CRAP!" and there it was, behind us xD I didn't want to die with my character, but it was still an epic turn of events. Roleplay servers FTW! :D In summary: - There are PvE Servers - There are PvP Servers - There is LAN, Co-Op, Hotseat - There is RP Servers - There are Private Servers (Which you apply for) Loot Respawn servers are common, "No Loot" is uncommon. Pick your flavor.

What are you playing now?
In Singleplayer, yes. If you are patient, you're going to have an extremely easy time. BUT! They will add NPC's who will run around and mess with you and even help you. That's a factor that's going to make Singleplayer much better. I've also seen videos where a Player is being attacked by a massive horde of zombies (covering the entire screen), so I'm getting the feeling that if you survive for long enough, you'll get attacked regardless where you place yourself. His base was in the middle of the forest. How long did you survive? But... Multiplayer is where it's really at, at the moment. It's much harder to survive, and like many games, much more fun to play (because other players). The best server I managed to get on was a private server, where there was no loot respawns whatsoever. Public servers can be a bit "Meh", but it's still fun if you manage to find awesome people to play with (10 out of 10 times, each interaction has been great... well, save for one which was a bit... meh, the same guy was respawning over and over because I killed him, after he was stealing all my stuff). For several reasons: A) Mostly all the really good stuff is gone, making it much more of a challenge. B) Time has passed a lot, so you're entering into a post-apocalyptic world that has been going for quite some time, vine's growing on walls, weeds and bushes. More destruction and burnt down houses and general chaos. Playing in Multiplayer generates their own stories a la "Someone was here" or "Something happened here". Like, seeing someone's house flooded with zombies, walls taken down and general degeneration. C) Player interaction (if you're playing on a RP server). Betrayals, friendships, group scavenging, banter, intrigue and much more. I've had so many epic moments on RP servers with other people and also by myself. In single player it's like "Meh", because if you survive the impossible in Singleplayer, you don't really have anyone to share it with. Footnote: This thing isn't even finished and it is already amazing. The core-gameplay and world is really good. Mods are flourishing and they will only flourish more and more as time passes, and when the game is released it'll only get even more. The core-mechanics are easy to build on top of as well. Vehicles and NPC's is something the devs want to add in. The community is really nice and friendly, and so are the Developers. I don't know 100% what it is about it, but there is so much heart in it. For instance, in Fallout or Skyrim you have to mod it to become immersively survival-esque, and it still doesn't manage to even get close to Project Zomboid's system. EDIT: You can also now invite your friends/family to play local on one machine as well to get a co-op experience I get the feeling this game will be ported to consoles in the future, if it's not already on the table for the future after the PC release.

What are you playing now?
Project Zomboid. What is it? Probably the best survival game I've played. Though, if NEO Scavenger had been Multiplayer, it'd probably have taken this spot. I've got to say, after having played some great survival games (NEO Scavenger, Project Zomboid, The Forest, The Long Dark and... well... Dead State*), and then playing Darklands, I'm like "Where is my food meter? Morale meter? Crafting...???" and then I'm hit with the realization "Wait wait, this isn't Project Zomboid..... damn!". If Obsidian (Josh, really) ever makes a Darklands esque historical RPG, I do hope he looks into survival mechanics. Medieval tymes were hard to live in after all... hmmmmmmmmm... *goes to the Obsidian's next kickstarter thread* GAH! Imagine if Darklands+Project Zomboid had a child <3 <3 that'd be like, GotC right there (Game of the Century). * Dead State is all about long-term survival, which is cool, but the short-term/day-to-day survival elements is kind of "meh".

Ukraine Discussion
Hm... http://thegreateststorynevertold.tv/ Stuff I never knew about Adolf Hitler and what he did for Germany. I got to Part 7. Did some external fact checking and it didn't entirely add up (The documentary says that Poland, during the "Bloody Sunday", started a massacre of Germans, but Wikipedia says that Germans started attacking Polish military from within Poland, and they reacted with a massacre). Regardless, pretty good stuff thus far.

Of course Walsingham. Sometimes I just find it easier to exaggerate or polarize a point to be able to explain it. It's just... radical rethoric. EDIT: I value discussion, and to be able to have discussion one has to have an open mind and tackle the subject from multiple angles to get the most out of it. The truth is usually somewhere in the middle. So many people are "This is how it is because the box told me so and if you oppose that view in any way, then you are an idiot". Boooring.

I was searching for "False Flag", for the heck of it, to see another point of view, perspectives and so on and forth and I'm very skeptical about sensational mainstream media (because they can popularize whatever they want, for the benefit of only themselves, and they do fuel the confusion in doing so). I'm also very skeptical about any wannabe sensational conspiracy theorist, probably more skeptical about these people than the mainstream media to be honest. But... Veterans Today did post some pretty interesting things still. December 13th, 2014 http://www.veteranstoday.com/2014/12/13/historic-speech-in-damascus-sends-shockwaves-around-the-world/ January 8th, 2015 http://www.veteranstoday.com/2015/01/08/charlie-hebdo-viral/ Do I believe any of it? No. And yes. In the same way I believe that the attackers in France were radical Muslims, I also believe that the masked people seen in the first footages of the attack on Charlie Hebdo could've been anyone. I'm trying to be analytically objective, not conspiracy theorist. How can one hold 2 contradicting views at once? By being neutral and analytically objective.

Pitching/Who do I contact?
Ah, yes, that I know but I was wondering if there is, like with movies/theatres, someone you can pitch an idea too, like... publisher or investor. I.e. "Presenting a manuscript".

Priests - Thoughts and Issues
It seems, at first glance, to look complex. And powerful. Though, I get the idea and it's interesting. It did get me thinking... different VFX color? Concecrated Ground on a Magranite being red, fiery, and on a Skaenite more corroded, green. VFX doesn't do anything statistically though~ but could be a nice little differenting flavor or aesthetic~ EDIT: Ooops double-post, I thought I was in edit mode, routine press "Post". Hm, oh well.
-
Priests - Thoughts and Issues
There's also the method which I only briefly went through, which would give all Priests all spells, but at a different rate depending on Diety. Eothas Example (Expand the "Spoilers", bottom Prayer is "replaced" with one of the higher or lower level): First of all, why am I saying "Prayers" about the Priest Spells? I saw it on the Official Wikipedia in the description and it caught on, I think it sounds cooler as well. Second, what have I exactly done in this concept? I've switched around the Prayer gain/progression. Naturally, this would be applied to each Diety. This way, each Priest following a specific Diety would progress differently, but would gain all the Prayers still. This means a Eothas Priest could gain "Minor Intercession" at Prayer Level 5, whilst all the other Priest gains it at Prayer Level 6 (see?? "Prayer Level" rather than "Spell Level". Spell Level (Wizard), Chant or Phrase Level (Chanter), Psi-Level (Cipher), and Nature or Growth Level (Druid)?? :D :D *shrug* semantics )
-
Priests - Thoughts and Issues
What about categorizing all of the "Sword", "Shield" & "Crown" of the Faithful into the same Prayer Level? So, for instance, a Skeanite might get "Crown of the Faithful" and Eothas (Eothan? Eothasan? Eothasite?) might get "Shield of the Faithful", on the same level. But giving the spells different effects/statistics that fit with the Deity. Similarly with the "Prayer against ----" spells could also be categorized into 1 Prayer Level (Let's say, Level 3), and a Magranite might get "Prayer against Infirmary", and a Waelite gets "Prayer against Bewilderment".
-
Priests - Thoughts and Issues
It is convenient, but it also restricts/limits build variations. It is most likely easier to design like this as well, and the strain on the Player too! Having a Priest, Druid & Wizard in a party would be a chore to level up. Gaining all Spells at once is probably the simplest design solution, for both developer and Player alike, and solves most problems in a broad sense. About deity spells, well... as the wannabe designer I am, I can't help to take a peek at the Priest regardless (even if it is too late, this is just hobbyist~), and see if you can mix-match and narratively/thematically fit in "Deity Spells" using the already existant ones (which could later be a great foundation for future builds, spell mods and/or expansion). 1st level Spells 2nd level Spells 3rd level Spells 4th level Spells 5th Spell Level 6th Spell Level These are the various Deities, compare with the lists above. I'll include those that I think fits in most, and exclude some to spread out: (#) = Amount Eothas Renewal, Light, Community (Friendship?) - [1st Level] Blessing, Holy Meditation, Prayer against Fear, Restore Minor Stamina, Withdraw (5) - [2nd Level] Supress Affliction, Restore Light Stamina, Concecrated Ground, Prayer against Infirmary, Iconic Projection (5) - [3rd Level] Pillar of Faith, Restore Moderate Stamina, Prayer against Restraint, Circle of Protection (4) - [4th Level] Prayer against Bewilderment, Devotions for the Faithful, Restore Major Stamina, Shining Beacon (4) - [5th Level] Revive the Fallen, Restore Critical Stamina, Prayer against Imprisonment, Shields for the Faithful (4) - [6th Level] Crowns for the Faithful, Prayer against Treachery, Minor Intercession (3) Magran War, Fire, Strength, Bold/Witty - [1st Level] Armor of Faith, Blessing, Holy Meditation, Restore Minor Stamina, Withdraw (4) - [2nd Level] Suppress Affliction, Restore Light Stamina, Divine Mark, Holy Power (+1st Lvl Halt) (5) - [3rd Level] Warding Seal, Restore Moderate Stamina, Dire Blessing, Despondent Blows (+2nd Lvl Repulsing Seal) (5) - [4th Level] Triumph of the Crusaders, Devotions for the Faithful, Restore Major Stamina, Searing Seal (4) - [5th Level] Champion's Boon, Restore Critical Stamina, Pillar of Holy Fire, Shields for the Faithful (4) - [6th Level] Crowns for the Faithful, Cleansing Flame, Spark the Souls of the Righteous (+5th Lvl Revive the Fallen) (4) Berath Life, Death, Resolve - [1st Level] Barbs of Condemnation, Halt, Prayer against Fear, Restore Minor Stamina (4) - [2nd Level] Restore Light Stamina, Divine Mark, Prayer against Infirmity, Instill Doubt (4) - [3rd Level] Watchful Presence, Restore Moderate Stamina, Prayer against Restraint, Circle of Protection (4) - [4th Level] Prayer against Bewilderment, Baring Death's Door, Devotions for the Faithful, Restore Major Stamina (4) - [5th Level] Revive the Fallen, Restore Critical Stamina, Prayer against Imprisonment, Shields for the Faithful (4) - [6th Level] Crowns for the Faithful, Prayer against Treachery, Minor Intercession (3) Wael Dreams, Secrets, Mysteries, Revelations, (Illumination?) - [1st Level] Armor of Faith, Blessing, Holy Meditation, Restore Minor Stamina, Withdraw (5) - [2nd Level] Suppress Affliction, Restore Light Stamina, Consecrated Ground, Instill Doubt (4) - [3rd Level] Watchful Presence, Restore Moderate Stamina, Dire Blessing, Circle of Protection (4) - [4th Level] Prayer against Bewilderment, Devotions for the Faithful, Restore Major Stamina, Shining Beacon (4) - [5th Level] Revive the Fallen, Salvation of Time, Restore Critical Stamina, Shields for the Faithful (4) - [6th Level] Crowns for the Faithful, Prayer against Treachery, Minor Intercession (3) Skaen Hatred, Resentment, Violence, Rebellion - [1st Level] Barbs of Condemnation, Divine Terror, Withdraw (3) - [2nd Level] Suppress Affliction, Replusing Seal, Instill Doubt (+1st Lvl Restore Minor Stamina) (4) - [3rd Level] Watchful Presence, Warding Seal, Dire Blessing (+2nd Lvl Restore Light Stamina) (4) - [4th Level] Triumph of the Crusaders, Devotions for the Faithful, Searing Seal(+3rd Lvl Restore Moderate Stamina) (3) - [5th Level] Champion's Boon, Pillar of Holy Fire, Shields for the Faithful(+4th Lvl Restore Major Stamina) (4) - [6th Level] Crowns for the Faithful, Cleansing Flame, Spark the Souls of the Righteous (+5th Lvl Revive the Fallen) (4) // I made these on the go, I haven't reviewed them (I have 2 windows open side-by-side). 4, mostly, per level? Why? The list simply formed that way. Tried keeping it to each Deity's "theme", from my perspective. As I was tinkering with the Skaen list (which is the least fleshed out and, I admit, rushed) I started thinking on another aspect when giving all spells on every odd level (and reviewed & editted Magran). Does all spells have to be gained on the same level for every Deity? For instance, in my Skaen example above, I put out "Restore Minor Stamina" on 2nd Prayer Level, but it is a 1st Level Prayer? Yes! Because I was thinking, Skaenites don't seem to be too friendly, and I simply get the feeling they wouldn't prioritize healing others. In the same way I was thinking with Berath, they are Gatekeepers of Life & Death, and thus, why would they "Withdraw" right? I felt it fit into Berath's theme a la: "Life happens if it happens, and Death happens if it happens" Example: Eothas does not have the 2nd Level Prayer "Instill Doubt" and Berath doesn't have the 1st Level Spell "Withdraw" in the lists above, what if they could still gain them, but at a later level (like the Skaen or Magran in-list example), and/or through in-game merchants/temples/trainers? What if each Deity simply distributes Spells at different levels? I.E. Eothas gains "Instill Doubt" at Level 5, and Berath gains "Withdraw" on Level 3. Different teachings, schoolings, doctrine and Prayer priority's depending on Deity/Priesthood?

Pitching/Who do I contact?
I have a project that I've been working on for 10+ years, which is a bit of my dream game. And I've wanted to take a different route with it but, it never dawned on me that... who would I contact in the industry? Who would I pitch this project too? Who's attention should I be trying to gain? I know about Game Design Document (which is a wee bit too advanced for someone of my level), High Concepts (got a simple one) and I also got a prototype storyboard. However, I was thinking as I was working on it the other day that... what is the end of the tunnel? The goal is to present it to someone in the industry that could take it further... but who? This is why I made this thread. I've also thought about taking it to Kickstarter, but I'd need a team of modelers, animators, programmers and so on. Also, would I need to license my product before pitching it? Thanks for your time

If anyone should be riddiculed in drawings it is the more current and modern suicide bombers, the killers and murderers. These people are the modern fools. But... then again, as I have understood it, Mohammed was a war commander and leader, and committed just as horrendous acts? (murder/killing/violence/strict law) I remember there being depictions that I've seen of him, generally accepted by Muslims I think, of him chopping off heads of his enemies (which, as I understand it, is what inspires ISIL?). Killers should be riddiculed and shamed, in my opinion. So, that goes pretty much for the entirety of the Western world and their armies too. Throughout history, senseless killing. Israel, large parts of Africa, China, North Korea, Japan, Russia, Europe, America, South America, Middle-East. Blagh! Criminal & psychotic individuals and organizations everywhere! Bah... why is it so difficult to just, be friends? One world and all that? Doesn't matter where you were born, thanks to the Earth we're all breathing and have a nice and comfortable habitat. It could become such a great place! "Nu-hu! He said that!" "Bu-hu! But he started!" "-Uh-hu! I kill you!" "What-uh!? I bring army!" "FF! Me too!" "Let's fight!!!!"

@Gfted1: We should deconstruct the weapons of destruction, and re-invent their use into weapons of construction. Too lazy to google, but I know that a prototype "Seed Bomb" is being built (it looks like a bomb, but it has earth, and seed, and it is built out of a nourishing material so it all is used up for the purpose of re-creation)... when will we have 3D-Printing House Guns that you can print houses with? Just point and click the trigger. House! Or the founding of Capsule Corp. that would be amazing (Dragonball, the capsules are nano-devices, like pokeballs that you throw, and then *poof* the item, for say, a house). THAT is what we should be investing the economy into... pfft, guns.
